FAQ:
>How do I activate Windows?
HWID2 generates and registers a permanent legitimate license on MS's activation servers
github.com/massgravel/Microsoft-Activation-Scripts
Usage: paste this into Powershell, run.

Same link, select Ohook option
You can also use Office.com if your needs are very minimal
or try OnlyOffice/LibreOffice and set it to save in MSOffice file formats

If you're getting the EOL message on the windows updates tab and you're on the latest Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC version, it's a bug. People have been reporting it in several places now.
Chances are Microsoft doesn't give a shit though so no clue when this will get fixed, or even if it will get fixed at all.
Fuck Microsoft.
>>
>>106892351
The massgrave docs on TSforge says that the reason why this message pops up is because of the ESU not being gotten from the consumer branch by the commerical branch, which Windows Update itself doesn't show if it's working or not. Guess we'll see what happens when November 11th hits.
>>
So if I want to switch from W10 IoT Enterprise to W11 IoT Enterprise while keeping all the files, I just need to run the setup.exe from the ISO. Do I get to keep using my local account without creating the MS account?

Using a mounted ISO to in-place upgrade to the next LTSC is the official way to do it. Just tell to not install updates during the upgrade and you should be good. It'll say that you want to install IoT LTSC letting you keep all files.

Retard here. Will I regret upgrading to 11 if I have a legacy BIOS? I tried switching to UEFI but apparently I kinda fucked up the whole OS installation 8 years ago so my disk partitions are all over the place and I can't make the switch. You can't get the consumer ESU with a local account. Your Windows has to be linked to an online Microsoft account. Also, the consumer ESU is only 1 year
Activate the 3 year commercial ESU with MAS TSforge instead
If you still get the EOL message in Windows update, check your activation status with either MAS or the command in pic related
If your ESU is activated then you can ignore the message in Windows update, it's just a fuckup from Microsoft, you still get security updates

I used it pretty much since day 1 and while there were other problems, UI speed has never been an issue. I can't help but think this is coming from the same type of schizos who complained about 10 being "slow" compared to their beige box no-aero 7 install.
>>
>>106892792

>>
>>106892892
At that point you might as well just change over to Enterprise with MAS, re-activate and enable the ESU licenses. Also when it comes to MS accounts you should just be able to login for MS apps instead of system-wide.

Genuinely, how likely is Mr. Nutella gonna rape my boss's ass if Microsoft finds out I've installed W11 IoT (illegally) on some of the computers where I work? I've only done 30 computers so far but there's another branch opening next year with about 70 cubibcles that I would've installed W11 IoT on, but now I'm getting spooked. It's just so much easier than having to make a shitty microsoft account for every single damn computer. SoCal btw

The thread I asked this is now archived so I'll ask this here: for using Rufus and Windows 11 Nano together to upgrade from Windows 10, I've been told I need a USB stick. However, I also learned about pic related. I assume that's only for the USB drive where you plugged in the USB stick needed for the installation of Win 11 Nano?

This is on W10 IoT LTSC
>>
>>106893149
If you're installing from a boot USB then most likely no. IMO you should just in-place upgrade to 11 with an ISO from your current install and debloat it afterwards as you wish.
>>
>>106893006
Extremely likely. Don't do it. For one computer is whatever but 100? You are crazy.
AFAIK they're going to write a nice email to you to clarify how many computers you have the system installed on and how many licenses because LTSC is available through volumetric licensing. They are not going to care if the systems are activated or not but they will demand proof of having as many licenses as you have active computers. They sometimes do it for legitimate customers where the licenses don't add up by accident or when they're auditing.
For small businesses I think LTSC IoT goes for $200 or $300 a pop.
BTW you can do all of that legally. Talk to your boss, purchase the licenses and then you can use MS own tools to deploy Windows system preconfigured and not deal with any of the account shit. Why do you think it's so easy to bypass the account requirement in the first place? Because it's like that by design, all the bypasses are simple flags you set and is behaviour coded by MS itself. Sys admins don't manually go around clicking next on each computer. You don't even need to use IoT or LTSC versions. I don't remember which version was it but I remember we deployed regular Pro versions I think, definitely not the more expensive Enterprise, and the MS guy was like yeah you can do that but your licenses must all check out.
But 100 computers running illegal Windows is a fuckton. I've never dealt with that number. Depending on circumstances they might go legal route immediately.

Windows 10 IoT LTSC 2021 gets security updates until 2032
If you activate it with HWID (as you should), MAS will automatically switch it to IoT if it's not already, so no need to worry if you're installing a non-IoT LTSC ISO (if you need another language than English for example)
>>
>>106893205
Yeah, kinda + it's just me being a retard. The computers were already running a mixture of W10/W11 Pro before I converted them disceetly, because they're all refurbed optiplexes bought on amazon a long time ago. I'm just wondering if converting them back from IoT to Pro will require another license, cause I'm assuming the licenses for IoT will not be compatible for Pro.
>>
>>106893215
No they are not compatible. If you re-install Pro on them they won't be activated, unless your network uses a KMS server to keep everything activated and Pro is what it was originally given.
>>
>>106893215
Brother, just go to your boss and have him approve purchase of however many volume licenses your business needs, then proceed to install/activate based on those. Otherwise you're setting the company up for the kind of legal trouble where you just getting fired is actually a best-case outcome.

Honestly, you're fine for now. I did the same thing last year (IoT as well) with even more computers and it took me months before going back and thinking "wait, that's fucking stupid" and converting them back to Windows 11 Pro machines. Never got any email or lawsuit from Microsoft but I probably would have if I let them sit for too long. I'll tell you now though: stop being a fucking idiot and delete any IoT USBs you have immediately and throw Windows 11 Pro installations on them pronto. And don't download the fucking ISOs on your work computer. Go to work early and fix your fucking mistakes and convert all those IoT computers back to Pro. When you set up those new computers, let them connect to the internet to activate the licenses AND THEN use massgrave to install Windows 11; the license is really what Microsoft cares about when it comes to this.

>Do you think installing W11 Pro
Yes. Because LTSC Enterprise is for big boys and MSFT cares more. It's usually sold volummetrically unless you're in countries that allow reselling licenses.
But why are you doing this? If you do something illegal it's grounds for getting summarily fired even in countries with the strictest labour laws AND legal trouble with MSFT. You're subjecting yourself to unnecessary risk so your boss can save some money. If MSFT comes knocking it'll be your ass.
I assume you don't know how to deploy this stuff and don't use active directory or whatever so I'll give you a ghetto simple solution: use rufus to make the bootable USB(s). It allows you to make a local account and skip the entire intro. Use it to install Windows on all those PCs. Go to your boss and have him buy a W11 Pro license for each seat. And you're good. MSFT doesn't give a shit if they're activated "properly", they just want the licenses to add up.

Hi /fwt/ I switched to 11 IoT LTSC about a week ago and somehow I have an Activate Windows watermark now. Wasn't HWID meant to be persistent after version switches? Anyway is HWID still the best activation method or is there a new meta?
>>
>>106895805
You might've just done something to change your HWID itself so it turned off. Just run it again.
>>
>>106895805
>Wasn't HWID meant to be persistent after version switches?
No
HWID persists if you wipe your drives and install an edition you've activated before
If you change to an edition you've never activated before, you'll have to activate it with HWID

If I install w11 IoT LTSC then can I disable malware like AI, recall, and onedrive similar to win10 ltsc?

As a troglodite with very technical knowledge of computers, what are the most essential safety and privacy measures one should take if I update to W11? My computer is dying as it is, so a change is inevitable, and Linux is out of the question.

I'm not the sysadmin anon, but I am curious: if I were to run a business and get the Pro version of windows, but make it like IoT LTSC, is it possible? I know with NTLite that we can remove all the bloat in the iso, but I'm not sure how the group policy would work to get only security updates (no store apps magically appearing after an update) and to set it to only notify for updates but not download & install.

When it comes to basic privacy measures, you can use group policy to toggle diagnostic data off, available in Enterprise variants only, you can also disable not very useful stuff in Defender like could based protection and sample uploading.

if you want deeper approaches, you can use ShutUp10 or even more complex ones like WinUtil, although even if they have a friendly look, it's important to understand a bit what they actually do so you don't fiddle with stuff you shouldn't

not familiar with that method, but in theory it should be possible to receive the ESU updates if Windows Update works properly and nothing is blocking it. Also, if it's an Enterprise variant, sometimes those don't receive the messages

Also, you should consider switching to MAS for activation, it also has options to get the 3 years of ESU without an account

No, it is not the same.
You can not change regular editions to LTSC with this.
>>
>>106909899
there's IoT and there's IoT LTSC kek

you can go to regular IoT from MAS, but not to IoT LTSC

For that you need a different trick that's discussed in the Windows 10 EOL section of the massgrave page, so you can go to LTSC while keeping files.
>>

alright it's 2 separate channels. i see IoT is not available in different languages

>now try to boot old win10 installation using a M.2 -> USB adapter
>veracrypt password prompt succeeds
>windows logo and starts loading
>black screen -> PC reboots
So why exactly? Why can't it boot from an M.2 adapter via USB port? Is windows using drive/partition UUID's and somehow UUID has changed because it's now an USB drive?

Is W11 LTSC less pozzed than consumer edition?
>>
>>106917957
Of course it is. The whole reason why Enterprise/Education are recommended over Home/Pro is because they're the versions the easiest to reign in.

How is the privacy? Does it take a screenshot of your desktop every 10 seconds?
>>
>>106917982
No. Recall can only activate if your computer has an NPU in its CPU, which as of now is only in ARM64 PCs. And you can use either the Windows Features dialog or DISM to disable Recall at the source if you're paranoid.
>>
>>106916107
rather have that than laggy desktop. i have another pc with 10 ltsc and it is night and day. much snappier despite much shittier specs. also found it easier to customize/debloat than 11 pissing about changes i make, i probably lack knowledge about 11 but thats part of the reason im switching back. if 11 iot ltsc fixes the shitty desktop i could go there as well, but from what i gathered its just react being react. correct?
>>
>>106917999
Fair enough, though I haven't had any performance problems.. apart from the new context menu so I had to disable it.
>but from what i gathered its just react being react. correct?
Not much of the UI is actually written in react but C++ WinUI 2. I'm sure settings is and apparently the recommended section of the start menu is but unlike what /g/ will tell you its just a JS engine calling WinUI 2 APIs, not a whole web browser.
It would be nicer if they just released a Win64 or something that was just a slightly improved Win32 with better styling but I guess even their devs can't manage their own event loop and deal with adaptive sizing themselves anymore.

i have been using linux/mac for the last 6 years and everything i do is through the terminal
>neovim for text editing
>bash scripting for automating most things
>hurl for http collections
>native package management (including LSP's)
im going to need to start using windows for work. what's my experience going to be trying to keep this workflow similar in windows? should i just start preparing to use vstudio/vscode?
>>
>>106918584
You can set up Windows Subsystem For Linux if you want to have a native Linux layer over the top of your Windows install. You can also use package managers like Scoop to install terminal programs like you would on Linux.

Realtek drivers are shit and a bloat, I never use them at all and just keep default Windows drivers.

How to create a portable windows 10 usb stick installation on linux? I never use windows but now I have to.... I don't know anything about windows. I searched and seems like "windows to go" is something I need.
>>
>>106919470
Answering to myself: Well I guess I can always create a win 10 VM in QEMU/KVM and then pass my USB stick to it and use rufus to create a windows to go installation on the usb stick in the VM.
>>
>>106919509
you can add you usb drive as a sata disc in qemu/virt-manager and install windows normally.
windows since 8.0 will boot from usb out of the box, no need for rufus
>>
>>106919509
>>106919529
-- oh and, this was more of an fglt question, i like to browse both threads.

side note: you can boot windows older than 8.0 from usb, it just requires a few extra steps. i first did it using xp. you had to modify the system registry hive to add the usb mass storage driver into the early boot driver list for it to work, and it was a bit quirky, but it worked.
>>
>>106919529
Well I'm doing this because I need to access a raidxpert drive and I can't bother install it on linux because AMD really seems to obfuscate the whole process and there's no guarantee it'll work. So I figured I'll make a usb stick with windows which I can then install raidxpert on to access my old 2x ssd hardware raid0 partition.
Anyways I tried usb booting once already but it didn't work so I'm trying rufus now, I probably did something wrong earlier but whatever I have now rufus and my usb passthrough in qemu/virt-manager win 10 vm so I can write the stick with rufus.

Shitty if you have a 4000/5000 card.
I still use 560.94 with my 3080Ti because every new driver seems to be even worse than the last one, especially crippling performance of older cards.
If the 3080Ti dies I'm going to use my backup 2070S, fuck buying overpriced garbage GPUs and fuck new gaymes.

dism /online /get-featureinfo /featurename:recall

Command to disable it:

Anyone else having issues with search indexing recently? Keeps spiking my CPU randomly while trying to finish a backlog of ~2000 unindexed files. Am I able to turn off indexing without disabling the search function?

You can disable it, search will just work slower.
Better to just wait it out, it happens after updates usually.

What's the best way to backup up my C:\Users\anon folder to an external drive before nuking my current installation? I tried WSL with rsync but it fails with a bunch of files because of permission errors and illegal file names.

Can a kind anon post their protocol to debloat/de-telemtry their win10 ltsc install? So far I assume I first hwid register, then update 10 fully, then run whichever debloat script is best, then do gpu drivers. What does anon do? What script? Any minor details?

Anyone running 25H2 on unsupported hardware? I heard it might have slightly better performance/stability than 24H2, and 24H2 hasn't really given me problems (aside from feeling a little sluggish in some rare cases, but maybe it's because linux feels so fast on the desktop, which I also use). But Game and Software performance was good. So I'm guessing 25H2 will be more of the same or slightly better?

Is anyone else worried Microsoft might purposefully fuck up and slow W10 in the future security updates? I've seen so many posts already about the last update bricking their PC or suddenly using alot more ram than it should, starting to look foward towards InControl.

Then you might want to try https://github.com/pal1000/Realtek-UAD-generic
Alternatively get a driver from your motherboard/laptop vendor for your specific hardware or use Snappy Driver Installer Origin to get the correct driver.

This seems to work, I just need to get the HP audio control panel manually (the generic Realtek one doesn't work).

Take it with a grain of salt if you wish, but on twitter. Some small-time streamer even had most of their pc fried, and frankly with the reputation MS has I wouldn't consider them bogging down W10 until everyone switched a far-too fetched idea.

well, you won't believe this. the problem was that i named the account "local" and windows wouldn't accept that. however instead of telling me it simply showed a "something went wrong" error without further explanation. I spent a whole day trying to understand why this shit wouldn't install on my machine.

If you know what you are doing, then use this guide from Microsoft:
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/privacy/manage-connections-from-windows-operating-system-components-to-microsoft-services
Microsaar Edge is the only major bloat on Win 10 LTSC. You can purge it from your system using this:
https://github.com/AveYo/fox/blob/main/Edge_Removal.bat
