Windows and macOS has over 300 million LGBT devs and over 2 million trans devs, has official LGBT support, official LGBT websites, official LGBT phone numbers for mental support, has official LGBT merch, wallpapers etc. and list goes on. Linux only has 8 LGBT people in the whole world without any LGBT related things anywhere. I am trans and will never use facist nazi Linux ever. Fuck your Luke and fuck your Pewdiepie. I am also jobless so I don't mind tinkering with regedit, debloat and activation scripts, ESU, LTSC, group policy, task manager, powershell/cmd, fixing broken updates and I don't care about +30 thousand new CVEs and bugs every month. I only use Autocad and Photoshop so I have to have Windows 7 where those don't work because maybe I need them some day.

You could probably set something up with symlinks and shit, im too dumb for that. Personally the only programs so big i had to store in a different hard drive were movies or videogames. Which you can do on Linux.

For me it’s Adobe Creative Cloud. My employer pays for the license so I can use it for free on my own equipment.

I also cannot complete basic workflows like:
> Take a phone call
> Take a screenshot, cover up sensitive info and send it to someone as an SMS
> Unlock my laptop with a wireless keyboard fingerprint
> Run obscure software like Falcosoft MIDI Player to listen to MIDIs with an emulated Roland SC-88

Linux is nice for people on the spectrum to focus their attention on and get it “just right.” Linux might be the most autistic thing ever conceived now that I think about it.

>sound perfectly doable
I call them out because there is “sound” and then there is “are.” I have a solution in front of me that is already perfectly doable. I do not need to figure out what the solution would be in Linux.

A Linux user might say, “just have your phone next to you and pick it up. Why do you need your computer to do it?” The answer to them is “you’re right, you don’t,” but once you have it you expect it.

Since OP is asking for specific reasons why I won’t use Linux, my examples highlight Linux as an OS looking for a problem to solve within my jurisdiction. There really is no “true” OS to switch to. They all have their pros and cons. To me, understanding their various quirks is more productive than isolating myself to Linux and its distros exclusively.

To add to this there are a couple things Linux is great for:

> Getting your files out of a failing Windows Installation partition with nothing more than a Live Boot USB
> Running really old hardware like it’s close to new
> Avoiding corporate ads (OneDrive, Copilot, etc.)

I put Mint on a dying Toshiba P770 once and was surprised by Linux’s superior touchpad driver. It was better than the OEM driver.

you mount different partitions (or even drives) where you want them. Theres fstab flags for ordering mount order
First time you do that you probably have to chown ownership to yourself but never after that

Its like mounting the D drive in a folder in C so its a confusing thing coming from windows but hell I have an entire drive dedicated to steam games mounted in my home folder which itself is a different partition and its way more flexible when you get a grip on it

I'm on Linux at least 95% of the time but what's stopping me from nuking my Windows LTSC partition is my pragmatism - some shit either takes too much effort to make work on Linux, some shit straight up doesn't work. I know I can spend hours trying to get things to work and that I may or may not succeed, but I also know I can just restart, boot into Windows for that one thing I know will just work.

That video games are controlled by Valve Corporation under Proton and they refuse to release the library for having open source Proton for others to create. People stop calling it open source if you can’t run Proton without Steam Client. No, Wine and other software aren’t good enough to use if I still have to use Steam to download the games.

Can’t use it without Steam Client as it states in the readme file. Valve Corporation refuses to release the library files that contains Proton calibrations. Does not support new features people have been asking like Nvida ray tracing. Unnecessary ram usage because of Steam Client. Force to make an account to use Proton.

It’s not open source.
>>
>>106897087
yeah its not intuitive to windows users so I get it, but it really opens up when you can seamlessly just have a bunch of drives in places without having to put a bunch of links or directing programs to like the D drive

Like steam isnt even aware I have a different drive, none of my shit cares my home folder is its own partition. It knows what paths are at stuff and gives 0 shit how its mounted
You set it up and you just have more space, no working around it like constantly telling programs to save to D instead of C

or dont and just mount new drives in /mnt and you get the same windows workflow

The fact that linux uses one dependency for all packages, meaning if one maintainer decides not to give a shit, a lot of software will stop working. I want a distro like Arch but with multiple dependencies so when a software needs it it can use it. This is backwards compatibility and no Linux distro has it, which is just silly. For me its in my home folder but its arbitrary. If its like doom or w/e that you can actually get off a package manager it’ll go into the linux equivalent of program files but its kinda rare since most games arent open source. The standard is to dump those kinda programs in /opt but its your choice

Like the big thing is how little linux gives a shit about devices on a user level, it just knows paths and files, there is 0 fucking with drive letters or fixing installs if you move shit and some registry entry has an aneurism, or a your links are broken now. No I don't care if Krita has a stabilizer we use it for its scripting abilities and the fact it can apply stabilizing to -any- program; not just constrained within a singular art program.

The fact the system design was deprecated before the implementation even began.
All the complaints the Unix authors had with Unix itself resonate with me.
It's a great first attempt at a general purpose operating system in the 70s but was already superseded by the 90s when Linux began. It's now 2025 and I have to conform to these standards when trying to develop the system. When you consider alternatives it just feels like an incredible waste of time and effort to target POSIX, let alone use Linux.

Even if this were true (It's not), who the fuck cares?
Valve's incentives are aligned with yours. They want you to be able to play games on Linux. They built a hardware platform that completely relies on that technology to function, and be economically viable.
And are you really arguing about this in a fucking thread about "why not Linux" of all places?
What sort of retarded reasoning is that
> I don't like that Valve's project that has made it so nearly all games work on Linux doesn't perfectly fit my contrived model of what open source ought to be. So instead I'll keep taking it up the ass from Microsoft and use Windows.

>what SPECIFICALLY is keeping you from switching to linux.
every single person i have ever seen use linux or advertise linus uses it in ways i dont or dont care about or just makes a cool desktop to look at
another reason is its always "if you do xyz it works just like windows" or "ok well sure YOUR favorite program doesnt work but there is a similar one :)"
well im already using windows so, like a vegan advertising "impossible beef" its "just like real beef" ok well i can just eat beef tho?

so its like well, windows isnt advertised to me, its just the default and obviously everything that is on pc works on windows, there are no questions and the things i want to use it for it works perfectly without thinking about anything
and there is no windows ++ there is just windows, everyone is on the same platform

also there is a huge "well linux xyz is SOOOO light weight!" ok well im not using a thinkpad from 2006 so "performance" is irrelevant to me.
that could have been an argument in well 2006 but it just isnt now.

if windows ever goes subscription only
like its literally impossible to use windows at all without paying $15 a month and you cant go to an earlier windows because Microsoft forces all developers to remove support for earlier OS then i would probably move to linux
but there is also i chance i just sell all my pc/android stuff and go full mac/ios.
im sure faggots here will screech for 500 hours about how its an even worse ecosystem but compared to the yearly bullshit i deal with with pc/android it seems more conducive to a simpler more relaxed life.
but mac is even less of a fully fledged gaming platform than linux was a decade ago.
so it would have to be console + mac and THAT would be cancer.

>No it’s not true that the only library in Proton is lockdown to a Corporation like Valve.
There literally is no option to download the library. Stop declaring things that aren’t true.

If they wanted people to play on Linux they should’ve promoted native Linux apps and actually supported Linux OS. Not a few or exclusive OS like SteamOS that just track your activity.

It’s not their hardware, the Steam Deck is a piece of junk from China with build in AMD, doesn’t support Nvida, no intel and no Snapdragon. A laptop HP can run better Linux then the Steam Deck, if something like HP can do better than Steam Deck is a disaster.

They are lying about open source. Proton library (not open source). SteamOS (not open source). Steam from Chromium open source (not open source).

Wake up steamie.

For personal use? Nothing. I'm already a big fan of FOSS programs like LibreOffice, Octave, and KiCAD. Arduino IDE and ST-Link run on Linux just fine.
For school? Probably just Microsoft 365 (formerly Office), but then again, Google Docs can do most of the work Microsoft Office can. Some of my instructors have given me permission to use FreeCAD instead of Siemens NX/Autodesk Inventor, so there's that.
For work? Practically everything at work runs on Mac OS X, so almost nothing. Occasionally we got a few devices here and there that interface with a program that need a computer that runs Windows, but we already got a special computer just for that.

I've been working over the last year on persuading my boss to adopt Linux, but he's adamant in his belief that Mac OS X just works and that anything else, even Windows, is "too complicated" to work with.

>I don’t care about corporate lying to my face for profit
They not only lied about open source but by continuing to support Valve Corporation, you also help them do illegal business. They committed fraud on Australia customers for not offering refunds. They lied to German government about ownership. They are liable for stealing patent from small businesses in the USA. Lied about adult games when credit cards demanded the removal.

This is the company you’re referring to. This is the corporate business you are supporting.

Krita is shit and basically the GIMP equivalent of art programs. Firealpaca is too basic. CSP just werks for 99% of people who actually want to draw in any meaningful capacity, and the fact that there's no native Linux distribution of it is frankly retarded. But then again, maybe the devs just don't give a shit about Linux just like how Adobe couldn't care less about it.
