PSA bump: it's simple and easy to filter spammer articles from any groups you're viewing, pretty ample potential for rejuvenating any number of ghost-town groups with normal conversation. Can't help suspecting there's going to be much the same kinds of shilly and botty-posting *eventually*, but relative permanency and the bar for entry will mean less &c regardless.Good feel and relative permanency anyhow, necroposting feels like a standard so far

>>106902330Didn't follow the discord side of that but so much, no, otherwise I'm familiar enough with a the background context of social engineering with relatively willing participants: I didn't have to lurk the threads involved to get some sideways exposure.I've practiced specific lack of interest for most internet drama, because it doesn't help anybody live in the world outside of the internet. I live outside of the internet, and I use the internet. If you think it's important that I understand, help me understand in a way that doesn't require me to gain your specific flavor of bias about it (and it's OK to be biased, you've got a right to that as much as anybody). Here, these posts are ephemeral and will disappear gently into external archives. There, posts are maybe slightly less ephemeral, but it's all the same internet.
>>106902405Basically it was discord tranny groups operating on /r9k/, trying to brainwash vulnerable incels into self castration, physical or chemical.

So I discovered Chivanet does not allow posting. I was wondering why the fuck nobody was replying to me.I decided to switch over to eternal-september and it works fine. As an aside, watch out for using eternal-september in Thunderbird because it refuses to login and you get stuck with just the eternal september groups and not the wider usenet (which you can only access with an account while logged in).Fucking Thunderbird's newsgroup reader has so many problems. Pan seems superior with a tighter experience, though a bit spartan. At least I can FORCE IT TO USE A FUCKING LOGIN CREDENTIAL.

Oldfag cosplay.
If you think about it usenet in it's heyday was something of a "high trust" environment. This is why it failed. Even before the famous incidents, "eternal september" etc it had incidents of spam, trolling, and abuse. Likewise the environment of 4chan is like the bathroom wall of a dive bar. That's about as low trust as you can get. The staff are too lazy to remove things from the wall unless they are truly shocking or terrible. These two versions of internet community are incompatible with each other. You're asking a bunch of retards with no respect for each other to drop their anonymity and share a space with even less moderation than this one. You are framing this as a good idea. Lmao. People cry about censorship etc on the internet all the time but when it comes to the point that all that's left of what was once a community is ruins and nobody wants to go back places like this still remain.

You can't help yourself.

>>106901798Obviously some terminal client for maximum hackermans feel
>>106902100I believe this is intended to get ahead of the shitfit UK is pulling where they are going to attempt to block 4Chan. A cascade of events involving "internet ID" in the name of "think of the children" is anticipated. It is a supplement to and by no means a replacement of this board. It's not an image board and it's not even the same protocol. Which is the point. Because it is an open protocol it is what you make it. Even if it were populated by galli of Cybele they don't own it. Nobody does. Or everybody does.
>>106907083It's something that should not be underestimated. It'll turn into a push to block free speech and to funnel all conversation in less and less places allowing for an easier control of everything through AI.We already have a web that is 99% concentrated in a single place. There's a push to have the same for chat too.Soon they'll get at telegram, teleguard, signal, the few last forums, irc...And last will be freenet

>>106907900Sure but you can see some of his points
>>106907900To be honest, it's just usenet. The hurdle to get through already removes 95% of normistan, and the rest of the userbase is made up of people who know how to make a fake email.Hell, half the users of the group have a PGP key, so you can assume that they're more interested in privacy than most indian shitposters on /g/.
>>106908358usenet faded out of use for a reason, reasons. This is just discord lite attempt to control the narrative. You cant trust anything and anyone at the helm that have not shown their backbones and have been timetested
>>106908415>You cant trust anything and anyone at the helm that have not shown their backbones and have been timetestedI agree with you, and I would say that this is why usenet is different from Discord.Usenet is still here. It's just an open protocol. Discord is a private data collection company. Both are comparable, but that's like comparing the sun to the moon. Entirely different ballparks. At the end of the day, whether you decide to chill with the group or not is your prerogative. I simply see no harm in it.
