photos of them never do them justice. if you could see what they look like in a photo/video of them on an lcd, then it means an lcd can do what a crt can and there'd be no arguments needed in the first place

The problem here is integer aspect ratio correction which can be technically nonviable for many resolutions (a 640x350 vga image is going to take at least a 22400x16800 display just for that alone) and the extra size required to simulate the leaking of the light emitted by the phosphors and also the lack of proper blanking which makes shit either blurry or actually darker if you try to simulate it. Too many things, and that assuming top of the line consumer monitors in 2025.

I love this varying width scan-line effect of Trinitrons. The brighter the pixel is the wider the scan-line becomes, which happens to interact with eg anti-aliased text so that it creates smoother curves than possible in the input picture itself; literally analog super resolution.
Picrel, eg the top of the letter P demonstrates this effect very clearly. A very objectively picture-improving "artifact" that only happens with CRTs.
>>
>>106919290
this isn't a trinitron-specific effect. it happens with any crt. like see >>106918800. that's a video of a common slot mask crt tv. the beam power affecting the width of the line is a property of crts in general, not what kind of colour mask it uses
>>
>>106919664
Tue but it's the most visible and clear on AGs since they have no vertical phosphor segmentation.
With dot and slot masks the texture of the mask dominates in the picture...
>>
>>106919720
sure, it's more pronounced on trinitrons (or equivalents like diamondtrons made after the patent expired), as they have cleaner lines.

it's a bummer most people don't seem to care about motion performance, like it's not something i see bought up outside of blurbusters... or /g/ crt threads.
i could understand it from people who've never seen a crt before and just can't imagine non-blurry motion, but crt>lcd didn't happen overnight. it doesn't make sense. people can't be that blind, can they?

ps. what monitor are you talking about? do they make 240Hz+ 4K oled monitors? i've only personally tried crt-royale on a 4k oled monitor at 60hz (before the beam simulator shader was made), and it looked great for stills. didn't do anything for motion of course, but it did look nice

But it's nice to see there's development.
>>
>>106920324
LOL
Every pro rhythm gamer and smash player moved to lcd/led monitors years ago. Face it, At a certain point refresh rate matters more than motion clarity.
>>
>>106920606
yea absolutely, i'm by no means against something replacing crt's, but they have to be at least as good as crts first.
i'm not oblivious to lcd's advantages of course, they're lighter, cheaper to make, larger screens, lower power, sharper, perfect geometry, etc. but this was all at the expense of image quality (except sharpness i suppose), which is a big downside considering we're talking about monitors, where image quality is or should be the first priority

>>106920657
for specific tasks perhaps, but responsiveness and motion performance are two completely different things
>>
https://www.datagubbe.se/crt2/
>>
>>106920694
This is obvious and well known information to any CRTard.
>>
>>106920688
And I'm telling you on even the worst case games motion clarity is already good enough to make the low refresh rate of all crts the weakest factor.
There simply isn't a game where crts are better.
>>
>>106920758
>There simply isn't a game where crts are better.
you seem to be coming from a position of "high level play", and sure, high refresh rate is more important than most other metrics for this use-case. but i don't care about such high level/professional play.
a 480Hz tn lcd being better for a counter-strike player doesn't really make me want to get one, since it won't make any of my games look better
>>
>>106920827
Yes, but then my secondary point. Modern games since UE4 and even more so UE5 have so much built in motion blur smearing cross many multiple frames that it's noticeably bad without any hi speed equipment
>>
Fuck... Now I want to buy a CRT again.
>>
>>106920859
i don't play many newer games.
i'll be clear in that i've never said a crt monitor is "better for gaming" as a blanket statement, there's certainly different kinds of games and goals that benefit more from one or another type of display.
for older games, especially ones locked to 60Hz and lower resolutions, i don't think there's a question that crts are better for those, but for modern games it depends. perhaps you just wanted to call attention to that.
>>
>>106918891
no true scotsman only applies in morally ambiguous cases, reproducing cathode ray tube projection on a digital display is mechanico-objectively impossible
>>
Old games suck, new games are way better and I'm not just talking about the graphics
t. gen z that played old games
>>
>>106920975
"digital display" is ambiguous. displays are by definition an analog output device. it's like saying "digital speaker", the end result is analog information.
there's nothing stopping someone from adding digital inputs to a crt (there even do exist crt hdtv's with hdmi input)
i can only presume you mean displays with discrete pixels, but even then there was the unreleased SED, which used crt-like technology but with fixed pixels, is that "digital"?

You must be legally blind if you don't see the difference between SDR and HDR, or you're legally retarded and you think you can just turn on HDR, boot any game or movie, and it will instantly work. Actually just retarded, even the legally blind can still notice something as obvious as the huge spike in peak brightness.

You need to enable HDR in your OS, then boot up a game that supports it, then enable it in that game (or use autoHDR, or RTXHDR, but considering you're too retarded to use normal HDR, I'd avoid that). Go play something like Path of Exile 2 with HDR and cast any lightning spell and tell me HDR doesn't make a difference.

>>
>>106921793
Color, but the easier to see is just brightness. Something like a lightning bolt in a game will be multiple times brighter (OLEDs generally have 1000nits on small areas) than in SDR.

There is simply no way to not notice, the effect is strong enough to make a very noticeable difference even just looking around your room instead of at your screen because it will light things up 5x what SDR does.
