I just installed Windows 11 on a fresh desktop. What are the ESSENTIAL applications/softwares to have? No smart ass answers like Linux or anything, thanks.

Windows is a launcher for games which pretty much don’t use Windows except for maybe DirectX.
Nothing more.
If you play games, buy a console and stop cheating. It works well.
If you’re doing real work, use something else.

VSCode / Visual Studio (if you develop C++)

VLC
WizTree - file usage

Optional features: Windows Sandboxing is a useful feature you can turn on to test programs quickly, also Hyper-V if you want a built in VM feature.

They used to pay EA and Activision and tried to pay Blizzard millions of dollars per year to make games not work on mac, and Linux. So you can guarantee they're paying to have posts here.
>>
>>106933202
I get $7,000 per post when I push Windows.

>>
>>106932986
Nothing.
Anyone who gives you an essential list beyond "GPU Drivers" is a bug faggot, because everyone's essential is different. For me it's VSCODE, but for someone else it might be different.
>>
>>106932986
Linux.

>>106932999
FPBP.

But more seriously: It REALLY depends on your usecase (memeguy.png here). There isn't anything "essential" beyond maybe GPOedit (you'll need a little legwork on Home editions) to stop MS's bullshit (and pray they honor GPO's) of installing shit you don't need on your system from updates.

And honestly, if you're going to fight Windows and it's bullshit as a SysAdmin, you're just better off installing Linux at that point and forgetting all the headache and literal mess the Jeets at MS make.

From that pic you only need Word, Powerpoint and Excel. The rest is bloat.
Check /fwt/ for more info.
Also, use K-Lite Codec Pack instead of VLC.

Not like the windows ecosystem hasn't been getting increasingly more hostile for decades. Free open source programs have been in development for a long time. They're just getting more attention now that the big evil mega corps have adopted subscription models with unoptimized ai bloat that scraps your data for profit.

>>106934013

What the fuck are you talking about? Practically all businesses use Windows. It's main advantage above all else is that you will never find Software that doesn't run on it.

You are not a business. Businesses use it because they are given a deal by microsoft. You are just a random nobody. It's your own computer, it's not an enterprise solution, it's a shitbox sitting in your room next to your dildo. Install Gentoo faggot.

>If you’re doing real work, use something else.
Almost all non-IT related, professional software is Windows or Mac+Windows only.
Blue Iris is Windows only.
Avid Media Composer is Mac/Windows only.
Photoshop is Mac/Windows only.
Most OEM automotive scan tools are Windows only.
Most firmware updaters are Windows only.
I bet most medical equipment runs on Windows.
I bet most CNC/machine shop equipment runs on Windows.
ATMs run on Windows.
Airplanes run on Windows.

TLDR only some IT admins make money by using Linux. Everyone else makes money using Windows or possibly Mac.

Forgot, most call center workstations have Windows installed. Funnily, when my gf worked from home, they have her a linux PC that was configured to remote-in to a Windows environment

ultimate trvthnvke. all the highly specialized software that you actually need for work is on windows. linux only has neovim with gay little color schemes and a shitty tui debugger from 1986 in terms of "professional" software.

Bunch of development shit like less known language tooling doesn't run easily on Windows. I can't overstate how shitty it is that there's no single OS that can handle it all without resorting to glorified VMs, translation layers or emulators.
>>
>>106932986
You sound like a precious, whinging faggot and if you don't remember what "essential" software you need you should probably go fucking kys.

But for the benefit of llurkers: I installed Winblows 11 on desktop and got a new laptop with same on it. Neither allow me to install Office 21 with my purchased key.

Fuck them, installed LibreOffice and i don't notice the difference.
Calc is a little sluggish compared to Excel but it's not omg i need to spend 10 bux a month sluggish, and i'm running sheets with thousands of lines in them quite often.

Posted too quickly and deleted half of my reply.
Only thing I consider critical is MS office or some standalone office app. Mostly a hangover from when cloud based office tools didn't exist.
But the Internet is fragile and I'd like to not be reliant on it for something like that.
So office, libre office, or whatever the oss equivilent.
