What a bullshit video. How the fuck does that big hot air nozzle not make all the surrounding caps and resistors not come loose? Then at the end, there's something odd going on when that big blob of excess solder is removed.
>>
Just a cheap 60W iron I can change tips on.
I need to get a hot air station soon.

>>106938214
Low airflow.
>Then at the end, there's something odd going on when that big blob of excess solder is removed.
There's a cut.
>>
>>106938244
I get the low airflow thing, but still, the board isn't on a preheater. I guess I suck at hot air work.
>>
Miniware TS80p, a cheap chink Pro'sKit desoldering station and some of the cheapest magnifying glasses and lenses that AliExpress has to offer. 120watt equivalent LED bulb on an office desk lamp stand. Lead-free solder from a local component retailer.
I mostly do repairs of through-hole components like DIP chips, capacitors, game controller analog sticks and such. Every now and then make or service a cable.
Has served me well so far for everything I've needed. Getting into SMD soldering would be super useful but my hands aren't good enough for that kinda shit.
>>
>>106938214
looks ai to me
>>
>>106938214
nah, it looks normal to me. the blob is the excess solder from the under thermal pad, it emerges when the chip is pushed down. Also you can easily hot air solder without disturbing the other components if you know what you are doing. (correct air pressure setting and nozzle)
I solder professionally.

a Yihua 995d+
have several kinds of solder, but my favorite is SnAg, it's lead-free but has same tensile strength as leaded. for flux I usually use traditional solid resin
>>
For at home hobby stuff, I have use a Hakko FX-888D and a Quick 861DW
>>
>>106938189
$20 chinkshit Harbor Freight soldering iron, a tube of leadless solder, and some flux. For someone that just replaces mouse parts it just works.
>>
>>106938189
if I was doing the soldering in that picrel, all those tiny passives would be stripped away and combined in a single blob of solder.
>>
>>106938189

do you REALLY need to cram all that shit to solder a chip?
>>
>>106938368
Though despite what I said. it is a much better idea to surround the area with Kapton tape. its more of just a flex really.
>>
>>106938430
I think he could maybe use a bit less flux, but other than that, yeah.

got that japanese desolder gun, best thing ever.

Low temp solder paste I'm guessing (down to 138°C)
>>
>>106938189
What was the point of adding new solder, removing it, the adding new solder again?
What was holding that tiny solder wick in place?
Why use paste instead of normal solder?
>>
>>106938189
this video made me laugh I was expecting it to keep going and him to start piling on more and more bullshit.

second hand Hakko 936 I picked up back in 2009, and then the little tidbits like desoldering pump, desoldering wick, and so forth. No cup thingie with wiring that it supposed to clean the solder tip, I read that crap will slowly kill your solder tip when it can last many years.

A stupid habit in the past was simply scraping superficial oxidation off my most used tip. Retarded. That eventually ruined. My Just Works Perfectly solution since has been to put a bit of paste on the iron tip while hot and immediately add solder and then quickly scrub off with the damp cleaning sponge that I always use. I haven't bought a new tip in years beyond what I picked up years ago. My iron remains in great shape, but the internal circuitry of the main box needs a checkup to see if anything is starting to drift too out of spec. I picked up a Hakko FX888 not long ago as a backup unit, plus it can help me service my 936. I also though of trying out Dual-Wielding irons for certain kinds of SMD parts, but have yet to get around to experimenting.

I definitely want to pick up a hot air tool now as that is what I am missing for QFN chips and the like that my Hakko units will be useless for.

>>106938189
I'm seeing solder paste these days, so what's the use case? No, seriously. Normal solder works perfectly already, so wtf?

I've been using a cheap Yihua soldering iron and hot air station for a few years now, and I do not have any major complaints. I should probably get myself a stronger iron though. I sometimes struggle to heat big ground planes.

Where are you getting it from? SnAgCu and SnCu are easy to find, but I don't think I've ever seen SnAg. Also, why the hell is it so expensive?
