The small "Unifying Receiver" that came with your mouse/keyboard should be able to run both of them.

You need to install a piece of software to set this up though.
Previously Logitech used "Unifying Software", but it seems like they've discontinued it.
Now they are suggesting you use "Logitech Options+" instead.

I have done exactly what you're trying to do with Unifying Software many times, but you can try the Options+ yourself if you want to have a supported option instead.

Yes, that is the right one.

You should make sure that your products do support the Unifying protocol though.
Underneath your mouse and your keyboard there will be a logo like the one in your picrel.
If it has a "lightning" logo instead (my picrel), your need to get a "Logitech Bolt" receiver instead.
Alternatively, if there's a Bluetooth logo, you can connect it directly via that, without any dongle at all.

You can also check this list, if you can't see any logos at all.

Reposting from last thread:
I want yt-dlp to watch youtube on mpv with subtitles, preferably subtitles made by the author of the video and, if that fails or there are no subtitles, then and only then, it downloads auto generated subtitles, but only the english ones, not translated ones to other languages. The args I'm using are:
--embed-subs
--write-subs
--write-auto-subs
--sub-langs "en.*"
--extractor-args "youtube:skip=translated_subs"
And it doesn't work. It keeps fetching hundreds of translated subs and I end up with a list of 157 subtitles, most of which are null but that I have to scroll through to find the proper ones. How do I fix that. I don't want to see subtitles for anything that isn't english, I don't want them on the list.
Another annoyance is that with those auto-generated subtitles, mpv by default shows subtitles on one line, then the second line, and then instead of removing both lines and starting again from the top it will replace the first line with the new one while leaving the second line as is. I'd like it to behave like normal subtitles on anything else, it shows both lines, then replaces both lines of text with the next ones at once. How do I do that?

It depends on the drive because they store enough parity to recover single bit flips. Realistically you should be validating any backup on a yearly basis minimum.

>Q: I have a feeling my roommate/landlord has started limiting the bandwidth to devices that aren't his, and he swears up and down he isn't. How do I prove it without having direct access to the modem interface?
You don't. Most likely other tenants are running their connection maxed out and you're just getting QoS'd down to match. You could try Cloudflare Warp or whatever they're calling it to see if your ISP is selectively throttling certain services. Seems really unlikely they would throttle Steam because that's like a 90% use case for high speed connections.

Win7 anon here. I use its built-in automatic back-up function every day at 6am for my image folder. >>
>>106944002
use a 3rd party backup tool.

Generally, it's a good idea to do a fresh backup every now and then on top of incremental daily backups. It might also be set to keep the previous backup for a set period of time.

I'm unsure of if W7 allows you to modify the retition policy, but a 3rd party tool should give you that level of customization.
>>
>>106943122
It just goes by IP. 4chan programming is ultra lazy if the last few years weren't a clue.
>>
>>106944002
It's an ultra-primitive backup format cribbed from IRIX, like a lot of NT era tools. If you read the man page for xfs_dump it makes perfect sense.

Basically it just dumps the ntfs directory structure to file and then layers diffs on top, but it doesn't bother implementing removal because they'd have to handle fragmentation or tank restore speed. On IRIX it was originally intended for tape where you need to start fresh periodically anyway.

Use a modem 3rd party to like other Anon said. restic for instance.

Puffco Peak Pro is the "cool" option, more "normie" friendly and seen in a bunch of tiktoks and instagram reels. But from a pure technology perspective, the Dr. Dabber Switch 2 seems the more advanced. The induction heating and IR temp monitoring as well as the option to use quartz, titanium, or sapphire.

Puffco Peak Pro has the option for a wireless charging base where the Dr. Dabber Switch 2 needs to be plugged in.

Fine Art America hosts images on their site with urls like these:
https://images.fineartamerica.com/images/artworkimages/mediumlarge/1/3-the-starry-night-vincent-van-gogh.jpg
where "mediumlarge" refers to the size of the image, and can be replaced with "small" for a smaller image.
However, if you try to replace "mediumlarge" with stuff like "big," "full," "large," "orig," or "original," it doesn't give you anything.
Is there any way to find what I could replace "mediumlarge" with in the url that would provide the full scale image?

I'm aware of the program fineartdown but it doesn't work, it's very outdated and in its current state it compiles incomplete images covered in watermarks.

yes, i've done that before, but it takes a couple steps, since youtube subtitles are in a unique format, or at least the styles subs like you want are in a unique format. there's a tool to convert them to .ass however

so Youtube is using a proprietary subtitle format called YTT (it's the srv3 format in your list)
this format is really great because it has the most flexibility of most other sub formats out there in terms of styling and positioning. One caveat is that I don't know if any media player can use this
you may however convert it to .ass (yes it's an actual format) using this converter: https://github.com/arcusmaximus/YTSubConverter
it's normally a .ass to .ytt converter but here's a note from the readme of that tool for the reverse conversion: https://github.com/arcusmaximus/YTSubConverter?tab=readme-ov-file#reverse-conversion
but don't expect it to be the same as it is shown in the youtube video you're taking it from

No. btrfs does not know when a sector was reallocated. Also, it only checks allocated space so it would have no idea of bad sectors occurring in free space.

Tech question: every time I run my microwave in my new shitty studio apartment it trips the breaker, it does this on every single damn outlet in the unit, how do I mitigate this
>>
>>106949814
1350mAh is essentially the same as 1300mAh, 3200mAh is about twice as long in practice, you can think of it as twice as big even though the battery is the same size. Bigger also means longer to charge but that also depends on charger.

You can use Watts to find out how long, but again in practice 3200mAh is about double 1300mAh, 2000mAh is somewhere in the middle.
>>
>>106949927

also it sounds like a wiring issue if it trips different breakers. normally breakers trip because they are GFCI or because they are overloaded (old school TV and vacuum on in the same circuit) both of which is unlikely if you're actually tripping different breakers with nothing else (or just lights) on them. So you're left with faulty wiring or a bad microwave.

Thus you can get an outlet tester and check for yourself and/or bring in another microwave and/or take your microwave to a friend's to see if you can narrow down the problem. Again core assumption is that different outlets are tripping different breakers because at least SOME are on a different circuit and that breaker/circuit doesn't have a fancy GFCI or other "wet area" fault interrupt built in.

you could rule out a fault by using a wattmetre to measure how much power it's drawing and compare that to it's rated power draw. if it's operating normally, then you may need to identify what else is running on the same circuit, and how many amps that circuit can handle.
>>
>>106950241
>>106949871
>or you have too many things running on that circuit.
to be clear, i don't intend to mean a high count of devices, rather their combined power usage doesn't leave enough for the microwave. like if it's a 16A breaker and there's 6A of stuff constantly or regularly running, then you can't use a 12A device on it (for long), as you could end up using 18A of power, which will trip the breaker

Anons, I am a terminallet, that is, I have never used CLI in my life. I've been on linux for some time now and got some basics figured out but was wondering how to properly use yt-dlp and these other -dl CLI software. Where do I go?

if we're talking /from-scratch/, then we'd have to start with arguments. they're text you enter after the command to give the command some context regarding what you want to do.
the first things you should run if you don't know what to do, is;
application --help

or
man application

these will often provide details regarding what arguments are available and how to use them.
there's some commonality between arguments and their usage, like for example -v/--verbose is a common way to request more detailed output, but each program may have their own rules regarding argument names and how they want them written. arguments are typically case-sensitive, so if something says to use "-D", they really mean "-D", not "-d"
>>
>>106951185
yeah, the --help arg (or -h) usually tells you how to use the CLI program you're using as well as detailing the arguments you'd want to use
again as an example, simply typing
yt-dlp "youtube link"

downloads the youtube video in the youtube link you provided, however adding the --format argument like so
yt-dlp --format mp4 "link goes here"

downloads the video in mp4 format

LUKS or VeraCrypt will prevent scenario A.
But once quantum computing actually gets a foothold, the tools will have to evolve.

Only VeraCrypt will prevent scenario B.
You can create 2 encrypted volumes with VeraCrypt, and have 2 different passwords unlock.
If you're forced, under distress, you can reveal the password to the "fake" partition, where you would store some non-discriminating things (like config files and credentials for random shit).

I need an affordable USB drive with high-ish speeds (For a USB drive anyways) to turn into a bootable Linux drive and for some storage. I'm thinking a 256-512GB size since that's in the realm of affordability since the last time I'd looked at them. USB 3 and USB A preferred but I can use C.

What's actually a good thumb drive that balances speed, reliability, and price? I'm leaning on a SanDisk one but there's options out there and the market for random hardware is so wonky these days with manufacturing defects and formerly good manufacturers going to shit. I don't think that site has made a mistake, I think they just auto-copy details released by manufacturers. Otherwise someone has a really boring job typing stuff out.
It's really hard to find info on the C41 "OLED" version with QLED, I suspect it's a model released in markets where the laws are so relaxed that they can get away with deceptive naming (the TV uses "OLED Motion" for motion interpolation so it's totally not deceptive at all to then use QLED for the display).

Every picture should have EXIF data, if your image viewer doesn't show that info then it's a shit viewer.
Also, image collections should be managed with a proper program, not your standard manager. Things like ACDSee and Digikam.

The originals will often have metadata (EXIF) for the date, but depending on how they were backed up or transferred, that metadata could be gone, which is why I tend to use the date/time as the file name for my pictures.

I bought the 26tb Seagate external HDD when it was on sale, not to shuck but to use as a backup for my NAS which I am also setting up.

However, I noticed that the drive constantly causes windows explorer's file browser to freeze: I expect this with external drives when first accessing them or opening up a big folder, but with this drive it happens even after a folder has been open and I just haven't touched my mouse in a while, I guess because the drive spins down and for whatever reason the computer isn't keeping what it read before in it's memory for more then a few minutes

Is this normal? also, if this is normal, how would a NAS not constantly also take a while to open any folder or file? Do their OS's keep the drives constantly spinning or something wheras an external HDD does not?

That's some super deep cut chinkshit. I can't even find it on aliexpress. As a rule you only buy SSDs from companies that make flash. Occasionally I'll get a message that I'm permanently banned for 'Tor/Proxy Exit Node' or something and it says I've been banned since earlier this summer. But I only just switched to my new internet service this month. I was using a different provider for a few years before and haven't had any problems until now after switching. There wouldn't have been any tampering with it since the equipment was brand new in a sealed package.

And then in a few minutes when I check back in again, I'lI be unbanned as if nothing happened. I can't look up the message in the history tab either. I should have screenshotted it.
I don't use any proxies or anything. The router doesn't have any special settings. The apps I have installed are basic photo editing/painting software and games. I use librewolf with ublock/privacy badger, violentmonkey (for webm sounds), and a webp converter. Those are my only plugins I have enabled. I don't think have anything shady installed that could be causing this.

I just checked a minute ago and there's no ban message so this post will probably go through without issue. Do I write a message in the ban appeal section the next time it happens or wait it out again? It says I can buy a 4chan pass to bypass it but I didn't need to do that with my previous ISP. I've tried clearing all my cookies/browser settings but it still happened again. It happens randomly too. I'll be fine for several hours, then suddenly banned, then 5-10 minutes later unbanned, then fine for a few days, then banned/unbanned. And I don't do anything, I just go back into the banned page and do the captcha and see if I'm banned or not. I haven't changed my IP or reset my browser since setting it up earlier this month. A few days ago there was a blackout but it only lasted for a few minutes. If my IP did change it would have been from that, but it only would have happened that one time.

As said, it's a good idea to do a fresh backup every 6-12 months, regardless of your daily incremental backups.
It likely is just set to do that by default and isn't set to delete the previous backup (it's usually a good idea to keep at least 1 or 2 older versions of your backup).

I have a nobreak that is ~1.5 years old. The power just went out very briefly and the battery didn't kick in, despite being charged, resulting in power loss. Power came back a second later.

The question is: does this mean the nobreak is likely faulty now, or just that it needs a battery change? It still protects me from outages usually, but this is the second time where it drops the ball.

Might even be able to find old Lenovo Legion laptops which are GAMING laptops, but they still might be cheaper. Will probably still sound like a jet engine once you do anything above watching videos though.

I could check that again. I don't usually care to update it but I did at some point for some reason.
>hello Samsung!
Actually one of my drives is Samsung. Am I just screwed then? The Samsung drive has the OS installed. Maybe I can switch it to the other drive(WD) and hope for the best?

It just depends on your needs. HDDs are usually preferred because they're generally cheaper and last longer. You can use flash memory like SSDs and USB flash drives, but they need to be powered every so often. If the device will be powered on often then that's not too much of an issue.
Externals are usually the drives that didn't meet a certain mark for the manufacturer, and without warranty. At least when it comes to HDDs.

i have all my shit on my desk ready to upgrade my system.
gonna swap out my hard drives for a new one with a new OS (win11pro)

i just can't be assed to do it though.
fuck it... I guess i'll just wallow without a PC and feel sorry for myself. I need to blast air into my PC tower and get rid of the dust but there's no vacuum on site. I have a broom and a roomba so like.. i don't know this is stupid im bored and also stupid. i can't make myself do it.. i can't make myself use windows 11.. ugghh fuck. fuck man.. fuuuuuuuck. i guess im gonna use this spare hard drive that's still in its little baggie it came in. its just been sitting at the bottom of a plastic tote with a bunch of wires and shit on top for god knows how long. i hope it still works.

I just followed the landchad.net tutorials to set up my very first VPS and website and replace the password login with SSH keys. The thing is, I'm on wangblows, and I did everything in TightVNC because it's recommended by my provider, so all the keys are on the server. Was I supposed to use PuTTY or WSL to make them on my 'host machine' so I could keep the private one on there and do ssh-copy-id to put only the public one on the VPS?
Did I just put a 'free use' sign on my server's asscrack?
>>
>>106958553
ideally you'd want to generate the keys in your local machine and then share the public key to your vps keeping the private key in your own system
>>
>>106958553
What >>106958619 said but it's not exactly a free use tattoo, more like the keys are in the first table you'd see when you enter and if someone does enter (either through a vulnerability or just through physical access), it's the first thing they'd see.

Either
>Bad sectors/reads
Or
>SMR shenanigans
Bad sectors you can tell with anything that can read SMART data (crystal disk info, or distros disk application for *NIX)

SMR likely has a (likely CMR) cache to help smooth the writes it has to do, and when it decides to write the cache properly it blocks the disk for the duration, likely causing your issue, enabling write caching (in RAM) should help mitigate this issue

You can always run Linux in a VM and pass the WiFi card to it, then share its network connection back with the host laptop.
>tfw living in a time when linux has better wifi support than windows
>>
>>106959052
That's the standard way to do it.
Either way, it makes no practical difference.

>>106958520
You could try removing the Samsung drive and installing a separate OS on the remaining drive. You only need this for a test.
If the issue persists, wipe the new OS and put the Samsung back in.
You could also try Linux in a live environment, suspend the computer a few times and see how it behaves. Bonus is that you don't have to touch your current OS or drives for this.
Grab the latest Kubuntu ISO, extract all it's files to a FAT32-formatted flash drive, then boot from that drive.

Linux in 2025 having a feature an OS from 2015 doesn't isn't really a selling point. At least win10 supports multiple monitors.

you'd think there would be ways to do near lossless removal of black bars, at least with some more modern codecs

What do you mean power supply? Aren't both power supply and ssds supposed to have fail-safes?

>High profile incidents
Which low incidents did WD have?

>>106956933
Blu-ray videos? I'd just leave the black bars desu. There's really no downside to leaving them in. If you're going to re-encode the video, then remove the black bars, if not, just leave them.

i have something building in wsl and it's going to take a while and im really tired but windows knows when i fall asleep or leave and it shuts down and updates. what do i do

i think i'll go to bed and if that happens, i will ditch windows forevrer

How do I start torrenting? I have a home server with plenty of storage. I want to move off Netflix and Prime because they never have anything good.

I know I need Jellyfin on TV and I can work out other elements like servarr and qBittorrent, but I’m not sure how about the nomenclature. Indexes, trackers, seeders etc.. and where do I find places to torrent from? And how do I know if they are safe?

I’m interested in video and audio fyi
>>
>>106959329
I'll have to try the latter suggestion as I can't really just really try the former. It's also random, so that's why the latter sounds like it works best. Thanks.

hello
>>
>>106960122
what i use;
kodi - frontend, with the jellyfin plugin to sync their libraries
jellyfin - obviously
sonarr - tv show downloading
radarr - movie downloading
transmission - torrent client
prowlarr - manage torrent indexers for sonarr/radarr

i like transmission specifically because you can disable seeding entirely. i don't seed on my home connection, only on my vps, as i'll get letters otherwise

as for basic torrent terms:
indexer - somewhere which lists and tracks torrents, usually a website, like thepiratebay or 1337x
seeder/seeding - someone who has all the data for a torrent and is sharing it to others
leecher/leeching - someone who has some of the data and may be sharing it to others
peer - a seeder or a leecher
tracker - a service which can be used by peers to find other peers, public ones can be used by anyone, private ones require a key to use
infohash - a unique string which identifies the torrent
magnet link - a link which contains the infohash for the torrent, given to a torrent client to have it find the torrent metadata
torrent metadata / .torrent file - contains hashes and filenames for the data it describes, kind of like an archive but with the file data removed

What are some methode to make your CV more attractive to future employers?
I have a degree but very little practical experience in anything, so I'm looking for ways to look less like a loser on paper.
Are certifications and online courses worth a dime? Internahips are hard to get when you're not in college anymore

Because electricians aren't telecom workers. Auto-muhdix fixes it anyway.

>>106959329
The standard is pick one and use it on both ends of the same cable.

are there any antivirus actually worth a damn? paid or free

>Aren't power supply supposed to have fail-safes?
No. Some PSUs claim to protect against cross wiring, but it only a tiny minority of them do it effectively. There is no protection against out of spec ripple, which is like 99.99% of PSU fault equipment damage. You can't even test for it without a rig that costs 25x more than the PSU. This is why you don't buy cheap power supplies and swap them out if you even think they're acting sketchy.
