>>106943120This general is dead because in headphone world nothing ever happens and 30+ year old models are still relevant.
>>106943120>$20Now they've been relegated to $5, graphs, EQ and shit flinging. No one posts IEMs anymore.

what are the biggest headphones I can realistically buy? I want them to be functional but borderline comical/genuinely extremely comical in size. Like they didn't make them specifically to be huge but that was the unintended result. I'm trying to play an extremely sophisticated and complicated prank that will pay off hard.
>>106943339I concur. There's been some improvements in DD and planar magnetic designs. AMTS basically serves the same purpose as Audeze's fazor but it does seem to work better for tuning. Most of the time anyway. So we did get planars with better tuning and some DD headphones with much lower THD compared to older models. It's only electrostats that haven't really changed all that much outside of more models with removable cables and some decently tuned ones like the first CRBN and the Corina>>106943390Probably Jecklin Float QA unless you can DIY your own bullshit like picrel.

>>106943617Some day, they will realize that FR is the only measurement that doesn't matter because it's the only one that can be arbitrarily changed with EQ.
>>106943645It can't be arbitrarily changed because you're limited by distortion.
>>106943663Which is why distortion measurements matter and FR doesn't.
>>106943668The combination matters. If your FR is already close to your desired FR you don't need so much EQ and you're less likely to get audible distortion.
>>106943684Headphones with awful distortion are bad even if the FR is exactly perfect for you.
>>106943323Honestly if it really worked, audiophiles would consider it.

>>106943390At one point Zalman made true 5.1 surround headphones with 3 drivers per cup, it requires multiple cables to work.
>>106941141What speakers, what sub$400 budget
Are planar headphones like the edition xv worth getting? I'm looking at the mdr-mv1s or the hd 490 pros. I wear these all day and they'll be used for media consumption mainly. budget is right around $400 probably
>>106943733There are very few models where distortion can be a valid concern. Most perform well even beyond reasonable listening volumes.
>>106944374>Are planar headphones worth getting?Yes.>like the edition xvNo, chinkfiman has terrible build quality and quality control.> I'm looking at the mdr-mv1s or the hd 490 prosNeither of these are planar but 490 are probably better. But imo just get DCA Aeons, they are planar magnetic. Both the open and closed models are $399 on Drop. Remember to EQ, regardless of which one you get.
>>106944374While you get higher performance per dollar with Hifiman, they're called "chinkfiman" in these threads for a reason. Their quality tends to be lacking, from my own personal experience my hifiman headphones died within 10 months of me owning them. For my own $400-500 I'd be looking at entry-level Dan Clark Audio headphones.
I have a Sennheiser HD558 and a Beyerdynamics DT770 Pro. Technically the D770 should sound better, but I prefer the sennys? What's wrong with me? Is it 80 ohm impedance on the DTs without an amp or what? I mean, Im not saying the hd558 sounds better, just that I prefer it. I asked my brother and he said DTs sounded better. I kinda agree but not really? What's up with that
>>106944458>>106944374Nevermind, I just checked and the sale is over and they're back to being $450. Still worth it imo but at that point it might be a better idea to either wait for a sale or buy directly from DCA so you get better customer service.>>106944479HRTF, meaning two different people will "hear" a headphone differently due to the shape of the ear canal. And Beyers have a fuckton of treble so I don't really like them either. You probably just don't enjoy treble rape.
>>106944479There's nothing wrong with having a preference for one thing over another. I like the way my DIY bullshit sounds and that's all that matters.
>>106944466>>106944507Alright, I'll keep an eye out for those aeon open backs to go back to $400. Not in a rush so no worries on waiting. Thanks!
>>106944507>You probably just don't enjoy trebleYeah I feel the trebles on these headphones. It's weird really, it was the first thing that stood out from them. Could EQ fix this? Not really sure how that shit works.
Reminder HD600 + Apple Dongle is endgame. If you spent more than $300 you threw your money away on snake oil.
>>106944374They don't necessarily sound better than dynamic driver ones. But you can get a proper bass extension and the feel of openness without EQ. One thing for sure is that QC is a bigger issue and overall driver fragility and longevity is a thing. You can check marketplaces for vintage headphones of this type, they have been around since the 70s, but you will not get nearly as many results like with estats or dynamics. >>106944466Can't say that my DCA experience was much better, E3 membrane started to crackle whenever I moved my jaw after a week.
>>106944580I've had NoireX for coming up on 11 months without any problems. Also they're a US based company and their warranty is seemingly decent i've seen no complaints from users on various audio forums.
>>106944565Wanting more input/output options, more power, and physical volume control are all reasons to want something other than the Apple dongle.
>>106944560> Could EQ fix this?Yes, most of the time. Sometimes the headphones have resonances which make treble sound sharper and those cannot be corrected with EQ but for the vast majority of headphones a high shelf filter will suffice. If you don't get how EQ works you can just open autoeq, copy the preset and import it into the EQ software of your choice.>>106944580>Can't say that my DCA experience was much better, E3 membrane started to crackle whenever I moved my jaw after a week.My Aeons are over 2 years old and I haven't had any problems. I've heard of some Aeon 2s having some issues with the membrane but I think that was a faulty batch. DCA has great customer support so I wouldn't even worry about that sort of thing since most of the time he'll replace the headphones even if they're out of warranty. Hell, he sent me a free set of pads once, even after my headphones were out of warranty just because I asked.
>>106944466Just wanted to counter point this. I've had the Sundara for about 7 years now and have had zero issues other than the expected pad + cord replacement every once in a while. They're basically just one big piece of metal though (with a leather strap where your head rests) so there's not much that could break. I had way more issues with the HD650 since its just a piece of shitty plastic.
>>106944625I mean, i'm hardly the only one, seeing people complain about their hifiman headphones breaking early in their life is a regular occurrence here.
>>106944633I can confirm this. Both my HE400SE and Edition XS died within a year. Driver failure. Didn't take them apart so I'm not sure if the membrane tore if if it was something else. My Aryas didn't die but started creaking after a few months of use and the headband mechanism was loose and changed position sometimes.
>>106944652I bought my HE400i used like new two years ago and the drivers are still great, but I've had to replace the cable, earpads, and print a replacement yoke.
I am a cheap bastard and dont want to pay full retail for the Moondrop Cosmo or Moondrop Venus. I would get either of them I dont really care, I would pay 600 for a Cosmo pair or 200 for a Venus pair. Or better yet, some even chinkier chinkshit that looks similar and is made out of aluminium.
>>106944616>just open autoeq, copy the preset and import it into the EQ software of your choiceholy shit the difference is substancial. Thanks anon
>>106944983>I'm a cheap bastard so I want to spend $600 on chinkshitWhat?
I'm kinda eying ATH-R50X headphones as my next purchase. Are they worth it? I primarily listen to Japanese music of various genres.
Is it worth to go for picrel at 100€? Hi-X15 by austrian audio.I have a set of AKG K240s from the chink era, sound ok but ears are touching the drivers; the Hi-X15 are closed backs though, but have deeper ear cups
>>106945435Forgot to mention that the intended use is public transport + office
>>106945435>>106945552Yeah, those are pretty good and high sensitivity so they'll even run off of a phone.>>106945505The frequency response is kind of all over the place but THD is very low for such a "cheap" pair of closed back cans. Would probably sound pretty good after some EQ.
Very pleasantly surprised by Koss Porta Pro Classic headphones, they're almost a drop-in, on-ear replacement for Drop HD6XXs I've been wearing for a while. Only things I could really think of to change this up are maybe changing their mount to KSC75 ear-hooks since I find the foam perfectly comfortable, and carefully taking them apart to solder in MMCX sockets in place of the wire.
>>106943617Giving those fags access to cheap unrestricted internet has been a disaster for online communities.
>>106943390Arya
Any good headphones yet.
>>106944983If you are willing to pay $600 for chinkshit just get Arya Stealth. Moondrop are a meme that got popular because they are cheap and they put tranime girls on their packages. They actually got cocky and started charging premium brand prices for their shit and those tranime fags are eating that slop. Also, aluminum, metal, wood and whatever "premium" material used in headphones are irrelevant. The most important thing is comfort and more metal/wood makes headphones heavier which is bad for comfort.
JT3. yeah or nah?
Remember to buy Final Audio Sonorous with revolutionary hybrid driver design! Dynamic driver + balanced armature in your headphones? Yes, it's real! Finally, you can have sound as good as in IEMs in your over-ear headphones! No need to cope anymore - you can have headphones that are actually good!
>>106943120>>106943142one thing that remains a bit unsolved is wireless low latency headphones i think. there are no real headphones that offer it, so your only option is gaymen headsets which are a meme. audiophiles call all headsets shit while gaymers will eat up anything, so you end up with a 50-50 split of every headset being reviewed as "never used it but definitely total shit" OR "omg the bass is loud 10/10">just go wired lolno, i dont like the leash, i walk around while working on my arts and crafts >just get bluetooth wireless and accept the latency lolno, i like to play shootan games
>>106943339> DCA 3D printed AMTSIt is just a fancy implementation of an acoustic filter, nothing really groundbreaking. I demoed both closed and openback versions multiple times and different units and couldn't find a position with sweet and smooth treble extension as some graphs may suggest. I did manage to get it unstuck, but it already became floppy and started to fart and got stuck again even without EQ.>>106947498You don't need low latency for music, just like you don't need high fidelity for gayming.
>>106947579>You don't need low latency for music, true>just like you don't need high fidelity for gayming.arguably you do because games also have sound and sometimes even music. it's just a pretty niche use case. yes there are headsets but as i said, it's very hard to find a good pair because they don't get properly reviewed or tested against headphones, and they come with a pointless shitty ear rape microphone, even the audeze maxwell
>>106947606From what I've seen, most professional gamers are switching to IEMs and put on top of them Wireless OE with enabled ANC.If you want all-in-one solution, Hyperx Cloud S III graphs good and does not cost a a fortune.
>>106947651not sure about cloud 3 s but i tried cloud 3 wireless and i really disliked them. ive already raved about this in another thread but i did direct audio comparisons with the cloud 3, akg k371s, k612s and astro a50s. cloud 3 was by far the worst. they sounded outright distorted and required installing hyperx spyware and fucking around with the EQ to make them slightly better.k371s were ok but i don't like studio headphone style that much. the audio quality was good in the sense of being able to pick out instruments and sounds, but it's flat without enabling the fun mode in the EQ and overall kind of harsh on the ears.k612s were similar but they were incredibly uncomfortable so i immediately gave up on them. plus i don't like open back.astro a50s, which i'm using now, are a good all-rounder. it's not studio style audio but it's pleasant and sounds whole. EQ was good out of the box. the only thing i don't like about them is that i can't use a headphone jack to go wired in case i want total lack of latency, so i will have to plug in my wh1000xm4 bass monster if i ever play rhythm games or something
>>106947498Wireless latency has been solved by 2.4Ghz dongles. Mice, controllers and even headsets have moved to wirless and the latency is either the same as or in some cases even better than wired latency. The problem is that headphones manufacturers refuse to go wireless or at least offer wirless options for their good headphones because they have to pander to boomers. Boomers still believe that wireless is automatically bad. There is also the fact that snakeoil wire sales is a big market for those high end headphones so those companies will not go wireless untill there is a big market shift. One massively untapped market is open back wireless 2.4ghz headphones. They literally don't exist (no bluetooth addons don't count). Even with headsets there is only 2 (just TWO) open back headsets and they are bad gamer slop. Even the new Sennheiser HDB 630 is just bluetooth and they made it closed back.
>>106947579>You don't need low latency for musicYeah but you do need it for movies and games. Most people use their headphones for more than just music.
>>106947724>Wireless latency has been solved by 2.4Ghz donglesi think they still have like 30ms delay for audio because audio contains a lot more data than mouse input. i briefly tested it and it is sort of noticeable if you really compare it side by side (same audio playing on wireless and wired at the same time) but i doubt it would ever make a difference for anything except the most competitive of competitive gaming
>>106947724>>1069477742.4Ghz shit still has latency because it's still bluetooth inside. Latency comes from lossy encoding, which needs Fourier transform, which needs a buffer of audio.
>>106947774>but i doubt it would ever make a difference for anything except the most competitive of competitive gamingYeah, it won't.Also 2.4 dongles are not equal. Some of them are bad and some are good. If more r&d went into them for audio, they would definitely be as good as wires in all aspects.
>>106947750For movies you can set a video delay in VLC and other players. Most codecs perform acceptably well even in stock, I don't see any major lipsync issues with my XM5 while watching youtube videos.
>>1069478082.4Ghz dongles use wifi signal not bluetooth which is why they can transfer way more data.
Do most wireless bluetooth connected headphones have sound and quality issues? And isn't ANC bad for you?
>>106947825They don't transfer more data. They are bluetooth. They are using LC3 codec. Your wifi doesn't have 30ms latency. Wifi speakers have 1ms latency.
I've had my hd600s for 10 years, recently I bought a cable for them with an inline mic. It's pretty neat for plugging into my controller whenever I play a console. Is there any reason to buy a different pair of headphones or are they still the goat? Also, if a headset has more than one driver per ear or it's wireless you're a faggot
>>106947865they're good but not great for music and terrible for games. get a pair of HD560s
>>106944093If it was real I'd buy it
I've been using HD 6XX for many years now, I replace the head padding and earpads every 1 or 2 years.Replacing the head padding really made the top of my head hurt, it's like it's slowly burrowing into my skull and after a few hours it really hurts, even when I take them off.So I recently ended up buying a capra strap instead, which an anon here suggested. However, after using it for just a month, the capra strap is also permanently stretching and becoming dented, it reached a point where when I wear the headphones, my head bends the strap so much that my head is touching the unpadded plastic behind the strap already.Wtf is going on? I've already adjusted the length setting of each side to be shorter or longer, but it seems to make no difference. It wasn't always like this. And no I'm not having skull cancer either, my head is a normal shape.
>>106944565this but mojo2 + openheart cable since the stock cable is dogshit

Is the hd600 truly the reverred holy grail and spending moar buck will yield none or very little?? Which of those strap in velcro dot mics should I buy along with. According to a very old image guide I had saved from g on my disk it's the xtymics 2 dollar chink shit pic rel. But I can't find it listed anywhereWhat dac/amp to buy also. >>106948833Fiio K11 + HD6xxIf you are from EU then importing 6xx probably does not make any sense. All attachable mics are ultragay and stupid, just get a small tabletop USB mic, even Razer Seiren Mini (goes on sales down to 29$) is much better than all that shit.

>>106948898Unless you live in a huge empty concrete box, room acoustics do not matter for casual mic use. Even more, casual use tabletop mics like I mentioned have supercardiod or cardiod narrow pickup pattern making room acoustics even more irrelevant.
>>106949014Then get yourself the Momentum 4, as the DT 770 or 560s aren't suitable for outdoor use.
>>106948866>could go for edifier mr3sAlready got these, fairly satisfied with it, except that I'm missing proper bass. I was thinking of getting an edifier T5 to supplement that, actually. It's for my computer day-to-day use only, sometimes I'll play my guitar on them.Thoughts on this setup?
I have 660S2 for like 14 months or so, already changed ear pads to new fresh ones. Whenever I have urge to toss $1000+ on another new headphones I just listen couple of song on these Senny's and that urge disappear.I would consider go for planars but I know that I will lose the tonality of 6 series and these are just seductive and can't get enough of them.I would hope that Sennheiser get a grip together and release HD900 a combination of 6 series mid range and tonality with wide soundstage of 800 and not piercing skull treble with full flat extension of bass that is superb fast for a dynamic driver but a man can dream. (660S2 have really nice extended bass, its not "best" but still sennheiser best on open headphone, I'm quite surprised that open headphones can achieve such an articulate bass)
>>106949606If that bass impressed you, you'd be blown away by NoireXO.
>>106949014bose qc ultra is one to look out for outdoors, good anc and tuning but iems will block out more noise and are infinitely more portable, so you might be looking at this in the wrong way, depends how much of your listening is on the go >>106949444can't say I can vouch for the T5 too much, I know plenty of folk who swear by svs subs but I also appreciate that they are also a lot harder on your wallet
>>106949628>If that bass impressed you, you'd be blown away by NoireXO.I'm more impressed that there is actually "Bass" in open headphones. Whenever I had open headphones before (although cheaper ones) they very anemic or there was no subbass at all making them lifeless with a hole in that region. I can only imagine what DAC Noire can achieve with fast planar driver and subbass but thats not a real surprise. (I would love to give them a listen tho)

HD 490 pro or HD 550 for gaming. Im using HD600 atm they are like 20y/o with the old marble look they had
>>106951348Its pleasant but also at the same time kinda low res. There are much cheaper options with a similar sound signature. Other more expensive models from the same company like E3 offer way better instrument separation, clarity, bass dynamics and detail retrieval.

>>106951478I never had 660S1, I got S2 when officially S1 was pulled out and I would decided to get S2 anyway because of that extra bass extension. These sounds energetic, grabbing your attention, detailed while being very pleasant without any harshness with touch of warmth in undertones. Voices, guitars, tonality are Top Tier Class S here. For some people these may sound a bit on dark side but definitely I don't hear anything that would be referred as "mud" or veil.

>>106951611>I can't hear anything above 14kHz and I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything. You actually can hear past 14Khz, the problem is that you need more dB louder to register that sound, so brighter headphones compensate that.

>>106951669From what I understand the little hairs in your ears that vibrate to a specific frequency break off one day and then you lose that frequency forever.Playing extremely loud probably causes resonances at lower frequencies which I might still be able to pick up but they would sound like the lower frequency not the original one.
>>106951530$20 IEMs sound better than $200 IEMs because as far as FR and THD goes, there's no improvement as the price goes up. IEMs won't sound better than good headphones purely because1. >>106951760My bad is this what you prefer?>>106951737I mean on a conceptual level, how much more would you need to spend on headphones to get an equivalent level of quality to an IEM such as the Letshuer S12

>>106951783I had HD598 before and personally I didn't expected much from S2 but what struck me at first how many finer details there is in voices and everything feels very coherent and in space between each instruments, at least compared to 598.If you plan to get any HD6 series just get some good dac that can power up the headphones, apple dongle dac its not enough and with that dongle the S2 sounded veryyyyy slooooow. (probably people refer this as mud or veil)
>>106951898https://www.youtube.com/shorts/VDTNmHfOE-k
>>106951865>is this what you prefer?Yes, I will now answer your question. If you mean after EQ then any low distorting planar will sound better than basically every IEM after EQ due to the reasons I mentioned already. Even a HE400SE which is fairly cheap but built like shit, sadly. Otherwise Audeze LCD-2 or DCA Aeon are good options. If you don't want to EQ then you'll most likely have to spend around 1k or more for something with good stock Harman compliance that also has bass. So higher end DCA cans like Noire X/XO since Audeze simply cannot tune their shit properly.
>>106951904Thanks, mate. I also have the 599SE, I think HD 598 and HD 599SE are very close in sound performance.
>>106951760>1. There's no pinna interaction which means worse spacial effects. Pinna interaction is also why surround speaker setup>headphonesThere is no "spatial effect" with headphones or IEMs. What you get from pinna interactions is a change in FR that might or might not be congruent with the desired FR for timbre. These HpTFs have been shown to not be congruent with HRTF, pinna interactions are not a definite positive.>2. You don't get the natural crossfeed that open backs provide which, once again, means worse spacial effects. You are talking about crosstalk, which is inconsequential with headphones.

I'm thinking of getting new headphones, any tips? I've been using dt 770 pro 32 ohm for the past years for my desktop but the bass is kind of underwhelming for synthwave and metal. It's not bad by any means, but I also have wh-1000xm4 and it sounds so much better imo. any tips on a good pair of wired headphones with a bit more punch than dt 770 pro 32 ohm? budget of $500 or so
>>106952170>headphones.comOpinion discarded.
>>106952044And yet it is true that the more a headphone leaks sound, the more spacious the illusion of soundstage. This is a phenomenon that's simply not present in IEMs. ASR's Amir pointed that out and while it's just a hypothesis it proves true in my experience. Crinacle thinks it's due to the cup size or just comfort but I don't really buy that explanation. Of course, some people do not get the illusion of soundstage at all and in that case this would all be irrelevant to those people. But I doubt those people are the ones buying open back headphones. That's without getting into other issues IEMs have like using tips that aren't perfect kills the bass response or moisture damage and clogging filters. I own a few IEMs myself since they're handy for travel or going out but I'd never choose them over a good pair of over ears.>>106952171DCA Aeon but those require good amplification. If you don't have an amp then just get an Aune AR5000 or a Verum One/Two and just apply a low shelf filter via EQ that's big enough to get the amount of bass you want.
>>106952190>Opinion discarded.
>>106952232>Aune AR5000lmfao.
>>106952232nice, thanks for the tips! also realized that I have the 80 ohm and not 32 ohm
>>106952232The "illusion" of soundstage is real because of the lack of isolation and general fit around the ear, not because of special properties inherent to headphone response vs IEMs. Isolation/openness and crosstalk are not the same. FR will also change the perception of soundstage.Proper localization of sounds in space and soundstage are also not the same, most people describe soundstage as a perceived size of sound. Imaging is also not sound localization, we know that for stereo mixes, sounds are panned in various ways. FR will change these effects but that's about it.

Dear Anons,Tried out the Dyson OnTrac with an USB-C cable demo kit on a tech shop yesterday. I usually use cheap Sennheiser IEM's for commute, however I liked how pleasant the sound felt.I now think I might get a wired headphone for commute. I don't want any batteries on it and would prefer if type c output was an option. I have also been enjoying the SHP9500's at home for a long time.Any recommendations?Tldr; need a wired headphone for commute with a sound signature similar to the SHP9500's.
I mainly game and metal/black metal enjoyer. I got recommended the KSC75, and ordered them + a headstrap from aliexpress and some new pads. Also ordered the KPH40X while they're still on sale. I just stumbled upon the FiiO JT1 and it made me itch to get those aswell. Any thoughts on these 3 for gaming (CS2 high rank) and metal/black metal music? Should I just grab the FiiO aswell (On sales in my country for ca $45).

>>106956659Yeah learning about things like HRTF, differences between people in HRTF, various target curves, sine wave sweeping, etc. is a deep rabbit hole and takes a while to learn before you can EQ properly, for sure. With the exception of a few truly awful products, though, like airline headphones, frequency response is going to be pretty much the sole determinant of perceived sound quality. All of the other shit that the autists in these threads obsess about like distortion, driver speed, etc., is absolutely fucking irrelevant.Fancy driver types like planars/electrostats are the ultimate in placebo for gullible retards. You can EQ the bass of most open dynamic driver headphones to the Harman target (which is too much bass) without producing bass distortion that will negatively impact subjectively perceived audio.Anyone claiming otherwise is just trying to rationalize their expensive purchases.Don't fall into the audiophile trap. Don't fall for the claims of marketers.Learn to EQ. Buy headphones that are comfortable and won't break. EQ them. Win the audio game. Win at life.
>>106956638You can get off the shelf drivers for $10 a pop from Digikey, which are also used in multi-hundred dollar headphones.DMS' Omega and Capra Audio's Satyr 2 and 3 are built around that Peerless HPD-50 driver. There's also the Fostex-based Open Alpha from Dan Clark aka MrSpeakers, which reuses the headband and drivers from a Fostex Tx0RP but adds new 3D-printed cups and baffles.I guess the DIYest of all solutions is the Ploopy headphones, which have you assemble a planar driver from scratch, but the tuning on those is atrocious if not used with their DSP box.

Time for me to get some new headphones. I have Dt 990 pro and they sound good but the build quality is shit and they're falling apart. Had mdr v6's a long time ago and liked them. >>106957042>the build quality is shitoutside of the plastic slider piece that is destined to break, what do you think is shit?
>>106956438I'd assume it's at the SPL shown in the raw frequency response graph, since both data are usually derived from the same measurement (Farina chirp).
>>106956884Something like a Satyr 3 or Omega would be basically impossible to machine, since there's a bunch of internal venting going on in those driver baffles.Open Alpha cups are simpler, but would be extremely heavy if made from machined metal. I do kinda want to try making a pair from "forged" carbon at some point though.
>>106957088The pads ripped on the inside along the seam, and then also have been shredding on the outside where they go over the outside of the headphone. Both plastic slidey bit is cracked and/or broken like you mentioned, and overall they just got pretty wobbly and loose very quickly. >>106959564Just get better headphones?Like I don't understand this unless you're just autistic and HAVE to have THAT particular model to satisfy your 'tism. There are almost assuredly better headphones for your money than hunting down unicorn old chinkfiman headphones.
also posting here:how are the buds 3 pro so lacking in bass?????? i got it for free, but they're supposedly to be £200
>>106957831I bought them too. Some reviewers said insane treble rape. I don't hear it. It's mainly just as warm as the pro 2 with even more subbass (unnecessary but tolerable) and much better ANC, transparency mode and comfort. New XXS eatips are great.
>>106947750>>106947820>wireless latency in moviesmicrojeet audio is a fucking joke
>>106959746aka you never heard top tier headphones.
>>106962201he-1 sounds less spacious than edifier bookshelf speakers. Anything higher tier than this?
>>106960096>That research obviously didn't use bass music genres.

got a questioni used to have a shitty asrock mobo and it made 3.5mm headphones sound like shit while a usb headset sounded platform agnosticso does 3.5mm have lower latency at the cost of not having any onboard audio processing while usb is the opposite?
>>106963030HE400se is cheap and has better bass than any dynamic.
>>106963102it means that your mobo dac is garbage which is usually the case for most mobo dacs. you have to buy a good external dac for if you want the best sound quality from your analogue 3.5mm headphone.usb headsets have their own internal dac which is usually better than a mobo dac.
>>106963011NTA but if a headphone distorts when pushed to the limit then it's not a good headphone. Like that other anon said, you have to account for peaks in music and movies. Bass distortion sounds pleasant until you reach the point when it distorts so bad it seems your headphones are broken. 10 dB peaks in older tracks or movies are common and if you add EQ to fix the lackluster bass most DD have to the equation you end up with pretty bad distortion at times. My Lambdas are kind of similar as in they need an extreme amount of EQ to reach Harman compliant bass(over 15 dB boost) and while they don't distort on most music, some movies are loud enough that EQ+the peak makes them reach the ~115 dB threshold at which electrostats go from 0 distortion to awful distortion and it's not pleasant in the slightest. One of the reasons why imo planars are better. LCD-X won't distort even over 120dB and needs less correction for a good bass response. The older Lambdas are kind of better in that regard since they use glued on pads and thus can reach a linear bass response. You don't necessarily need nigger levels of bass for bad distortion, some movies have bigger peaks.
Is there any chinkshit website that sells headphones cables in picrel colors?I really want cool green or orange cable but those custom cables websites are way too overpriced.
>>106963011I listen to trance, Scandinavians and Japanese dig that. It sounds like shit without bass.
>>106960076Nigga, just use the usb-c cable.
What do we think about the $140,000 headphone?
>>106963102Motherboard DACs are just stuck in the previous generation. All the new development is in USB UAC 2 because the latency problem was solved over 20 years ago and the market is much larger. It doesn't help the inside of a PC case is a hostile RF environment either. Even USB dongle DACs perform differently depending on how close they are to a GPU.
I've been using EQ'd open dynamics for well over a decade and have never once noticed bass distortion. It's a non-issue unless you own airline headphones.Simple as.
>>106963540Honestly those prices aren't awful, some nice connectors and decent quality wire plus labor costs add up pretty quick.See if Openheart on Aliexpress has anything you like, they've got a pretty good rep.
>>106941056Is MiniDSP EARS considered good? if not what is the #1 recommended headphone measurement system that can actually be bought if you're not shillaclei'm looking for one to measure absolute level not just relative
>>106949630>can't say I can vouch for the T5 too much, I know plenty of folk who swear by svs subs but I also appreciate that they are also a lot harder on your walletNot only that, they're not available in my cunt, so I'd be raped by import tariffs. Any recs for DACs? As you can see, I'm a complete noob when it comes to audio. I just want to get away from my (cheap) headphone and headphones in general.
>>106964167It's fine if you're only doing comparative measurements between stuff you own, but it won't produce graphs you can compare with the stuff that's out there online.
>>106960808>HDB 630 is 500€against>momentum 4 is 230€>qc ultra is 330€>1000xm4 is 220€>1000xm6 is 450€the only one remotely comparable is 1000xm6
>>106964167The problem for me with the MiniDSP Ears is they do not provide documentation for how they produce the over-ear compensation curves, which is strange because they clearly label the IEM curve as a diffuse field curve based on the Etymotic ER4SR.It is fucking useless for open-ear headphones without documentation on how they produce the compensation curve. Did they measure the compensation curve in a diffuse field? In a room with good acoustics and flat speakers? It's impossible to know, objectively speaking, how one should adjust their EQ from the compensation curve without this documentation. They're basically saying "lol just trust us bro it'll be flat."I'd absolutely buy one if its open-ear compensation curve was properly documented, i.e., they produced it in a diffuse field, or in a room similar to Harman's listening room that the Harman target was based on. Then I'd know what the fuck to do with its measurements. As is, I'd have no idea what the fuck to do with its measurements.
>>106964436Also the fact they don't provide this documentation hurts the credibility of its open ear compensation curve.Like, what are they trying to hide by not documenting this? Did they just use REW to measure its response in a shitty room or something?
I need a recommendation for headphones. I've had ATH-M50Xs for quite some time, but I'd like something more neutral. I've played around with the eq a bit and I'd prefer more neutral headphones, and I want to upgrade. I've tried some iem (truthear pure and the tanchjim 4U) and I like them for casual listening, but I'd also like a good pair of headphonesSo, what closed-back headphones would you recommend in the 230 bucks range? They need to be drivable with my Hiby R3 Pro IIThanks frens
I have the behringer u-phoria um2 i use for my AT2020 mic and for my headphones / speakers. I just replaced my AKG q701s with the Meze 109 Pros and i realized the audio out for this um2 is only 16bit. The 109 pro are easy to drive but should i be buying a new DAC that's 32 bit? Will i even notice a difference in games or spotify (lossless) as it seems most stuff is usually 16 bit still isnt it? I dont think ive even seen the option to select a bit rate of audio in a game.If i will be getting more out of these headphones with a better DAC what should i get? I've seen the k5 pro ess thrown around a lot
>>106965672You won't notice 32 bit vs 16 bit difference but Behringer output sucks. Most audio interfaces output sucks and exists just for input monitoring.I have behringer, scarlett, two literally who aliexpress audio interfaces and a E2x2 and can confirm picrel, E2x2 is audibly transparent comparable to my many DACs, other interfaces sound like shit.
>>106965899>E2x2Would i be better off getting something like the E2x2 and just fully replacing the behringer or getting a separate dac like the K5Pro or something else (maybe cheaper) and just using the behringer for the input?
>>106960808>>106964349I'm thinking about getting one of these, likely one of these two>sony wh-1000xm6>senny hdb 630the sony has a 40€ sale here but it's only the white one...
>>106965938I used 202HD and a separate DAC for years but switched to E2x2 to reduce clutter / convenience / unified settings management, have not noticed any difference in mic quality.
>>106965938Just get a real headphone amp to drive headphones and stop worrying about how shitty pro audio headphone drivers are. Even E2x2 gets obliterated by JDS Atom+ at 2/3 the price.
>>106966022Part of me even wonders if i should get a dac/amp. These headphones are only 32 Ohm so plugging them right into the PC front jack they get loud enough. Although i have no idea what other specs are like for that, or the rear one.
>>106943390I dunno about headphones but STAX earspeakers are nice and chunky
>closed back headphones with "good graph"When will people learn.
>>106966164My NoireX have been amazing, not sure what you're smoking.E3 are also great, but not worth the extra $1000.
>>106966164Listening with your eyes is dumb in general. FR is probably the least interesting thing you can tell me about headphones. PortaPros graph fuck ugly but they clean up great.
Is there an actual successor to the dt 1990 pros? I actually like the treble
>>106966433They still make 1990s, don't they?
>>106966144Get the atom 2 stack, I have the LCD-gx and while the actual power ceiling is massive overkill, it sounds way better than any integrated audio including my old LG v series phones. Ask ai to explain the benefits of higher gain to you like you're bad at stem
>>106966144Pro DACs are usually fine as long as you only use them as line drivers. They just don't count on you using anything but cheap DD monitors on the headphone jack.>>106966661>benefits of higher gainThere aren't any. I would go so far as to say headphones which need >2Vrms in current year badly designed.
Has anyone tried the sony mdr-7506, I've had mine for a year or more now, I've replaced the cushions and they're pretty comfy now but I kind of feel like trying something new for a bit of variety
>>106963632the headset already has a donglewhat the fuck, just fucking do it jesus

Rate my EQTip: this is for a DT1990 Pro with dekoni velour, and I'm using a combination of harman EQ and a few Fabfilter VSTs (subtle stereo enhancer, balanced mix), out of a behringer interface and iFi zen Can (a thing they stopped producing)Basically "just fuck my shit up" but audio.>and I love it

>>106967558clipping/10
>>106967699If you wanted to do something cheaper then maybe the SMSL DL100 would be better, it's a touch under 200. It's hard to find something competent significantly below 200 outside of dongles, and even those can get pricey
>>106967832>>106967699Maybe a fosi ds2 dongle, though it has buttons instead of a knob which will take a little more thought to use and may hit an awkward middle volume
>>106967558Boosting >10k response is never a good idea.And yeah, >>106967826
>>106965672>>106965899If impedance of the Meze 109 Pro is similar to its sibling 105 Aer, it's not that variable, so the 10 Ohm output impedance wouldn't make too huge of a difference. Otherwise, I'd be most worried about noise and channel unbalance, but if those were a problem you would most likely already have noticed. For 99.999... % of content, 16 or 24 bit won't make a difference. If you want a cheap way to try you could get an Apple dongle, it's technically very good (low output impedance, low noise and distortion, no channel imbalance, flat FR) and fixes all potentially audible flaws of the Behringer. It's not that powerful either, but that won't matter with your cans.
>>106967566>this product is totally legit and what we say it is>we're Chinese, we would never lie>lying is totally not part of our business culture
>>106967832>>106967867Ill take a look at these, I basically never touch the nobs i usually just use the windows volume control so buttons arent really a drawback. I do physically swap from headphone output to speakers which are connected to a 1Mii Bluetooth Digital Amplifier but other than that there's not really any touching of the interface. I did order the k5 just to have something to compare the sound of this behringer to. This SMSL DL100 looks interesting as there is a 3.5 and 6.5 out, but didnt look like you toggle between them with a switch or button
>>106968370They are the same more or less, listed as 40 ohm. >(low output impedance, low noise and distortion, no channel imbalance, flat FRIt's unfortunate that these kind of things are not in any product listings and you need to just search around for people that have done the testing from what i've seen, unless theres some centralized source i should be using
>>106966488Yeah I thought there might be a step up though. I’ll probably just get another pair
I can't tell a difference at all between my shit stack and my mobos realtek alc892. I have 6xxs. am I going deaf?
