Platter drives are about to become more expensive than SSD's because of magnets. If you can find some cheap, now is the time to buy. Tape is another option, but its painfully slow and still requires a magnet. You might have to shell out a bit for the deck in the near future.

TL;DR SSD's are like tiny prisons for electricity and when these prisons are cold escape is very difficult.

Not that you should pay $40 for a 1TB HDD
>>
>>106956276
Black Friday isn't about discounts. Its about making cheap shit for that day and passing it off as normal.
>>
>>106956282
The only people selling that exact model are chinese and that one ebay seller.
I dunno bro...
>>
>>106956314
It was sold on newegg to as a retail boxed drive.
In reality it's an old drive not in production anymore and has been replaced with a newer model
The current WD black 1tb in 2.5in is WD10SPSX
>>
>>106956299
Actually it's about offloading unsold stock on succeptable chumps that'll help correct balance sheets before they replace stock....

They don't make the cheap shit just for 'black friday', the cheap shit is already there, they just re-price to sell off shit they can't otherwise to help push them into the black. Ofc they paint it in a manner that makes them, and you, come off a lot less desperate.
>>
>>106956347
There's no record of Western Digital ever making a WD10JQLX model. (stores selling fakes doesnt count)

What do you make of that?

Yeah I think I found more data right before your post, it may be real. frick. I need a cheap drive for dualbooting cleanly.

The low hour ones in that store are cheaper btw

Depends what you do. I for now compressed my entire movie database into AV1 which saves about 50-60 % storage. This way I could avoid buying a 20 TB HDD or similar. Its so good that I think of buying a 8 TB SSD whenever I find such cheap enough, unfortunately the 870 QVO skyrocketed and now you could buy a Lexar NVMe 8 TB for similar price.
>>106956098
I don't care much as they are 24/7 powered anyway.
>>106958458
I bought a used 6 TB for 60 €. Now i somewhat regret selling my 6 TB Ironwolf but it got me over 100 €.
>>
>>106959291
I wonder the same, in 2017 there were 4x4 GB DDR4 for just 35 € new, months later similar kits cost almost 200. I didn't have much money at the time but now I could afford going crazy.

AM4 already got 32 full sticks, my AM5 has 2 x 32 but 128 would be pricy and likely not run well if at all, my server has 2 x 32 so I wonder if I should try to get at least 2 x 16 extra when I can get such for 15 € per 16 GB. Big modules tend to cost more. I don't 'need' the RAM, but it would come handy if prices really increase that I can make profit by downgrading.
>>
i jumped into raid arrays lately its neat, next is to step into clusterfs's like gluster/orangefs (basicly networked raid)
>>
A Seagate 1TB HDD I bought 5 years ago
