So to the guy at the top of the thread, and anyone else who wonders "Why bother!?" here is my answer to you.

Back when VCR was introduced, and people started recording whatever they wanted, this same conversation happened. A lot of normalfags thought it was weird that anyone would ever want to record anything besides the end of a football game. Over time DVR replaced VCR and it became proprietary, because it turned out that anyone with a stack of tapes could easily accumulate entire seasons of TV shows or whole movies with minimal effort. They did this to curb piracy, and it sort of worked... Except people liked the freedom of VCR, and most people could not give less of a fuck about DVR since it's inherently limited.

Those format wars are happening right now with Youtube. We have proof now that the platform is fucking with videos almost immediately after they're uploaded. With small channels, it will throttle the connection, and with large channels, it will bitstarve them. Now you might say, how does this relate to piracy? Because up until literally a few weeks ago, YT Premium uploads could be acquired due to an oversight with the iOS client. They removed that, and now they're tightening up their protection, because they do not under any circumstances want you to have access to high quality videos. So now if you want to actually see a decent-looking video you have to give YT money, and seemingly no one has a problem with this when it is possibly the most disgusting and anti-consumer thing ever committed. I mean that, too. Paying for pixels that were deliberately taken out of the video!

It does not matter what the content is or how it's acquired. What matters is that there are constant, day-in and day-out efforts from greedy corporations to hook you into their enshittified ecosystem, and they will waste time fighting pirates who legitimately care more about these stupid ass videos than they do.
