The only difference between then and now is that now they're cutting boring, nondescript shapes out of boring, nondescript materials instead of cutting them out of solid-colored blocks.
I'm glad flat design is dying but liquid glass is pretty shit. Hopefully in a few years once they realise the UI is unreadable it looks good.

In my mind it would be good to enmesh the two somehow, like have one of the letters resemble something related to what you do, e.g. the letter O resembling a snowflake if you're selling fridges.I suppose there's good reasons for not doing that.
