I'm tech illiterateIf I keep win 10, should I dl an antivirus? Will it make a difference? If so, what is the least shit and bloated one out there?Hell, id probably revert back to win xp and win 7 if most of my apps worked on there and if I knew what I was doingPirated shit for many years with just using basic windows defender, never had any problemsShould I just go to linux? I don't want it, but I don't want win 11 even more
>I'm tech illiterateThen what are you doing on the technology board? Go back to facebook.>Should I just go to linux? I don't want itNobody cares what you want. You're afraid of Win 11 telemetry but have been using the Win 10 botnet for years. You're the perfect cattle user, just stay in your pen and don't bother us with your problems.
Just turn off the Internet... forever... you will be safe
>>106973060You use 11 don't ya, you stupid fucking consumer whore?
>>106973077Your response is a fascinatingly primitive example of technological tribalism. The assumption that one's choice of operating system constitutes a meaningful signifier of anti consumerist purity is frankly laughable. You project your own insecurities onto a superficial decision, creating a binary worldview where you are the enlightened apostate and the other is a "consumer whore". The functional delta in telemetry and user control between a moderately hardened Win10 instance and Win11 is negligible for the median user's threat model. You're simply screaming from a slightly older, more familiar cage, utterly convinced of your own intellectual superiority. It's pathetic.

You should work on becoming tech literate. Any proper, full answer to your questions would seem too complex to you.Try out Linux on a separate machine—preferably Fedora or Mint for your first time—and keep Windows 10 on your main PC.
>>106973025>Pirated shit for many years with just using basic windows defender, never had any problemsthats because defender cant find the malware and cryptominers found in a lot of pirated stuff.just because it says your clean doesnt mean you are.
>>106973025good free AV doesnt exist.you're gonna have to suck it up and get something like Nortons or Malwarebytes, both a are bloated and intrusive but they'll protect your vulnerable Windows 10 better than it currently is
>>106973060>>106973130jfc, figures id get schizo posts here...
>>106973025Antivirus isn't a thing you need anymore.Your firewall will protect you from attacks. Common sense will protect you from anything else.

>>106973228You instigated it plus your OP was too boring. This is a >>>/sqt/ question anyways.>>106973025>If I keep win 10, should I dl an antivirus? Will it make a difference? If so, what is the least shit and bloated one out there?Being smart is enough. All windows support being off means practically is you cannot sue them if windows break/developers stop porting their stuff over.I am using windows 10, and I will keep doing it until I have to change. I would use linux but I like vidya and producing too much
i've been using windows 11 IoT Enterprise LTSC for a whole week now and I have to say that it's been a good experience but I'm still contemplating on installing Linux
>>106973130Very mean and way, way too eloquent and formal for /g/ standards but you are correct. For most users, besides the hassle of jumping a new OS, windows 10 is just another coat of shit as windows 11. I use both: 11 at work and 10 at home. They're practically the same UX, same UI, except for a couple of dumb tweaks (and admittingly windows + z shortcut). If you want to truly be secure/own your OS, you need to switch to a non-windows/apple base product.>>106975269For most people there is no point in installing linux. Privacy and shifting dependencies away from mega-corperations is an act of virtue, not of convivence. If you are willing to learn (and actually learn, not install it, get burned out and leave) sure try linux. I did and enjoy it very much. But if your computer is a photoshop or game bootloader, you are simply ruining your experience going to linux. Still if you do want to stay away from windows, I think it's the right call.
>>106973025>I'm tech illiterateThis is like saying you didn't know how to read in the 1950s.>antivirusNo. They are more or less just malware that jealously guards its ability to sell your data and mine cryptocurrency from other malware. Sometimes they'll even try to stop you from using programs they just don't like.>should I go to Linux?Yes. Win10 will be usable long after it stops receiving updates provided a manor exploit isn't found, but compatibility will be an issue. There's also the risk that, like they did when w10 released, Microsoft will give you a "free" "upgrade" and you'll wake up one day and check the computer and see the dreaded home menu in the center of your taskbar.Linux isn't perfect, but it's a computer that will broadly speaking do what you want it to do rather than a platform for data harvesting, surveillance, advertising, and psychological experimentation like Mac and windows.
