New Linux user here, is it my imagination, or is the quality of audio on linux really lower than on windows?

I use the same headset and the audio the microphone produces when I speak is really terrible

is this a thing? any solutions other than using windows?
>>
Bluetooth, right? It's because the headset isn't connecting in the right bluetooth mode. It's fixable I think, but there's your problem. I don't know how to fix it desu since it works fine on my system if I just reconnect.
>>
you're using a sound abstraction layer like pipewire or pulseaudio
uninstall that and use alsa directly
>>
>>106974796
no, i use wired headsets, I have both the jabra engage 50 II and the poly blackwire 3325

both sound very ok on windows, but very in consistent, far away and analog sounding on debian

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you’re referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX. Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called “Linux”, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project. There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine’s resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called “Linux” distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

on my system, my headphones through my ampare using 48k hz on linux and 96k hz on windows. i could fuck with the settings if i wanted to but i don't actually notice any difference

My apologies Mr. Stallman. What I meant to say is that GNU/Linux is a broken pile of shit that can't even play audio correctly OOTB.
>>
Install gentoo

it's a mixed bag with audio device support, on a surface they are all usb class devices so you'd think that there's no problem, but it then turns out that manufacturers do some shenanigans on the hardware side and the driver on windows works around that
I remember my old motherboard onboard audio just constantly crackled and stuttered and the microphone connected to it sounded like wet farts
do you use onboard or external on usb?
if onboard then it's very likely that the poverty tier chips they put on them are sometimes less supported than others
>>
>>106974765
>is the quality of audio on linux really lower than on windows?
depends on the driver on linux and windows. and other crap in the audio pipeline. in my case, it's the opposite.
>>
>>106974932
Not sure about all that, I bought this laptop

https://novacustom.com/product/v54-series/

If you click on specifications tab i dont see a mention of motherboard
>>
>>106974765
Ditch poetteringshit and use pipewire or ALSA instead. Audio on my machines is fucking amazing. Sounds like a (You) problem, pun intended.

yeah if it's an laptop then you are running an integrated chip onboard
try buying a cheap usb dac and see if it makes a difference, make sure it has that microphone input
>>
>>106975023
>pipewire
designed for use with systemd and a load of other corporate shitware
>>
>>106974765
I use a dedicated sound card and ALSA and audio sounds the same on both Windows and Linux.
>>
I had the microphone and webcam removed as a privacy option.

Is it linked or not linked to a plugin usb headset?
>>
>>106975063
Wow interesting, I run it perfectly fine on two separate distros with two different init systems, neither of which are basedstemd, and neither of which use corporate shitware. Any other nonsense you'd like to enlighten us with today, Anon?

ya got me janny, fucking troons
>>
Can you do professional grade audio recording on linux
>>
>>106974765
wait what
its usually the opposite
>>
>>106975247
>No you don't hecking understand, I spent an hour configuring my setup to avoid using redhat garbage! That completely changes the design philosophy and intention of the program!
Just suck IBM's cock already you tease
>>
>>106975573
>No you don't hecking understand, I'm too retarded to write a two line shell script to start the program on boot, I NEED søystemd to do it for me or else I literally cannot get it to work!
Back to Windows 11 with you.

Imagine the guy who originally and unironically wrote that he probably looks like pic related or the nerd emoji and you better believe he's got the most wild and racist takes you'll ever hear in your life lmao
>>
>>106974863
Richard Stallman is genuinely a baller for living like a 21st century Diogenes I got a lotta respect for that fat old jew
>>
>>106974882
Yuh but you can fix the shit yourself just google "bad audio drivers [whatever linux distro you use]" I dunno man freedom can be cringe and bumpy but at least it's freedom
>>
>>106975842
The guy who wrote it is the pic in the post you replied to dumbass
>>
>>106974864
use case for 96Khz?
>>
>>106974813
what kind of nigger advice is that? anons don't do this
>>
>>106976082
If you're gonna insult someone else, at least learn how to write.
>>
>>106974765
I uninstalled pulseaudio which was the default on my distro and replaced it with pipewire. Now everything just works. Can finally connect BT easily, pw-pulse runs all the apps (browser, media players) and pw-jack for working in a DAW.
>>
>>106974863
>What you’re referring to as Linux, or in fact, GNU/Linux is pure cancer
>>
>>106974765
yeah there's probably some technology that linux stubs out since it working is usually good enough for them.
You will find a lot of unpolished stuff in linux, I recommend using windows 7 instead
>>
>>106975842
>>106976186
>looks like this
>racist takes
I love how you faggots try to push your agenda here with subtle nudges like this.
Your pic is literally the average liberal numale, but you still try to somehow associate it with heckin racism to make it uncool or whatever, while having no idea what you're talking about, as other anon pointed out. Then you defaulted to being what you tried to describe with your pic and "nerd emoji"
>UHHHH ACTUALLY THERE'S A GRAMMATICAL MISTAKE IN YOUR POST
Faggot
