Since youtube shorts and ADHD slop bullshit is a hot topic nowadays, I notice the same trend with chatrooms and even communication. Discord is the worst offender of this with how its now the new "community hub" for a lot of fandoms and fanbases, but you are forced to try and be in a conversation with 50 people talking over eachother at high speeds. Unfortunately this is the most popular thing now. With forums, you can at least take your time to read posts and put together thought out responses, but some communities have completely abandoned forums in favor of this high speed bullshit.
enshitification is the word that describes what you are talking about. discord has always been this way and hight traffic irc was pretty chaotic as well. discord, teamspeak and other chats are mainly for small friend groups or private 1 on 1s. people just made high cap servers and retards filled them because some information on whatever interests you is on "official" discord servers. on the flip side, reddit has the right idea with hobby forums in one place but the absolute worst attention seeking behavior is encouraged. it's the reason why any of us are in this shit hole but it's much harder to find good info across threads and boards. old style forums simply don't have enough traffic anymore because of social media takeover in general but even back then it was very slow to see replies in niche interests.tldr, there is no perfect template for online communication
>>106977249discord SUCKS COCKit's got less fucking post persistence than twittereverything just scrolls out of view into a pit of doom in a few seconds or minutes tops, the website is so fucking assGOOOD LORD I FUCKING MISS FORUMS, reddit fucking ruined everythingCan't have an interesting comment section on reddit because it's sorted by updoots, so of course the most common/agreed on opinions will always get the most upboots just because the most people agree with them, literally who the fuck thought it a good idea to sort discussion by votes? what the fuck??and yet nearly all the communities moved to fucking reddit and now also discordAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH FUUUUCK FUCK FUCK WHY CANT WE HAVE FORUMS
>>106978440You're on a forum right now dumbass
>>106977249you could find smaller servers. also chatrooms in the 90s/00s were people just talking over each other. that's how it works
>>106978791bro you know what I mean, an old-school type forum specialize on one interest/niche/field, with forum-specific accounts and a community of people, with persistent threads that could last for days, weeks, months or even yearsbut I do agree that (not counting some potentially still active forums) 4chan is the last most forum-like website we have, with no recommendation/feed algorithm (to my knowledge) and updoots ruining everything, so I'm EXTREMELY thankful for that
I have always been fascinated how people unironically use Discord and just stick with it. At this point all the water in the pot has evaporated years ago and the users are a piece of frog charcoal.
it's not discord's fault that you engage in such communities. I've joined about 30 servers but only ever use two because they're comfy, share my sense of humor or interest and do not spam every channel with retarded tiktok doomscroll slop. If you chat with literal kids and manchildren that's your own fault man. Out of all social media platforms discord is one I can hate the least, though ofc I'd prefer if foss alternatives were more popular and functional because big file uploads and high quality streams being exclusive to a paywall is so gay and typical.
>>106977249this in an especially good point from a thread im reading about the superiority of traditional forums
>>106977249I use signal and xmpp. I even got my gf to use it.
>>106979045Reddjt has trouble building repeated interactions as well. There is no bumping, threads die even faster than they do on 4chan, little chance remains for people to get to know each other. Lack of gatekeeping means retards and children can join in at any moment. Threads are split into a bunch of unrelated branches too which stops those people from talking to each other as much.
>>106977249People that post on forums and shit announcing a thing they made or an answer to a question and then proceed to link to their discord to get the actual content are absolute cancer.I will not ever use that trannycord spyware garbage.
