They also updated Gimp and now if I merge down to one layer and copy all it gives me this shit rather than the properly cropped version (where it increases image size to fit all layers perfectly and adds padding to do so). Cropping doesn't do shit unless you export the file. Why the fuck would you do this?
Are there any decent kitchen knives on aliex?I believe I had seen something somewhere
>>106981673Yes but I can't spoonfeed you because the listings change all the time, so what worked for me won't necessarily work for you.Read the guide and the /ck/ guide linked in it to get some basics about knife stuff if you don't know those already, then look for one of the decent factories selling VG10 damascus steel (which means vg10 core with a cheaper cladding). Outperforms expensive german knives for a fraction of the price.

> >>106962591 - Yihua 929DV desoldering iron reviewI had a similar one and it almost killed me.The insulation inside it failed and the tip became live at mains voltage and when I was desoldering a ground pin I also touched parts of the ground plane at the edge of the PCB, getting a shock big enough to trigger my GFCI - I'd be dead if my room's circuit wasn't protected by one.Never get an ungrounded mains iron.

Does anyone here own this monitor? If so, how is it for a Mini Led panel?https://us.ktcplay.com/products/27-inch-180hz-hdr1400-miniled-gaming-monitor
Has anyone ever bought the tiny thinkpad clone looking laptops from Ali? Having a tiny 7” laptop sounds comfy for my electronics workstation to not take up much space but be useful for having docs pulled up or run super basic windows programs. Are any of them actually good? I know GPD makes nice ones but those are like 800$ and there’s cheaper ones for like 250-350$
>>106982723I haven't tried these specific ones, but you should really consider if 7" is enough (inb4 it's above average).I find 10" to be the sweet spot for portability while remaining useful to work with, and even there the keyboard will get cramped. If it just works as a terminal that's SSHed into a server, fair enough, but I think you'll really appreciate the additional screen real estate for docs and schematics. Sadly for tablets in that range your options are usually android or overpriced x86 laptops with shitty battery life (though I suppose that won't matter if you keep it plugged in). Still waiting for that ARM tablet that has native linux support or at least makes flashing linux onto it easy while not costing 3 times what it should.
>>106981749gracias familia
>>106982788Gotcha, what laptop are you using now? I’m not set on 7” specifically, I just want a mini laptop to keep on my workbench or throw in a bag to take with me. I do think the tiny ones look cute but I wondered about the usability of them
Do coins make a big difference? I hate sm*rtphones and do everything on my computer, but it seems you're penalized for doing that?
>>106982863I use a 14" Lenovo laptop as my "main" laptop for actual work. For documentation, notes (obsidian) and ssh sessions I use a Xiaomi Mi Pad 6 which is 10". It's a great size for when being more compact (and lightweight) matters. It's thin, small and light.I always recommend to relatives to measure out the relevant sizes (7", 10", 14", whatever you're considering) and mark them on a piece of paper. I find just a screen diagonal to be too abstract, when you really see the size as a mockup you get a feel for what you do and don't need. 7" might be enough for example for a PDF if you either use it vertically or are willing to scroll more; if you want to be able to see larger circuits or maybe have one half of the screen for notes (obsidian) and the other for the PDF, then it's borderline too small. All depends on your usecase.>>106982889Not really in most purchases, it's like a 1-2% flat discounts usually. But if you seek out coin discounts and try to maximize them you can save a lot with them (though about half of those "savings" are fake as those listings are often overpriced to suggest larger coin discounts than they really offer).Sadly the aliexpress app is just plain better than on the computer; search works, the different store pages like bundles etc are easier to navigate, most of the discounts etc. come from the app too. But it will schlurp your data in exchange for that.
>>106980131ALX does Black Friday?
>>106982982Has started doing it a few years ago. Unlike the anon you are responding to if you don't use cashback it's usually basically just a longer lasting 11.11 as it starts just after that ends. Worth if you have 1 time coupons as they refresh, but that's about it.
>>106982889>>106982925Realistically speaking, what can AliExpress even do with those permissions? The fun things are usually done with location info (too lazy to search it, but there was a fun talk at CCC last year where they got some location data set (as a free sample, afaik) and looked for folks that are often at various political buildings in Berlin and a know brothel…) and that is always from some apps that ask you for it, AliExpress doesn’t even do that. Camera and photos is a risk, true, but if apples safety functions are fucked, AliExpress is the least of my concerns. Plus, they already got my address and know that Anon Anonberg, living at Anal Alley 666 in Fucking, Bavaria is regularly ordering buttplugs, so Chang already got me by my balls (which brings me great pleasure).
>>106983741Now with picture. And to not waste a post:I’m probably gonna skip 1111. If the trend from the last years is gonna continue, it’s not gonna be worth it, if you’re not a thirdy (or neet) whose time is worthless. I’ll monitor if AliExpress is gonna change their mind, but I don’t have high expectations.

>>106982592You're in very strange luck. I have that exact one. Your luck runs out when I tell you I know nothing about monitors. Any questions I can answer though. It's good. There's some ghosting but that comes from being a VA panel. I wouldn't say it's majorly noticeable. Blacks are black, there's a local dimming option but the higher you set it the dimmer the entire screen gets so sometimes I just have it off anyway.
>>106979996>>106982191>>106981200thank you anonsi forgot to mention I am a complete cheapass however and those are out of budget. I was hoping for $70 at an asbolute maximum. If I say screw Google Play books, where else would I keep my book library so that it can be synced with my phone and with my ebook reader? I like Play books because I can highlight words and it'll come up with the definition immediately.

>>106984904>I was hoping for $70 at an asbolute maximumThat'll likely lock you to kindles.>I'm wondering what the easy alternative is to keep the sync but lose the googThe easiest one that came to mind for me is Calibre and Kindle. To sync to you phone syncthing.Free and you are in full control of your data, plus no self-hosting required. But it'll only sync if both instances of syncthing are running and in the same local network, so still a pretty hacky workaround. If self-hosting is an option you can either run a sync method like nextcloud or just straight up host your calibre libary to the net such that you can access it anywhere. But that's a fairly technically demanding approach. The best idea I can come up with is to just create your calibre library in your google drive and you got it both on there for easy access on your phone and on your kindle. But even that's not ideal.
>>106984904>>106985053Get a used/refurbished Kobo and figure out how to use KOReader on your phone, then use Calibre to sync your books to the both of them. The only problem is that I don't think Calibre syncs your reading progress if that's important to you?>I like Play books because I can highlight words and it'll come up with the definition immediately.Any decent ereader/book app will do that.
>>106982723>thinkpad clone looking laptopsnever seen these, link/pic?Unless you are talking about the Pocket 386 laptops?
>>106984905>most of europe uses 2-prong type cUh, No?Most of Europe uses Schuko type F. What you are refering as type C is the old Europlug, and while it can be used in schuko plugs, it's currently only sold on on devices with a double insulation logo on them (square within a square logo, like a small tv that has its shell made from plastic) (or chink shit that wants to kill you). No certification body in the EU will allow your new device to pass its certification, and be sold, if it has exposed metal pieces and is using an europlug.
>>106985145>Any decent ereader/book app will do that.So this is stupid but they don'tSee, on Google Play books, just highlighting the word will bring up the definitionOn the other readers, you have to highlight and then click "define", for example. It's minor but enough to where I took to GPlay books.>>106985100>>106985145Syncing my reading progress is important, so it's a shame Calibre can't do that. Sometimes I like reading on my phone, sometimes a laptop, etc. I have a NAS so I don't mind keeping book files there but I'm a bit shit in knowing how to actually configure that NAS. It just seems weird there isn't a more seamless option out there than actually relying on Google. It's handy to just be able to pick up where you left off on any device as long as it has access to GPlay Books. Is Amazon's Kindle app any good if I bought a Kindle? I know you can upload your own files to them but it's a bit painful to do Thanks for the help.
>>106985335>It just seems weird there isn't a more seamless option out there than actually relying on GoogleI mean you can use the kindle app as you said, but then you just switched from one bad option (google) to another (amazon). My books are all DRM free so I personally wouldn't use either. That being said normie relatives who do not mind embracing the ecosystem seem happy with the integration of kindle and the app. Maybe another anon can chime in who has a bit less of a normie mindset to explain if it's worthwhile.
>>106985366>My books are all DRM free so I personally wouldn't use either.Mine are too, I keep local copies of them allI just upload them separately to GPlay for that convenience. If Kindle works OK I don't mind switching just for the sake of being able to use a Kindle device, but I don't know how seamless Kindle is on PC and non Amazon devices, and if uploading your own files is a pain in the ass as it iseems. I know Kindle doesn't take .epub, and most of my books are .epub so I'd have to convert them all. Don't mind so much but eh still annoying because often it still results in formatting issues
>>106985335I've always found it weird that Calibre doesn't support reading sync, maybe I've missed something super simple though?
>>106985385>but I don't know how seamless Kindle is on PC and non Amazon devicesWith calibre? Pretty seamless. Without? A big pain in the ass.>and if uploading your own files is a pain in the ass as it iseemsLocal upload with a cable is trivially easy with calibre, just press "upload" and it sends it, sets up the folders etc.>I know Kindle doesn't take .epub, and most of my books are .epub so I'd have to convert them all.Again, calibre does that automatically. You can also send files to your kindle via email iirc, but my kindle has been in airplane mode since the day I got it so I can't speak to how well that feature works.
