>/g/ and countless tech blogs, podcasts, youtube channels shill dozens of Linux distros all the time to replace Windows>yet most people end up using Linux Mint for replacing Windows on an old PCWhy?
>>106981619It works and the UI is not designed for use on a touchscreen.
>>106981619Name another distro normies who barely understood Windows would enjoy using that also has large compatibility with shit teir laptops AND doesn't look like windows 98
It's just reasonably close to windows UI wise and it's reasonably polished. Personally I'd recommend Xubuntu but either is fine. Kubuntu as well maybe.
It comes with a desktop environment that looks familiar to windows right out the box to ease people in
>>106981619>Why?Because it has "Linux" in the name instead of UMBANGO or FAYDORA or GANTOO or CACHEEOS
>>106981619Entry-level distro with a graphic installer, and it's basically everything windows should be
>>106981647Zorin
>>106981619Mint good
>>106981839I'm sure it's a fine distro but the name is weird and that is half the battle. Linux Mint is a very simple yet powerful name. Think about it.
>>106981647>welp this <distro> is trash because the sudden influx of people who are tired of Winslop constantly fucking up>welp this <distro> is trash due to some reason I just made up in my headYou faggots are insufferable, you know that right?
>>106981855It sounds find. Zorin is like mint but it doesn't look like it was made 30 years ago
>>106981886Clearly you didn't think about it enough.
every distro I try has no fucking thumbnails in the file chooser. fuck gnome, ebussy or whoever is responsible for this shit
Ubuntu without snaps
>>106981904gnome is responsible, they were paid off by microsoft. they hold gtk in ransom like its gnome toolkit not GIMP toolkit
>>106981619my grandma likes itthat alone would probably explain why because it's friendly to the tech illiterate
>>106981619Best for games according to grok
>>106981904>thumbnails in the file chooser.the thumbnails in Mint suck ass.way too small and not possible to make them bigger for some reason.
>>106982040the reason why I went for it.
and FDE
>>106982040>downstream of Ubuntu>when Bazzite existscouldn't be less true of any distro except for like debian stable
>>106982213works on my machine
>>106981619Because it just works
>>106981619it just werks and doesn't use 900 extra gb of ram to struggle to do anything like ubuntu and its derivatives do, and doesnt require 900 years of your life to learn how to install a driver like every other distro series does
>>106981619Looks similar to windows, usually just werks, has a large enough community and history to be somewhat trustworthy in the long term, doesn't have retarded branding.
>>106981619it used in academia for teaching linux fundamentals since its closest to windows in appearance and it just works
>>106981619Linux Mint is the only non meme Linux distro.Wrote this comment on Linux Mint by the way.
>>106981619It's not. In DW it's been superceded by CachyOS. Also MX is better.
I switched from Windows about three years ago and went with Ubuntu because there's lots of online help for it. Slowly I began to realise that the reason there's so much online help for it is because it's fucking awful and people constantly need help with it breaking. Also the default DE is so bad it blows my fucking mind. A month or so ago I hopped to a fresh Mint install and holy fuck the random small shit you can do that Ubuntu wouldn't let you do. I can right click my desktop and make text files instead of opening a terminal and using touch. I can right click my desktop and make fucking links to things holy shit. When I install a Steam game and run it the first time I can just double click it instead of having to right click and set as executable. So many small things that didn't make sense on Ubuntu just make sense on Mint.Chances are most distros don't have these issues either so I'm sorta just ragging on Ubuntu here but Mint has been great so far. The only issue I've run into is if I AFK long enough it'll sign me out, then when I sign back in I'll have a black screen with a cursor on it.
>>106981619Slow to update, rarely breaks.Looks like Windows used to.Not difficult to understand.
>>106981886Also doesn't zorin ask for a donation before downloading?>shit nigga i thot dis shit wuz free
i puted it on my laptop real quick for to use as a router to do monitor of the win 11 install
>>106981619>Designed for people who do not know how to do anything themself>Tries to look like windows but pretend it is not doing so>Bets on mob mentality praising it even if it is not worthy of praiseSimply put it is designed for very stupid people coming from Windows. It's users will try to hide it and mask it by saying things like:>i want stability>i want to not use terminal>i want not to configure txt filesand similar excuses even tough there str many distro which are not meant for morons and meet all those things except they are NOT designed for idiots.>tl;drstupid people love stupid things

>>106981619mint ive found works on most hardware ive tried it oni cant say the same for pretty much any other distroi dont even use mint myself i just put it on computers i refurb and resell
>>106983137Nice job of dodging the question
>>106983137>he can't name a distro
>>106981619as good as ubuntu without the snap autism and also not as heavy feeling as gnome
>>106983146>>106983159For you to I can name Mint. Or better yet, Ubuntu, cuz why not, you're already using it with Mint, go straight to source.Anything else would overwhelm you mind and make you puke incoherent babble with 0 truth or logic behind it.For examp0le, if I've said use Arch, with let's say EndeavourOS as it IS stable, does not require terminal or manuel configs you would go in the full retard mode and say the following:<insert you reply>
>>106981856The Linux community is it's own worst enemy.
>>106983226Ah yes let me use a tablet DE on a desktop gaming pc
>>106981619Its not. You're just an idiot who falls for anything e-celebs tell you.
>>106983137Not a mint user, name the distro
><insert you reply>>>106983239>Ah yes let me use a tablet DE on a desktop gaming pcCase in point- a complete retard who has no idea wtf is DE, tablet or a gaming PC.Just stay on Mint and this should be screenshot and placed on Mint websites so your buddy brainlets will flock to it more.to be really honest, Linux does not need you, you should have stayed on windows>>106983256>>106983226
>>106981855I'm sure normies will love a distro named after a James Bond villain
>>106983259I use Arch with Xfce, I do know how to install a desktop environment. Using ubuntu over mint has no advantages, only disadvantages.
>>106981619Looks like windowsDoesn't immediately sperg out and break if you install steamThat's IT Can you believe every single other linux distro is totally incapable of this
>>106981839nobody is paying for linux lol
>>106981619Because it's good? Why are you such a stupid retarded tranny?
>>106981904That was fixed almost 3 years ago, you need new material https://www.omglinux.com/gnome-thumbnails-file-picker/
>>106983259>to be really honest, Linux does not need you, you should have stayed on windowsYou stupid fuck. Do you think people who start using Mint give a shit about Linux "needing them"? they do it because Microsoft is slowly making their OS a malvertisement filled ChatGPT with updates that break the device half the time.People install Mint or other derivatives as a last resort not so they can become a part of your culture.
>>106981619>just works>looks like windows out of the box>extremely helpful little tutorial window with a few steps to back up your system regularly and a nudge to use to software center if you aren't comfy using the terminal>fully GUI based system settingsIts just great, extremely stable with support for older kernels for a long time which gives people that stability and longer term use that windows lacks utterly.Gaming, office work, mint does it flawlessly
>>106981647>doesn't look like windows 98Am I the only one who prefers the windows 98 style over modern ui? Windows 98 was peak function over form.
>>106981619My boomer family can use it without issue
