>Maybe listening to hours upon hours of music that happens to be labeled 'fruitiger aero' will help me truly feel immersed in the "old internet"!

if they're so nostalgic for the old internet, why don't they actually do the things that made it good?
>>
>>106987380
They say this but 99% of them will never use Web 1.0 styled pages like neocities
>>
>>106987490
I just visited some old occult tripod and geocities sites I used to frequent. Made my embarrassed about my past self, how did I ever fell for them.
>>

99% of "bring back old internet" spend their days on short form social media and couldn't last with the feeling of needing to get home to talk to your friends. commodity is a virus

commodity took over what made the "old internet" good, the effort for example.most of it is probably a HUGE cope of mine since i didn't really use MSN (late zoomer), but oh god i have such a love for this aero/skeuomorphic era of design philosophy and internet community.

anyways, here's my desktop. i was thinking about making a blog to post minecraft screenshots there since me and a close friend of mine are doing an "internet detox" (moving off discord was the biggest change) :)

What a shitload of fuck nitpicking. It is literally just about the style, the mood the aesthetic. Windows 98 sure looks appealing but no one misses the 3mins long booting time, the 2mins long game loading time etc. WMP sure was cool in Win7 but no one misses fucking codecs and shit. Most forums and blogsites died because they were slow and dead. Aero and y2k are style phenomenons. It's also not just about tech anymore but trends.

He's right.
I had similar experiences, but to a different subject. And it's not just zoomers either.
Normies are so immersed in their corpo world that mentioning the underlying problem either triggers delusional confusion (older normies) or anger out of cognitive dissonance (zoomers).
It is gen X, the people who remember newsgroups, who are facebook addicted. It is millenials who are on reddit and twitter.

Everybody agrees that when google does bad things again, that this is bad. Same with facebook, everybody knows it's shit. Discord? Only the tranniest trannies don't hate it.
Microsoft putting ads in your start menu, forcing OneDrive and accounts? I don't know a single person who likes that.
>lets fix youtube with a dozen extensions
>noo, Microsoft needs to rollback this change
>this recent discord change is dooodooo
>put a clippy into your pfp
They are free to take off the corpo shackles. They just don't want to.
>>
>>106987380
they can't lol, they don't know how - zoomers are not capable of choosing principle over convenience when it comes to "consumption". even the recent uptick in cd sales is performative
>>
>>106987380
>omg guys remember windows vista???? the old internet was epic win holds up spork XDDDD
>discord icon in the taskbar
That zoomer's post is horrible but also you really need to go back

no one uses the web outside of a walled garden of like 2 or 3 websites anymore

>>lets fix youtube with a dozen extensions
while there are alternatives all of them are more like circlejerks than actual sites because youtube is simply too big to fail and extensions (personally i recommend v3 even to those not feeling nostalgic because it is just that good by itself) or alternative frontends are a great way to salvage such a horrific site
>>noo, Microsoft needs to rollback this change
this i agree, people should stop subjecting themselves to microshit and switch to linux, additional benefit is that it's very much customizable, enough so to recreate the very things the frutiger or oh so y2k people romanticize (be it aerothemeplasma, xfce-winxp-tc or ice2k.sys, the world's your oyster)
>>this recent discord change is dooodooo
as much as i wish to get off discord, i want everyone else to follow me to another platform, the problem is that they refuse, it is as you say, they don't want to take off the corpo shackles and as such this is why im on discord
>>put a clippy into your pfp
by the looks of recent developments louis rossman (the dude behind the movement) has been planning something big and i am all for it, i have fair reason to assume the clippy thing was just ground works so his plans surface in the loudest way possible (i.e. the consumer rights wiki or the fulu thingedy)
>>
>>106987380
'Frutiger Aero" is young people pretending to be nostalgic for a past they never experienced and that never even happened.
>>
>>106987885
judging by the apps on your desktop (minecraft and a couple of what i assume to be steam games, soulseek and spotify for some reason) i don't think you'll have any issue using a linux distro with kde and aerothemeplasma installed, trust me, try that shit out, you wont regret it
>>
>>106992775
i've switched back and forth from mint to windows the last couple of months and i've been really indecisive... i might try it not gonna lie :)

And tell me anon, how will you bring back the look and teel of old YouTube... when every old video has been removed?
>>
>>106992736
that's Y2K for me. though it's less about the 90s for me and more about "the 00s without 9/11"
