What is the /g/ experience with these two distros in relation to being used as a groundfloor for a vm box. I was planning on using virt-manager for the VMs. Any other distros are welcome as long as they are systemd-free.

aptitude is garbage. xbps is one of like 3 good package managers in existence. easy choice.
>>
>>106988338
void's maintainers run on fumes though
just pick gentoo with binpkgs instead and have waaay better support for everything

>/g/ experiences
devuan never booted on my hardware, very unfortunate, because i imagine debian without system d a interesting proposal.
used void for some weeks, xbps is amazing; fast and modular, the iso come lacking many stuff.
go for void.

i don't like the reliance on openrc desu. i know i can run another init system, but you run into problems with binpkgs and still have to keep openrc around no matter what on top of that. i'd rather just use kiss at that point.

just werks

almost but not quite just werks
>>

devuan was an easy choice for me for two reasons
>I'm permanently deb brained
>it's not rolling release
>>
>>106988338
Sadly neither distributions have binaries that are compiled with LTO, PBO or support for AVX 1/2.
This means throwing away lots of otherwise free performance (on average 40%) on any processor made after 2015.
I'm still looking for something like CachyOS without systemd.

so gentoo without systemd?

I don't want to compile shit myself all day, sorry.

Used to use both. devuan is just your average debian but without systemd, so just dictated by trannies. Void is like an alter-ego of arch and is maintained by german trannies who are also failed BBC sluts. Just use Ubuntu as a VM distro and dont overthink it.
>>
>>106993545
ubuntu has systemd which is a deal breaker for both OP and me
>>
>>106995577
obsessing about parts of your OS is one of the main reasons linux will never, ever become a considerable choice for anyone who is not a terminally online tranny or IT bro.

This and very unironically.

For what? Trying to roll your own Qubes or something? There might be choices that are already suited to what you want. Like Proxmox or something
>>
>>106988338
They both just work. Neither have good selections of software in their respective repos. I like the way Void is arranged better but I have no faith that the maintainers won't destroy everything in troonish hysteria, so I use Devuan. If you need a new kernel you'll have to pick Void.
