say something nice to it
a
>>106994381it glows hard. it requires webgl so it can uniquely fingerprint your browser.especially with how cheap it's to rent a vps to setup stalwart or dovecot + postfix.it's 2025 there's no reason not to host your own e-mails.
>>106994481how much do it coss
>>106994381something nice
>>106994534you can get vps at low as $5/mo, you can go lower if you share ips with other vps, which the email supports since ports are arbitrary, down to about $3/mo, then you get a domain for anywhere between $5-$20/year.that ought to support anywhere between 10-100 users. you may be limited by disk size, but that's not expensive.stalwart is literally free and helps you set up everything, from dkim certs, to dns records. it even setups a configuration endpoint for mail clients to get their info.
why choose protonmail over namecrane? Seems to have more features and no unnecessary restriction (unlimited mailboxes and aliases) for $10/year
>>106994481>how cheap it's to rent a vpsWhat email do you use for your webhost account?
>>106994916i use my own self-hosted email.i simply started by buying a domain name, which I pointed to my home router and setup a temporary server to sign up and rent a vps.I use a chinese registrar that lets you buy domain in bulk using their api. they're the cheapest on the market and you can buy domain without verifications and input invalid contact info. this is meant for web hosts to provide an easy and streamlined way to automatically register domain at their user's demand.
>>106994381It's not google and didn't go down with AWS.
>>106994879thats just regular email with no particular privacy or security features, why use it instead of gmail outlook or pissmail?
>>106994381Good for people who think they are safe
>>106994481>rents vps>server owner mines his data
>>106995462Is there actually any room in the email spec for privacy? I can set up PGP encryption myself. Last I heard proton even blocks imap but not sure whether this is true>why that over gmailthey at least claim to not mine my data. I can set up aliases how I like and have no artificial limitsgoogle especially is a pita with how they block imap and smtp in favour of their oauth solution
>>106994381Can someone spoonfeed me on the "security" aspect? Isn't proton open source and they can actually prove their shit?
>not using Tutamail
>>106994381Posteo just werks and I can connect from any mail client
>>106994381>we protect you from using IMAP and SMTP for your own safetybut you receive everything in plaintext>yes, but we are "trustworthy"
>goto website>get greated with this>reset the counteryeah, I think I'll pass
>>106994381i don't like them since they donated 100k to Gaza
>>106994381trash, I remember a few years ago I subscribed there, thought I can use their shit in Thunderbird too, no you have to pay for this service... dropped.
>>106995969jew
>>106994481Dont you need all the email standards to not be dropped.
>>106994381Thank you for being a free email service accepted by my university, bank, and just about everything else I've tried it on. I used up my only phone numbers on silly gmail account names. I've even seen doctors use it for client interactions. I hope it continues getting more normal and doesn't blow up like some other 'private' email services.
>>106996310only dkim, spf and dmarc. but only for sending mails. stalwart automatically set them up for you, you only have to set the corresponding dns records. they're only certs and additional verification that tells other mail server that all mail coming from domain.com must come from a selected list of ips to prevent fraud.
It's one of the rare email services that doesn't rely on another email service when signing up. No joke, you make a hotmail account and I couldn't fucking login to it without using the backup email address to accept MFA tokens. Fuck that noise. Also yes, more people should self host email. It should be normalized that people just host their own email servers and that's how people communicate. Throw one up on a used $20 Pi from ebay and take a backup every week. Setting up all the security things is the easy part. The hard part is keeping your IP out of bad lists. A cheap VPS might also be an option.
>>106996288no. but fuck both Jews and Muslims. also if proton has that kind of Monet lying around why are their products so shitty?
I sure as shit trust Proton more with my data than I do Google or Microsoft. That being said I use Proton products with the unlimited subscription on Android and Windows 11.
>>106996529Tax deductable.
>>106994381It's not google, microsoft, apple.>bonus: they don't force 2fa shenanigans
>>106994381Garbage.
>>106996963so? you still have a net expense
>>106997091>steal cc for use subscribe to proton>deduct itprofit
>>106994381They absolutely destroyed the Android app to the point that it's absolutely unusable. I can't send or upload attachments and the application crashes randomly every single time I use it Ever since they did that stupid interface redesign. I emailed support and they gave me a response that said, due to the massive amounts of error reports we're getting now, we can't respond personally. So this is an automated message. We have no idea when it's going to be fixed.Sucks
>>106997139just use another email clientwhat? they dont have IMAP? their stupid bridge app only works on desktop? LMAO
>>106996529>fuck both Jews and MuslimsJust jews.
>>106997271Ok
