Why do people use laptops instead of desktops? Muh portability, but where do you even go with your laptop? It's inappropriate to take it with you in social situations (not that any of you have any) and inconvenient enough to take out as it provides no use case for lugging it.
>>106998585True
>>106998585>I NEVER GO OUTSIDE SO NONE OF YOU DO EITHER. IM GONNA MAKE THIS THREAD EVEN THOUGHT IVE ALREADY MADE UP MY MIND BECAUSE I LOVE TO SHIT UP THE BOARD
>>106998585Idk I just like it when I lay in bed and use a laptop.
>>106998638First of all this board has been dead for a very long time. Second, where do you go ((outside)) where you have any use for a laptop?>>106998641Even in bed it's inconvenient, tablet is clearly a superior choice.
>>106998585The ergonomics on laptops are dogshit unfortunately. Unless you hook them up to a proper monitor your neck will go sore in five minutues and at that point you might aswell get a desktop PC.
>>106998709I have used 12.5, 13, 14, 15.6, 16 inch laptops and they all suck. The bigger ones are usually very heavy so and bulky so carrying them is not practical, while the small ones provide no performance so for most use cases it's just better to use a phone as the tasks that you can achieve on them is limited. Even if we ignore this, I never feel comfortable looking at the small screen. Maybe I've been spoiled by an ultrawide monitor but staring at a small screen and rubbing that trackpad is very slow and painful. After a while you start getting annoyed and you plug in the keyboard and mouse and eventually you plug in the display in as well. Turning that portable machine into the opposite. The ergonomics are doomed, no matter how you make it, it's always gonna be better to use a fixed screen and a real keyboard and mouse.
train, bus, work from home, to client...
>>106998755>train, busDo people really? Never have I seen anyone use it on a bus, then again, it's been almost a decade since I went anywhere with a bus.>work from home, to clientWork doesn't count, at work you are a slave and you do as you are told, ITT it's about the private usage.
do pcfags not understand the concept of traveling or do they travel with their pc tower in their bags?
>>106998669Fire station, where I code as a sidegig.
>>106998585>Muh portability, but where do you even go with your laptop?Anywhere that is not home.
>>106998585>inconvenient enough to take out as it provides no use case for lugging it.>pull it out of bag>open it up>turn it onSo inconvenient!
>>106998585the fuck do you mean "muh portability"not everyone is a NEET who just sits at their desk all dayIm semi-NEET but I have to move between school, home, other locations I might study, and a family member's house that I stay at a lot and I ditched my desktop for a gaming laptop and its been way more convenient

>>106999076based bed enjoyer. i have a beefy desktop machine as my main pc but keep a macbook air for bed browsing and chillit doesn't have to be one or the other
>>106999021>>fans max out>>90C sitting on your balls>>throttles>>battery diesThere are a lot of things you can do that are not CPU or GPU intensive. In fact, it is likely you aren't doing anything terribly CPU or GPU intensive on your PC right now.>>small screen15" is fine.>>no storageI can upgrade that.>>can't backup storage without network or donglesHow do you back up your desktop storage without network or dongles? Trucker hereMost of us use them, my laptops have been in all 48 states. I have one for gaming I use and one for insane battery life and raw processing power. They have a lot of advantages for someone like me who travels from state to state. If you aren't traveling much, you have no need for these. Yes you could theoretically set up a desktop and have a mobile gaming setup like we did in our LAN party days, a decent laptop will do 90 percent of everything a similarly-equipped desktop would do and it fits in a briefcase and I can set it up in 30 seconds.>>106999021My gaming laptop has survived 5 years and doesn't do any of those things. It has lived long enough for me to have to upgrade soon, but I have too many good memories on it and all the cool shit I did with it so I'll hold onto it a little longer.
>>106998585>where do you even go with your laptop?Uni, the countryside, the bathroom, my bed.
>>106999170based truckerbro, my gaming laptop must be like 8 years now, only upgrade i did was getting more ram and installing linux, works perfectly fine
>>106998585>Use case for going outside?OP...
>>106998585If I travel, I still need to be able to work.Excel, code, IT shit, design, cad files, etc.I can't do those in a tablet, if I tried a bigger tablet that could do that, I'd take a keyboard, and at that point why not just take the laptop. It's not like I take it everywhere with me. It usually sits in the desk working as a hooked up pc. On weekends I take it home, so if anything needs to be done I don't need to go the office. Whenever we travel for work, I also take it and do things. It's not hard to justify a laptop when you're not a neet.
>>106998709Youre doing it wrong, try lying flat on a bed and balance the bottom edge of the laptop between your ribs. Its a game changer
>>107001772
>>106999170Finally, a man that requires a laptop.
>>106998900i travel without a computer, why would i spend time in the shithole called internet when traveling
>>107001873traveling is gay as shit. what did you do, fuck a waiter in france you dumb faggot?
>>106998585Touch grass.
>>106998709>dock it when at home or at the office>use it undocked on the go (literally no practical alternative)Is this a serious complaint?
>>107001873Funny of you to automatically assume using a computer = using the internet.
>>107001908>i spent my time in a hotel room gooning to local models
If you use your computer regularly in different locations, like the vast amount of people who work hybrid and or have multiple homes
Ideally, laptop screens should be detachable, so you can position the sceen on a monitor arm while having full use of the laptops keyboard and multi purpose touchpad
>>106998585I agree with you 100%. Laptops were a mistake. And so are tablets and smartphones.Computing should be a sacred thing (no, really) that should be confined to its own altar, aka the desktop. That way normie sloppers wouldn't ruin it so much.
>>106998755Laptop is slave mentality. Desktop implies dedicated space. Wealth. Property. Ownership. A space for the human to be treated to a superior computing experience.
>>106998585>It's inappropriate to take it with you in social situations (not that any of you have any) >It's inappropriate to take it with you in social situations (not that any of you have any)
>>106998585unit in your literal hands runs on 19V DC thats nice powersupply has two modes one for sockets with ground and other for ones without maybe usb tooput it in backpack it be solid widearea object next to you
other way round the only reason for desktops in 2025 is gamingbut if gaming is an argument for you past age 18 you have bigger problems than PCs
I have one in case power goes out, so I can keep on doing my shit.Embarassingly enough, the power does go out 1-2 times a month.
>>106998585>Laptops are uselessI would say desktops are useless nowadays, I have my MacBook Pro M4 Pro here with a second monitor, I bet my laptop is more powerful than your desktop. and as a bonus I can take it anywhere I want, can you?
>>107001779Thats not lying flat
>>106998585I work from home. Occasionally I need to work from other place, like office, datacenter or kitchen. I can move it anywhere in the house, do anything else besides work and respond immediately if anything happens. I also have a tablet and can use rdp/parsec whatever to connect to the laptop, but for any real work, it's not enough. They are just tools and need to be used appropriately.
>>107002044>but if gaming is an argument for you past age 18 you have bigger problems than PCsExcellent post.
>>107002149What tablet do you have?
>>106998585I used one when I was in uni, for the obvious reason that I needed to take it with me to class. At work they issue laptops so people can take them on business trips or just to meeting rooms and shit. As your home computer they aren't useful, that's true.
