Why haven't you jailbroken your kindle yet?
>>107002878because i have a kindle 2 and I can transfer all my books with calibre just fine
>>107002892Sure, but you have to convert epubs and Amazon can delete your library anytime
post fastfetch
>>107002878I have. I installed koreader, but other than that I haven't found much use for jail breaking
I use it to read books
>>107002898i dont convert anything i just have a bunch of books i torrented that i added to calibre that just syncs to my kindlemy kindle doesn't have an internet connection, so i find it hard to believe they could delete my library
>>107002878what can I do with it? can I make it better for reading manga from pdfs?
>>107002985You can literally do anything with it, there's a big modding scene
>>107002878Ironic that even this linux needs probably 26+ dependencies to just install a simple epub reader...
>>107002950expect to see an amazon rep break into your home shortly
I jailbroke my Kobo.. which wasn't much of a jailbreak. literally change field in a row in an sqlite file that's plainly accessible when it's plugged normally into USB. even then I don't think that's even necessary if you want to install KOReader, only circumvent the need for an account.
>>107002878i did because i thought i would get native support for more filetypes, but it just meant i could install weird programs and use those instead of the default reader to read books. a reader that's worse than the official one so it's completely pointless.
>>107003137Koreaderis vastly superior to the official one, also much snappier and energy efficient
>>107002878Imagine typing on that shitty keyboard thing. My kindle works just fine, I only use it to read books. What would I jailbreak it for?
>cat file | grep somethingUh, retard?
>>107003172i think my main problem was how the book explorer worked. instead of having all the covers and collections neatly organized, it was just a simple file selector from the root
>>107003079I'll take that as a no.
>>107002878which is the latest model of kindle i can jailbreak? or i need to buy some years old kindle?heard there is some color epaper kindle, can it be jailbroken too?
i used to be able to easily email books to my kindle, but after jailbreaking it that doesnt work anymore. so jailbreaking has been a net negative overall.
>>107003193You can set up the more traditional library view you’re looking for
>>107003198>making it better for reading manga from pdfs is not included in anythingFirst of all you should improve your reading comprehension weeb
>>107003205https://kindlemodding.org/kindle-models
>>107002878because i have a kobo with koreader instead :)
>>107002878Because I have a pine note
>>107002878Because the 2015 kindle works just fine
>>107002898I use the kindle email to send pirated books to my kind across the internet. An I going to be ok?
I have a Boox color and has no idea how to jailbreak it.
>>107003219You sent pirated books to your kindle?
>>107003367yeah
>>107003359Stop doing that shit. If you have to transfer wirelessly, do it over Calibre.
>>107002878Mebook M6>superior in almost every way>it's android, no need to jailbreak shit
>>107003373Imagine using an anroid e-reader, you're lost beyond return
>>107003372Why should I stop? It's so easy, I don't even have to hook it up to my PC
>>107003373PocketBook master race reporting
>>107002878it doesn't show on my windows machine when i connect the usb
>>107002878Because I have a Remarkable Paper Pro
I have an iPad Mini 6, so no need to jailbreak.
it is undisputed this is the superior Kindle version. also jailbroken
>>107003504The screen is cancer for your eyes, e-ink is way less straining, especially if it has a frontlight.
>>107002878using a phone to read is 100 times better than using slow ass eink garbage that you cant even read in the dark in bed. nothing would make me happier than for israel to detonate every single kindle on earth.
>>107002878Last time I checked there was no jailbreak for firmware 5.18.3
>>107002898Nta I use calibre to convert epubs to mobi or whatever it uses nowadaysHowever I have a pw2 kindle, it has an extremely low memory and the jailbreak is pretty much useless on it (as it runs on top of kindle os).
>>107002878kindle scribe is not available in my third world shitholeand the other versions are too small for manga reading
>>107003549There is now, its called adbreak
>>107003547Phone screens are bad for your eyes and e-readers have frontlight, so you can read in the dark
>>107002878because I can already just drag and drop pdfs and mobis into it just fine
>>107003547You are retarded and never owned e-ink in your life
>>107003269That's awesome, thanks
>>107003519Didn't it have "lifetime" cell phone access to Wikipedia?
>>107002878I lost my kindle in 2015 and haven't been able to find it since
>>107003609I mean he is right about them being slow sometimes
>>107003127If you're referring to sideloaded mode - that doesn't even require messing with anything SQLite. Just adjusting a config file and adding SideloadedMode=true to it.Reboot the reader, and Boom! - done.
>>107004092They're slow compared to a computer like a tablet, but they're only supposed to display books and flip the page every couple of minutes, they're plenty fast for that
>>107004135FWIW - I've been using it for some time on an older reader model now, and it literally quadruples battery life.Kobo readers must doing something AWFUL in their normal account-linked state. ooph...
>>107003389>imagine paying for Bezos' new yacht
>>107002878Because I own a Kobo already>Supports libby>dropbox sync with mihon and calibre>native cbr/cbz support plus everything else
>>107004156I’ve used them to read manga, and they’re painfully slow at rendering images and flipping pages. Plus, the zooming is awful, you can’t focus on a single panel, it just enlarges the whole image, and then you have to drag it around with your finger. They work well for novels or anything with only text, but when it comes to illustrations, they are not very good, despite Amazon advertising them as suitable for reading comics and the like.
>>107004285They're not made for manga.
>>107002878I don't read books. I have them read to me. The way humans hear stories for the majority of our existence.
>>107004295again that's how amazon advertises them and one of the reasons i bought them but guess i was scammed
>>107002878Links to newest jailbreaks + guides? I am pretty sure I couldn't break the version mine shipped with. I bought mine a few months ago and put it on airplane mode to make sure it won't update.
>>107004092Depends on the device.Some even manage 60Hz.
>>107004368>>107003269
>>107004308Theyre assuming you're buying marvel/dc slop from their store and using their panel by panel scrolling instead of page by page. You really need something more tankobon sized like >>107004251, or one of the bigger android readers if you want western comics.
>>107002898>you have to convert epubsThat's a good thing, because it means I can make adjustments with Calibre during conversion without changing the original file.
What's the point of Kindle if you don't buy ebooks on Amazon when Kobo and Boox exist?
>>107004521Cheaper to buy used.
>>107002985You can load koreader, which has some manga features and handles PDF.>>107003079well, when I jailbroke mine it wasn't a super active scene and a lot of resources were kinda old.>>107003330sorry. maybe when you give up on it you can buy a used kindle to jailbreak.>>107004285koreader has a panel zoom that works about 3/4 of the time.
>>107003373I went with the m7. I wanted the physical buttons.Being able to use it as a terminal for my home server is really nice. I didn't realise just how much color makes a difference when you are in CLI, next one i'm getting will be a color model.
>>107004839Doesn't Termux styling have a b&w e-ink style that uses greyscale?
>>107002892I've run into some problems recently, it would refuse to open the ebook saying there's an incorrect amazon number or something, and it would lock me there in a loop. Flipping on airplane mode throws it out of the loop somehow. Those epuds i had to send to my Kindle through Amazons email.
>>107004540Cheaper for a reason. People don't go from Kindle to a new Kindle, they go for literaly any other brand.
>>107005128Most go from Kindle to nothing.
>>107005052Yeah it does, but things like colors of files and syntax colors won't appear.
>>107005061i dont think you have the same kindle as me >>107003519they shut down 3G in my country long ago and it isn't connected to wifi, nor have i ever signed in with any account, ever
75 comments and nobody gave any reason to jailbreak. What can you actually do with it that you can't with stock Kindle + Calibre?
>>107005474install koreader. did we really have to spell it out so clearly?
>>107005492And what can I do with koreader that I can't with stock Kindle + Calibre?
>>107002878>/procthat's linux, therefore root not jailbreak
>>107002878I have a libra 2 with koreader
>>107005518the software is better. my advice is to check the webpage and maybe try it on desktop.
>>107005518Have an actually good and snappy reading experience
>>107005518Directly read epubs without having to access a computer for conversion.More options for reading pdf.
>>107005518Better able to interact with calibre on a server.
>>107003519Really want to try this now, seems like a very good prep to have along with a power bank
>>107005211mine didn't came with the 3G stuff. I didn't trust them.btw if you have one of these, they have a microphone on the pcb, which had no option in the menu. a mysterious microphone that you have no access to.I imagine its use on 3G always online versions...lel
