Why haven't you jailbroken your kindle yet?
>>
>>107002878
because i have a kindle 2 and I can transfer all my books with calibre just fine
>>
>>107002892
Sure, but you have to convert epubs and Amazon can delete your library anytime
>>
post fastfetch
>>
>>107002878
I have. I installed koreader, but other than that I haven't found much use for jail breaking
>>
I use it to read books
>>
>>107002898
i dont convert anything i just have a bunch of books i torrented that i added to calibre that just syncs to my kindle

my kindle doesn't have an internet connection, so i find it hard to believe they could delete my library
>>
>>107002878
what can I do with it? can I make it better for reading manga from pdfs?
>>
>>107002985
You can literally do anything with it, there's a big modding scene
>>
>>107002878
Ironic that even this linux needs probably 26+ dependencies to just install a simple epub reader...
>>
>>107002950
expect to see an amazon rep break into your home shortly
>>
I jailbroke my Kobo.. which wasn't much of a jailbreak. literally change field in a row in an sqlite file that's plainly accessible when it's plugged normally into USB. even then I don't think that's even necessary if you want to install KOReader, only circumvent the need for an account.
>>
>>107002878
i did because i thought i would get native support for more filetypes, but it just meant i could install weird programs and use those instead of the default reader to read books. a reader that's worse than the official one so it's completely pointless.
>>
>>107003137
Koreaderis vastly superior to the official one, also much snappier and energy efficient
>>
>>107002878
Imagine typing on that shitty keyboard thing.
My kindle works just fine, I only use it to read books. What would I jailbreak it for?
>>
>cat file | grep something
Uh, retard?
>>
>>107003172
i think my main problem was how the book explorer worked. instead of having all the covers and collections neatly organized, it was just a simple file selector from the root
>>
>>107003079
I'll take that as a no.
>>
>>107002878
which is the latest model of kindle i can jailbreak? or i need to buy some years old kindle?

heard there is some color epaper kindle, can it be jailbroken too?
>>
i used to be able to easily email books to my kindle, but after jailbreaking it that doesnt work anymore. so jailbreaking has been a net negative overall.
>>
>>107003193
You can set up the more traditional library view you’re looking for
>>
>>107003198
>making it better for reading manga from pdfs is not included in anything
First of all you should improve your reading comprehension weeb
>>
>>107003205

>>
>>107002878
because i have a kobo with koreader instead :)
>>
>>107002878
Because I have a pine note
>>
>>107002878
Because the 2015 kindle works just fine
>>
>>107002898
I use the kindle email to send pirated books to my kind across the internet. An I going to be ok?
>>
I have a Boox color and has no idea how to jailbreak it.
>>
>>107003219
You sent pirated books to your kindle?
>>
>>107003367
yeah
>>
>>107003359
Stop doing that shit. If you have to transfer wirelessly, do it over Calibre.
>>
>>107002878
Mebook M6
>superior in almost every way
>it's android, no need to jailbreak shit
>>
>>107003373
Imagine using an anroid e-reader, you're lost beyond return
>>
>>107003372
Why should I stop? It's so easy, I don't even have to hook it up to my PC
>>
>>107003373
PocketBook master race reporting
>>
>>107002878
it doesn't show on my windows machine when i connect the usb
>>
>>107002878
Because I have a Remarkable Paper Pro
>>
I have an iPad Mini 6, so no need to jailbreak.

it is undisputed this is the superior Kindle version. also jailbroken
>>
>>107003504
The screen is cancer for your eyes, e-ink is way less straining, especially if it has a frontlight.
>>
>>107002878
using a phone to read is 100 times better than using slow ass eink garbage that you cant even read in the dark in bed. nothing would make me happier than for israel to detonate every single kindle on earth.
>>
>>107002878
Last time I checked there was no jailbreak for firmware 5.18.3
>>
>>107002898
Nta I use calibre to convert epubs to mobi or whatever it uses nowadays

However I have a pw2 kindle, it has an extremely low memory and the jailbreak is pretty much useless on it (as it runs on top of kindle os).
>>
>>107002878
kindle scribe is not available in my third world shithole
and the other versions are too small for manga reading
>>
>>107003549
There is now, its called adbreak
>>
>>107003547
Phone screens are bad for your eyes and e-readers have frontlight, so you can read in the dark
>>
>>107002878
because I can already just drag and drop pdfs and mobis into it just fine
>>
>>107003547
You are retarded and never owned e-ink in your life
>>
>>107003269
That's awesome, thanks
>>
>>107003519
Didn't it have "lifetime" cell phone access to Wikipedia?
>>
>>107002878
I lost my kindle in 2015 and haven't been able to find it since
>>
>>107003609
I mean he is right about them being slow sometimes
>>
>>107003127
If you're referring to sideloaded mode - that doesn't even require messing with anything SQLite. Just adjusting a config file and adding SideloadedMode=true to it.
Reboot the reader, and Boom! - done.
>>
>>107004092
They're slow compared to a computer like a tablet, but they're only supposed to display books and flip the page every couple of minutes, they're plenty fast for that
>>
>>107004135
FWIW - I've been using it for some time on an older reader model now, and it literally quadruples battery life.
Kobo readers must doing something AWFUL in their normal account-linked state. ooph...

>dropbox sync with mihon and calibre

I’ve used them to read manga, and they’re painfully slow at rendering images and flipping pages. Plus, the zooming is awful, you can’t focus on a single panel, it just enlarges the whole image, and then you have to drag it around with your finger.

They work well for novels or anything with only text, but when it comes to illustrations, they are not very good, despite Amazon advertising them as suitable for reading comics and the like.
>>
>>107004285
They're not made for manga.

again that's how amazon advertises them and one of the reasons i bought them but guess i was scammed
>>
>>107002878
Links to newest jailbreaks + guides? I am pretty sure I couldn't break the version mine shipped with. I bought mine a few months ago and put it on airplane mode to make sure it won't update.
>>
>>107004092
Depends on the device.
Some even manage 60Hz.
>>
>>107004368
>>107003269
>>
>>107004308
Theyre assuming you're buying marvel/dc slop from their store and using their panel by panel scrolling instead of page by page.
You really need something more tankobon sized like >>107004251, or one of the bigger android readers if you want western comics.
>>
>>107002898
>you have to convert epubs
That's a good thing, because it means I can make adjustments with Calibre during conversion without changing the original file.
>>
What's the point of Kindle if you don't buy ebooks on Amazon when Kobo and Boox exist?
>>
>>107004521
Cheaper to buy used.
>>
>>107002985
You can load koreader, which has some manga features and handles PDF.
>>107003079
well, when I jailbroke mine it wasn't a super active scene and a lot of resources were kinda old.
>>107003330
sorry. maybe when you give up on it you can buy a used kindle to jailbreak.
>>107004285
koreader has a panel zoom that works about 3/4 of the time.
>>
>>107003373
I went with the m7. I wanted the physical buttons.
Being able to use it as a terminal for my home server is really nice. I didn't realise just how much color makes a difference when you are in CLI, next one i'm getting will be a color model.
>>
>>107004839
Doesn't Termux styling have a b&w e-ink style that uses greyscale?
>>
>>107002892
I've run into some problems recently, it would refuse to open the ebook saying there's an incorrect amazon number or something, and it would lock me there in a loop. Flipping on airplane mode throws it out of the loop somehow. Those epuds i had to send to my Kindle through Amazons email.
>>
>>107004540
Cheaper for a reason. People don't go from Kindle to a new Kindle, they go for literaly any other brand.
>>
>>107005128
Most go from Kindle to nothing.
>>
>>107005052
Yeah it does, but things like colors of files and syntax colors won't appear.
>>
>>107005061
i dont think you have the same kindle as me >>107003519
they shut down 3G in my country long ago and it isn't connected to wifi, nor have i ever signed in with any account, ever
>>
75 comments and nobody gave any reason to jailbreak. What can you actually do with it that you can't with stock Kindle + Calibre?
>>
>>107005474
install koreader. did we really have to spell it out so clearly?

the software is better. my advice is to check the webpage and maybe try it on desktop.
>>
>>107005518
Have an actually good and snappy reading experience
>>
>>107005518
Directly read epubs without having to access a computer for conversion.
More options for reading pdf.
>>
>>107005518
Better able to interact with calibre on a server.
>>
>>107003519
Really want to try this now, seems like a very good prep to have along with a power bank
>>
>>107005211
mine didn't came with the 3G stuff. I didn't trust them.
btw if you have one of these, they have a microphone on the pcb, which had no option in the menu. a mysterious microphone that you have no access to.
I imagine its use on 3G always online versions...lel
