why are you still using that stinkpad and haven't upgraded to superior macbook?are you poor?
>>107005827Yes.
>>107005827isnt their firmware more glowie than intel IME/AMD PSP? i heard fedora runs all janky on it i want hardware that's officially supported by some mainstream distro
Everyone drinks from a water fountain>Apple: lets drink from toiletsWhy isn't everyone drinking from toilets? Are you poor?
>>107005827Decent hardware, apart from the lack of air cooling, but only Fruit's speshul snowflake OS really supports it. I need Gentoo, so it's not an option for me.
>superiour macbookyeah no
>>107005904what ram timings do they use?
>>1070059268000mhz quad channel is good enough i think
>>107005904reimu pape plz?
>>107005899> I NEED gentooNo. You need to find a job.
>>107005978something looks offdo you have another tool like zentimings or hwinfo64
Macs make sense for local LLMs at 128GB of unified RAM, even Strix Halo on e.g. Framework systems cannot beat it since it's not unified (you have a dedicated split between RAM and VRAM).

>>107005827My laptop costs more than the base MBA, but why would I get the MBA when it does less than what I expect from a computer, a lot less? Can't run games, no OLED option, way to upgrade the SSD to 4TB (it'd probably cost 2000 EUR even if there was one). It's absolutely pointless and a downgrade as far as I'm concerned.>>107005904>>107005978Run the memory benchmark in Aida64 I'm curious to see the bandwidth and latency results.

>>107006047AMD has a maximum of 96 GB VRAM. Also slower than Apple's implementation.
I used to be a shitpad shill back when I had no job and spent most of my days online. Now I'm a developer and use my MacBook air M1. I'd like to upgrade to a newer but I don't want to spend money but one thing is certain, I'm never touching a stinkpad ever again. They're fine for your boomers to read their mails and write documents but that's all. Serious people with serious jobs don't give a fuck about fuckpads.
I have a pc that costs more than a thousand
>>107005827i don't need to spend 850 dollars plus tax to buy a device that browses the internet.in fact i bought a thinkpad x1 carbon released in 2018 for 110 dollars last week. should be here in a couple of days.
>>107006065Maybe it's downclocking at idle? Press the stress button in cpu-z and check the speed again
>>107006082Hi, Tim Apple.
>>107005827I'm too poor to even buy Thinkpad, bro. Why call out like this?!
>>107006089>in fact i bought a thinkpad x1 carbon released in 2018 for 110 dollars last weekenjoy buying a $100 replacement battery if you ever accidentally connect USB-C to it instead of the actual charger. ask me how i know...
>>107006061>OLED on a computer*pukes*
>>107006185Even if he finds a brand new battery, it would last half an hour unplugged. Can't believe people are wasting money on dead hardware
>>107006185the battery is 35 dollars for a replacement and i'm not retarded, but thanks
>>107006214the charger is USB-C form factor... but the battery breaks if charged by USB-C. basically, don't EVER make the mistake of grabbing and plugging in USB-C while fumbling in the dark for the right cable. i made that mistake only four times between 2019 and 2024. guess how many replacement batteries i had to buy, and when i had to buy them... i was on the laptop every day for hours, thousands of charger connects/disconnects, so my "error rate" was singular hundreths of a percent.
>>107006193Until Apple discovers this revolutionary technology in about 5 years and then you'll be saying they've got the best screens evar.
>>107006279If I did it once I'd immediately try and 'key' the hole so it doesnt take regular usbC any more but only takes a modified original charger
>>107005827I have 16 GB RAM and a 512 GB SSD in my X220...
>>107006357that would be tough, the dedicated charging port quickly got "loose"/sloppy, within a year i had to baby the charger cable to keep it connected. so i imagine any keying would also get loose and allow errant USB-C connections. my fix was to wrap a tactile lump of tape around the charger cable end, so that even in the dark, i could feel that it was the right cable. but even that wasn't enough to keep me from never doing it.
>>107006550>>107006557cool? any pics from this century?
>>107006503your cheeks are pic related
>>107006061>OLED on a laptopYou must be well-off, anon
>>107007298Even the cheapest OLED panel in an ASUS Vivobook looks better than the screen on the MBA.Apple will inevitably switch to OLED at some point, many years after everyone else, and the fanboys are going to cream themselves like they always do, see the iPhone's OLED screen and 120Hz refresh rate.
