so I'm building a new PC for a friend, he has an old PC from about 13 years ago so it has classic HDDs. i want to just stick them into the new PC but i realize the case i got doesn't have any racks for HDDs, so I'm wondering to myself what i can do about that... https://a.co/d/cRJ7lvC it's this case by the way. i don't want to fuck up the old HDDs but I'm thinking the rack they're in can be taken out of the old case and put in the new case too. or maybe i just need to get a different case... what do you guys think?

Just pile the drives up and connect the cables. It's not a laptop where everything needs to be attached. You aren't going to take your ATX rig on a rollercoaster.

This. And if you are really worried about it then you can wrap the drives in bubble wrap and tape and just leave a hole for the cable

i thought about that too... but I'm so used to old PC building where everything is secured and even the HDDs are screwed in for some reason so the case can be sideways. but yeah, it isn't really going to be tipped over or anything.

instead of tossing in like 4x 500GB wd blues like a retard please just buy a boot SSD and consolidate the drives if you must if there is to much porn to swap all to SSDs to a 4TB hdd and then zip tie it in place.

according to pcpartpicker that case has 1 bay for 3,5" and 2 bays for 2,5" hard drives
i would bet that those are verstaile and it can be 2 3,5" or 4 2,5" hard drives
Anyhow check a video of the case to find where they are, usually its under the psu shroud or behind the panel that you screw the mobo to

nvm they are not versatile, you can see them there 1 slot for a big hdd and 2 slots for ssd

How many disks are we talking about? and is buying new storage out of the question?

this
copying all his shit onto an ssd then tying all the spinning rust together with cable ties then throwing it off a boat somewhere would be the single greatest upgrade you can provide. He doesn't really need that case either, not unless he *really needs* mount points for a shitload of fans. Which I doubt he does.

Just use a USB thing to get data off the big spinning rust drives
Then run DBAN on them and get rid of them
