Looking for recommendations for customizing the look of my VM desktopI've looked through some of the more popular themes, but not a lot of them really stood out to me, so i'm hoping there's an obscure or unusual one that one of you guys know about. I'm willing to switch to the Xfce DE if necessary. As you can tell, I like the colors red and black, and i'm into Aztec shit, so something along those lines would work very well for me.
Doro approves this thread.
>>107009862my fav is removing all the useless elements, making background almost everywhere pitch black
Why does nouveau cause my old ThinkPad with Nvidia to freeze? It's random but I notice it always happens when opening gufw. I guess it's just too ancient at this point.
>lost my headphone padthis is itim shooting up synagogue
>>107009953paypal me 500 before you do it
this is so sad man all i wanted to do is to watch some minecraft slop, read my book and go to sleepbut fuck me i guess
>>107009937How old are we talking here? Nouveau was causing random freezes for me too but this was a 6150 SE
holy SHIT ive found itthe jews are safefor now...

anyone here use and train ai on their linux os?
>>107009862I don't have a theme suggestion but...The nice thing about GTK themes is that it's all CSS and the icons are just pngs so you have a lot of freedom to customize themes exactly how you want. If you find one you like with the wrong colors or rounded/straight corners or something else it's just a matter of finding the right lines and editing them or recoloring the pngs. You can even use a color picker to get matching hex values for colors if you want to go the extra mile, and this also makes it easier to copy colors from other themes. I would look for a specific theme you like then try to edit the colors exactly how you want instead of looking for a red/black theme specifically.
>did an Arch system upgrade on a PC I haven't used in a while and lazily didn't check what it was doing>on reboot, Kwin doesn't work>have to install kwin-x11 to fix itGonna look through the pacman logs to see what I did wrong>[ALPM] upgraded kwin>[ALPM-SCRIPTLET] The KWin X window manager has been split to a separate kwin-x11 package. Why did they do this? My fault for not checking, I suppose.
>>107010424Because X11 isn't the default anymore, Wayland is. If you specifically want an X11 KDE session you need to install that separate package now.
>>107010449Does Wayland still have forced vsync and you can't disable the compositor like you can on X11 when playing games? Or did valve fix that
>>107009810should i install arch or install gentoo
Looking for a KDE theme that supports transparent blur and the titlebar blends with the Window. Klassy + kvantum isn't quite there. Either that or I'm doing something wrong.Nonetheless, I know such a thing is doable because I've seen some screencaps of something like that out there
>>107010481Arch is easier
>>107010424And somehow I was missing linux-firmware-amdgpu also. This has been my first year using Arch and it's been good, but I need to be more careful about these things.
>>107010481What are you even trying to do? Being a normal computer user? Arch. Wizard obsessed with customization and minimalism? Gentoo.
>>107010459RedHat fixed it like 5 years ago probably
I hate modern Linux. The comfy boomerness of MX Linux is what I crave and need. Fuck your Wayland, fuck your systemd, fuck your cloud bullshit. We using Xfce and have cool grub themes like it's 2007.
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=301804anons I am having this issue. I have already added amdgpu.dcdebugmask=0x10 and 0x200 respectively to the file /boot/loader/entries/linux-cachyos.conf (I use systemd) but the issue persists even more so when display compositor is on. Strangely when steam is open in the background the issue is gone mostly. Did I add the command errantly? Help would be appreciated.
>>107011041Forgot to mention I use xfce4 rn
>>107011050>Install GentooOR>swap to i3, sway, or hyprland
How hard is gentoo to install? I can manage a arch install so gentoo should be no different except lots of compiling?
Usecase for nixos?
I have set one of my monitors to portrait, works fine while in ubuntu gnome 25 with wayland, but the login dialog is still in landscape so entering my password is annoying.I already tried a gdm3/.config.monitors.xml file but it doesn't change anything. Also tried an xrandr command in the gdm greeter.
>>107011140Hobbyism
>>107011132Gentoo as a beginner is not that harder to install when compared to Arch, it's the same process if you're thinking objectively about it: Just following the wiki and running several commands you don't know about(yet)But if you're going to think about options and try to customize it to your needs, the complexity rises - but not the difficulty, since wiki is there for that too.
>>107011068Isn't there a solution to this besides switching to wayland? >GentooSince I am a beginner I am afraid of this Distro
>>107011219Noice. Will give a try.
How's EndavourOS? I plan to use it as my main OS and have a windows partition for like, Mostly Fortnite, maybe Clip Studio
>>107011282It's basically Arch with a handheld live environment installer. It's a good way to get into Arch without going with the vanilla variant.
I just installed kde and tried it. In less than 5 minutes I uninstalled it. The task bar doesn't even work, and whenever I try to launch a program it is telling me to create some kwallet shit. And I thought gnome was a piece of junk...
>>107011337taskbar not working is just skill issuebut the kwallet thing is just their keyring, gnome, cosmic and a lot others do the same to encrypt passwords - which can be disabled, but I doubt you'd be able to do that
KDEConnect provides mouse and keyboard input via a connected phone, why not from another PC? I can only find the option to input key presses from another computer. Is there a way to use keyboard and mouse on one desktop as "direct" mouse and keyboard to another computer on the network? I know SSH provides direct terminal access.>>107009937Because nvidia doesn't embraced open source. It's an nvidia Optimus system, right? X11 still handles that setup best, and the proprietary nvidia drivers will work better than the open source. You should be able to change from integrated to discrete. Might help you troubleshoot. It has a third mode, hybrid, which uses the discrete gpu on demand.
>>107009953You thinking a white paint pen or white out?
>>107010494Plasma 6? 5 has some glass themes. By blend you mean no border around the title bar? Theme creators are still catching up to Plasma 6 from what I saw for the hour or two I used it.
>>107011426https://github.com/input-leap/input-leapSide note: KDE Connect's virtual mouse/keyboard is still very buggy sometimes on Wayland. Now and again key repeat gets stuck so say you press the Enter/Return key once, it can spam it a million times. Sometimes the mouse gets stuck too (e.g Mouse down is held repeatedly and not released properly). Not sure if this is a KWin bug or not. I know there's a bunch of challenges to even making this work at all.
>>107008208Fedora removed wget and has it as a symlink to wget2 which isn't backwards compatible or intended to be a 100% replacement for wget
I have this problem with Linux that when I first turn my laptop on for the day, it will randomly reboot like 2-5 times before stopping..I've tried Mint and Arch, KDE/Gnome and it still happens.. Running Omarchy now and it rebooted 4 times before I could log in.. Shit is annoying, probs go back to winshit
>>107011649It's 90% compatible except it doesn't have any of the scraping/spidering features which most scripts don't use.
>>107011741Also, no FTP support too but frankly anyone still using FTP in 2025 should be shot dead.
>>107011649They swapped it back to wget1 all the way back in April of this year, after all the complaints from the swap in Fedora 40.
>>107011767A pity we can't have nice things because of people's legacy crap. They could have done the swap themselves.
>>107011649>>107011741>>107011762>not using curlNGMI.
>>107011782by "swapped" I mean they have both packages now. wget2 is still the default but you can have both installed.
>>107011785I like Curl and it even comes with a nice wcurl script for easy downloading like wget <URL> you can instead use wcurl <URL>.It's missing some nice quality of life things that wget has though like a decent progress bar.
wget <URL>
wcurl <URL>
>>107011785wget has simpler syntax so if I'm just downloading a single file it's a lot quicker to type "wget Ctrl+V" than curl's longer syntax of "curl -o Ctrl+V filename.sh"
>>107011790Ah, that's better then. People can update their legacy scripts to call /usr/bin/wget1 or whatever and /usr/bin/wget can still be wget2.
>>107011799There's a package you can install that will set the wget symlink to point at GNU wget or vice versa.
>>107011873Yes, that's what I meant by you can do the swap yourself. I didn't know they added a way to have both installed at once though, that's useful.
