Looking for recommendations for customizing the look of my VM desktop
I've looked through some of the more popular themes, but not a lot of them really stood out to me, so i'm hoping there's an obscure or unusual one that one of you guys know about. I'm willing to switch to the Xfce DE if necessary.
As you can tell, I like the colors red and black, and i'm into Aztec shit, so something along those lines would work very well for me.

I don't have a theme suggestion but...
The nice thing about GTK themes is that it's all CSS and the icons are just pngs so you have a lot of freedom to customize themes exactly how you want. If you find one you like with the wrong colors or rounded/straight corners or something else it's just a matter of finding the right lines and editing them or recoloring the pngs. You can even use a color picker to get matching hex values for colors if you want to go the extra mile, and this also makes it easier to copy colors from other themes. I would look for a specific theme you like then try to edit the colors exactly how you want instead of looking for a red/black theme specifically.

Because X11 isn't the default anymore, Wayland is. If you specifically want an X11 KDE session you need to install that separate package now.

Gentoo as a beginner is not that harder to install when compared to Arch, it's the same process if you're thinking objectively about it: Just following the wiki and running several commands you don't know about(yet)

But if you're going to think about options and try to customize it to your needs, the complexity rises - but not the difficulty, since wiki is there for that too.

KDEConnect provides mouse and keyboard input via a connected phone, why not from another PC? I can only find the option to input key presses from another computer.

Is there a way to use keyboard and mouse on one desktop as "direct" mouse and keyboard to another computer on the network? I know SSH provides direct terminal access.

>>107009937
Because nvidia doesn't embraced open source. It's an nvidia Optimus system, right? X11 still handles that setup best, and the proprietary nvidia drivers will work better than the open source. You should be able to change from integrated to discrete. Might help you troubleshoot. It has a third mode, hybrid, which uses the discrete gpu on demand.

https://github.com/input-leap/input-leap

Side note: KDE Connect's virtual mouse/keyboard is still very buggy sometimes on Wayland. Now and again key repeat gets stuck so say you press the Enter/Return key once, it can spam it a million times. Sometimes the mouse gets stuck too (e.g Mouse down is held repeatedly and not released properly).

Not sure if this is a KWin bug or not. I know there's a bunch of challenges to even making this work at all.

by "swapped" I mean they have both packages now. wget2 is still the default but you can have both installed.
>>
>>107011785
I like Curl and it even comes with a nice wcurl script for easy downloading like
wget <URL>
you can instead use
wcurl <URL>
.

It's missing some nice quality of life things that wget has though like a decent progress bar.
>>
>>107011785
wget has simpler syntax so if I'm just downloading a single file it's a lot quicker to type "wget Ctrl+V" than curl's longer syntax of "curl -o Ctrl+V filename.sh"
>>
>>107011790
Ah, that's better then. People can update their legacy scripts to call /usr/bin/wget1 or whatever and /usr/bin/wget can still be wget2.
>>

There's a package you can install that will set the wget symlink to point at GNU wget or vice versa.

Chat, I am trying to set up a Ubuntu machine as a living room PC.

Main issue, getting my controller to work as a mouse. I have input-remapper working, buy it only works after I log in. I got it to run at startup, but I think because it uses user-profiles, I might be naynay'd.

Is there anyone who has gotten a controller to work as their mouse during the login screen?

What solution is there?

Can I make a hidden root account and have this autolog into a user account with no password?

Just follow its install guide on its wiki. It's written out easily enough to grasp.
>>
>>107012069
The "account" is not likely to be the issue because there are no accounts on Linux, just associations between names and numeric user IDs written in a text file. An "admin account" in a typical distro is just a user name that happens to be mentioned in /etc/sudoers and conditionally or unconditionally allowed to "elevate" to root through the sudo command.

It's a user account. Go to settings and search for login and enable autologin

Well i'm not going to go out of the way to modify the script and figure out which args i need to replace for a third-party script i'm only going to be using once or twice and nobody else should have to do the same just because fedora wants to force the depreciation of wget when even the wget2 dev said its not intended to be a replacement for wget which he's also the developer for.
>>
>>107012941
It's intended to perform the same functions, just some features like scraping and FTP support aren't supported. It's in everyone's best interest to remove superfluous arguments that aren't needed in their script. It'll probably make it easier to read too.

If there's a genuine thing that Wget2 can't actually do that is needed then you may have a point but it works fine 90% of the time. You found the 10% edge-case.

>>

Probably
Check your cpu and ram usage. Hitching is likely related to your cpu being overwhelmed by the 300 tabs since browsers are bloated crap.
>>
>>107013161
Most old scripts will work fine, you found one that didn't and you don't even know which option it was that caused it anyway which means it probably wasn't that important.

If you have really legacy code then you probably shouldn't run it on a modern distro and should shove it in an old container, for example with an older version of Fedora.
