Considering switching from iOS to Grapheneos, but came across Louis Rossman's video [1] about the threats GOS founder Daniel Micay made against him. Also found on Louis website claims that all GOS statements of Micay stepping down have been scrubbed [2].Can GOS be trusted with Micay or is this secure/open enough that GOS is safe irregardless of leadership (Micay's twitter profile indicates he's still involved [3])? Am I focusing on irrelevant details in what is often considered a good secure/private phone-OS?[1]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4To-F6W1NT0[2]https://privatephoneshop.com/why-we-no-longer-sell-phones-with-grapheneos/[3]https://x.com/DanielMicay/
fuck both of them tbdesu
>>107012718sure, but that does not answer if GOS is secure/private to use with Micay and his politics likely still involved?
>>107012322the entire point of grapheneos is that it's maintained by an obsessive turboschizoid paranoiac. who would you trust to replace him?
>>107012912good point and i was thinking in similar lines, what worries me is how Micay threatens Rossman after Rossman posts a comment that Micay does not like. it seems mentally unstable and the sort of "leadership" that can damage GOS performance, no?
>>107012955sure but there's no alternative
>>107012970>no alternativeyep. jesus how did we end up in this ios/andoid dumpany input on if GOS is safe enough to use irregardless of Micay?
micay is an eccentric autistic genius, he's hard to deal with but he could kill rossmann for all i care and i'd still want him to lead graphene development from prison.
>>107012322>system made by a guy who thinks he's smarter than everyobody working at GoogleNo, thanks. I'll keep using stock android. I'm not trusting some random schizophrenic with my bank account.
>>107013016>irregardless of Micay?if you don't trust Micay, you shouldn't use it. GrapheneOS will auto-download and auto-update your system and you can't change that. More than that, Micay is the one holding reigns and having absolute control over GOS. Every other "developer" is just extra, doing some mundane shit to bring GOS to new Pixels. If Micay wanted to push a "wipe-all" update, he could, and nobody would be able to stop him.
>>107013082>i'd still want him to lead graphenewhy? how do you know he's so good?>>107013198can you elaborate on what makes you trust him? doesnt one guy carrying the whole OS make it a risk in itself? he could get run over tomorrow and development stops?
>>107013263worse yet he could get v& and not released from an underground torture room until he pushes a backdoor/gives a three letter agency his keys and you wouldn't even know.or maybe he already did.
>>107012322(((Rossman)))
>>107013263>can you elaborate on what makes you trust him?oh, i don't. i went back to stock about a year ago, i just couldn't keep trusting him after he spazzed out for 50th time against some random open source project (picrel). he is genuinely losing it.
>>107012322> but came across Louis Rossman's video [1] about the threats GOS founder Daniel Micay made against himrossman is a psychopath, he goes to EXTREME LENGTH all the time to destroy people who simply disagree with him.>Can GOS be trusted with Micay or is this secure/open enough that GOS is safe irregardless of leadershipyes, it's the only android os you can trust>Am I focusing on irrelevant details in what is often considered a good secure/private phone-OS?yes
>>107013407hi daniel, sorry you got swatted 6 milion times by evil nazis
>>107013407>simply disagree with him>>threats GOS founder Daniel Micay made against him
>>107013407>yes, it's the only android os you can trustwhy?>yeswhy?you can't just do the whole 'trust me bro', that's the reason apple sucks so much in privacy/security
funny how most posts are negative and no one has anything positive to say..
>>107013333Source for picrel?
>>107012322A paranoid autistic schizo like Micay being the head dev of a privacy and security oriented project is, in my opinion, a massive green flag. However, I do think they need someone else to run PR for them because whoever does it right now is extremely abrasive and if they want to work with an OEM in the future like they keep alluding to they can't keep acting this way.
>>107013770You know who's working their social accounts…
