When Windows 10s official support ended not so many days ago, some people wanted try linux.

But hackers were ahead of them.

They had put malware in Xubuntu distribution server.

Cybercriminals put malware in English language Xubuntu distribution. But it was meant as a trap for dumb people.

Anew folder appeared at ubuntu site. It specifically said "Windows 10 users should click here"

Then there was readme.txt file describing the Ubuntu download and next to it was Ubuntuinstaller.exe.

Windows users will of course download the exe, am I right?

The exe opens up as an installer lookalike which runs on top of Windows. It tells you to click "next" to start migrating your windows 10 files and settings to hidden folder which would not be deleted during install and which would be safe even after linux install. Then it said "I am now attempting to download all the Linux files, you need 4GB of space".

Sound legit huh? However the installer will terminate on its own, everytime, and will proclaim "your computer didnt support the requirements of Xubuntu, exiting".

What did it do when it was running? It stole all your crypto. If you didnt have crypto, nothing would happen.

no since exe is not involved in the installation at any stage also they give you the hash of the real file so you can check its not been hacked
