How is something like this even legal? Surveillance pricing? Dynamic pricing? Are there any laws against technology companies abusing things like this?
>>107013833Perfectly legal, and that's not gonna change because corporations choose their own regulations and we sure do love fascism lately. What, did you think fascism was just authoritarian reactionary bullshit? No, it's the marriage of the state to capital. That's only accelerating thanks to brainless peons in red hats.
>>107013857linux has nothing to do with this
>>107013833You will never get me to feel bad about the bourgeoisie Companies can rape them over the coals all day
first time i see when 4chan isnt all in on being the single most fascist beings i have ever seen, though that might as well just be the same anon being multiple different ones
>abusingIsn't this literally the fundamentals of supply and demand? What's abusive about this?By your own account, they're adapting prices to the individual. People that can afford it will pay more, people who can't will pay less, just like with tax brackets.
>>107013857>fascism is when I'm uncomfortable
>>107013833is it price gouging if there is no actual market price?
>>107013833Why doesn't the 6:17 system time match the car times?
>>107014307cab fares are a thing
>>107014343It's the arrive time to your destinationIt's the wait+ride timeYes you will wait 20+ for a 2min driveAnd yes, urban retards see no issue with thisAnd yes, they pay for it, every day and complain about rent prices
>>107013857>fascism is when companies have the freedom to set their own priceswut???
>>107013833literally just reload the app. driver list fluctuates and your webkit shit doesn't auto update properly. its more of fault of chromium than uber.
>>107014369i thought the "2 min" was the wait time for the car. It appears that these screenshots were made at different times and traffic was worse on one day.
>>107013990Supply and demand has nothing to do with whether the price is ethical or not, the fact that prices aren’t transparent between payers makes it abusive.
>>107014428If you want to talk about ethics, forcing a driver to pick you up in a snow storm for the same price as they would on a sunny day doesn't seem fair. Likewise with low reputation riders versus high reputation.
>>107013857jewish chrony capitalism = nazi fascist!
>>107013833nigga just WALK
>>107014428>the fact that prices aren’t transparent between payers makes it abusive.EhhhhhhhhWhen your talking about a very luxury service and it very much is for 99.9% of people, it's hard to necessarily care about consumer rights or ethics, ESPECIALLY when it seems the majority are ok with the policies as they are.For some reason in modern times everyone wants to play this game where the fact the consumer might have to make a choice is somehow a huge problem. If you can't afford the uber, don't take the uber and find someone else. Laws shouldn't need to be written because consumers refuse to make any another choice and break a routine.
>>107013990This is literally the entire reason companies want you to buy things through apps, so they can practice perfect price discrimination. DoorDash is pretty conservative about it and will knock prices down a lot of it thinks you get sticker shock and don't follow through with the order twice in a row. Other establishments actually do this backwards they make the sticker price outrageously high but give you personalized discounts in the app to get you to buy and track your purchases for advertisers.
>>107014428I know that's what you're used to in 20th century-style supermarkets but throughout most of history prices have been negotiated per transaction for most goods most of the time. Quakers (extremist schizos) started public price tags for religious reasons. Making everyone pay the same price for things that between two people could have orderd of magnitude different utility and budget impact is actually quite regressive and a huge market distortion in its own right. Also manhattan has a very high day time car fee these days to reduce road congestion, for all we know the screenshots are from before and after that went into effect.
>>107013833>Are there any laws against technology companies abusing things like this?Yes. On the other side of the pond. In the EU.
I've used Uber literally twice in my life, once when my car battery died on a cold morning to go get a new one and once to get to and from the shop when I was getting some work done. Definitely well under $100 total. It's cheaper and better for society to curry favors with other people for those kinds of situations. It boggles my mind that some people delude themselves into this being their only form of transportation and comparing the math to the payment on a brand new luxury car.
>>107013833Are you retarded? Have you been paying attention? Corporations don’t have to obey the law anymore these days.
>>107013833It shows a different arrival time
>import middle east cultures>gets middle east pricingNo shit!
>>107014789>and better for society to curry favors with other people for those kinds of situationsDespite people living in a city, they are the most friendless people ironically.
>murder the good guys>complain afterwardsYou could've afforded a car too, in a reality where good won against evil
dark mode discount.
>>107013833nigga are you serious rn
>>107013833This company that never turned a profit, in a business model that is only made viable by easily available venture capital money which they use to cover their previous loans, needs to price gouge to pretend to investors that they're good value. I'm shocked, shocked I tell you.
>>107013833Oh, now you care about privacy huh? now it's not a schizo delusion anymore huh?
>>107014450this, that walk is a joke.
>>107015335Friend, your info is a bit outdated; Uber was indeed a money loser propped up by VC funding from its founding until 2022, but in 2023, 2024, and 2025 so far it has posted solid profits. I guess this sort of pricing is working.
>>107015436Of course it works. Over and over and over again. Amazon pioneered it. You basically hemorrhage money in order to corner the market and then, once you have market share saturation at or near your maximum, you jack up your prices and WALLAH, now there's no one to compete with you. Amazon, Uber, even fucking Doordash (what, did you think all those generous refunds were just free money?) have all done it. It's basically Silver Thursday except these companies are buying something even more valuable than commodities: market share.
