This. Handhelds have become a high status simulacrum among manchildren. Any actual kids stick to roblox and battle royale games.
There is a real use case in Japan because they work so much over there a lot of them have to game on commute, which is why the switch had crazy sales.
But the gaymer in the west bought a steam deck because "it's nice to have". It's like yet another addition to their man cave right next to all the collectors edition boxsets and graphics card packaging.
