It's not true, I have never had Windows delete a partition it did not understand without me pressing the wrong dialog button or writing the wrong command. I will believe it till I see it. I dual boot both OS never had the issues Linux users keep claiming exist.
That doesn't mean it's completely a hoax but there is a lack of evidence and recreation to proof it actually happened.
Windows even warns you in the partition manager that there might be an OS or data in a unreadable partition, if you try to delete it.

7800x3d does not need game bar since every core is big cache core.
It's only required on mixed ccd like 7900x3d.
>>
>>107023355
>Yes, I have a 7800x3d, the new scheduler is tied to game bar lmao
If you're talking about "game mode" then its just a setting that game bar automatically toggles for you. Game mode also just changes the process priorities a bit, if you're not CPU bound the difference is probably immeasurable.
>>
>>107023696
Game mode has nothing to do with game bar and it's available on LTSC without it, it changes some system settings when it's detecting a fullscreen app, like notifications or screensaver or power profile.
Game bar is an overlay process that, when launched, gets detected by special amd lasso service, the service then assumes that the parent process of a game bar is a game, and ties that game to X3D CCD.

asking here because i don't know where else, a friend of mine messaged me asking me to find a movie for him. i torrented and i now need to find a way of sharing a 2.5gb file with him, are there any file sharing services that let you upload files this big? or how else could i give him a direct download link?

I haven't done a reinstall since I install windows 10 like 8 years ago, not sure if I'm missing any programs. I got msstore, winget, gamebar, codec extensions and media features if needed for vidya just in case, and GOG offline installers and steam grabs all the redistributables. disabled everything in firewall and settings i didn't need. not sure if i'm missing anything else.

I don't know how interested you're in for another ebook reader, but have you tried Readest? It's basically Foliate (the ebook reader you see posted in those linux desktop threads) for Windows. Probably not the best for pdf documents, but I find it aesthetically pleasing while reading ebooks.
>>
>>107025373
Looks pretty nice, my only issue and why i avoided ebook readers and music players is because from my past experiences with musicbee and calibre is that they like to fuck around with the files and want you to put shit in their own library folders, and I prefer to have stuff ordered in Documents / Pictures / Music in my own way, does this program just open files or does it force it's own file library management too

Both, you can import books in or you can just open the file with the software to read.

been dual booting Windows 10 and 11 even on the same drive for years and I have never had this issue. Granted, the bios has it's own partition priority which detects Linux and Windows and lets you chose which one comes first.

But I also had tried it on PCs with super basic bios and never happened as well. And, in the case that it does happen, recovering the boot partition just needs a Live Linux USB and a command, and that's it

I bought one of the 26tb external HDD's seagate has on sale and I am noticing something wierd

If I copy a directory to that drive, and use the normal windows explorer folder viewer search for the same word in both directories, the copied directory on the external HDD will serve less results: It's not searching within the file's contents or metadata or as many subfolders as it is on other drives

Conversely, I can open images on that drive I can't on other drives due to being past the normal windows path length limit

Anybody know what the cause of the former might be and how to change it? Is it a file system thing (it's ex-fat, which I don't think I've ever used before), or a windows indexing/search setting thing, etc? I'm on Windows 10

Windows Update never deletes and replaces old files, just adds more and more versioned aliases to winsxs.
It getting out of hand with some installs surpassing 64GB was one of the reasons MS switched to semiannually major upgrades that are allowed to purge all the old shit.
>>107030221
Linux just replaces old versions of libraries unless explicitly required and packaged, 99.9% of the time latest generic version is shared by all dependent packages, so size of a fully updated install should never be much different from installed once and frozen.

Its probably because you've formatted it as exFAT, the search in windows makes heavy use of the NTFS indexing capabilities. Also exFAT doesn't even have journalling (it was designed for small removable media but without the FAT32 limitations), you probably really want to use a real FS for a proper drive.

What image viewer are you using? Do you have Win32 long paths enabled?
>>
I think I broke my winget and/or msstore

store apps search by name shows only partial results
"winget list" does not show source or ID for store apps, instead it shows MSIX path like it was sideloaded package
explicitly displaying properties or installing by ID works fine but autoupdate does not list sotre apps at all
UnigetUI does not list most of the store apps at all or lists them in "Local PC" category instead of "MS Store"

Install-Module -Name Microsoft.WinGet.Client
If you can find a way to filter them then I'm sure I or another anon here can help you with a PS script if you need.

Do any of them have updates available? You might find its just a visual bug but they will still update as expected (as it correctly recognised you still have the store package installed).

Oh fuck it's worse than I thought
"winget show" does not display info of installed apps at all, it merely displays most relevant search result from all stores and repos, that may or may not match full name of an installed package.
"Get-AppXPackage" cannot display store package IDs of installed packages.

But there still is a way to get IDs. They are cached in the fucking registry.

>>
>>107032709
Journaling basically makes it that if you somehow have a power outage or remove a disk without safely removing it, the data won't be completely corrupted because it journals what was there and knows what to replace if it might be.

>"winget show" does not display info of installed apps at all

Yes but this means it's also able to handle updating programs/packages that did not originate from winget. Hence there's a chance it can still update your store packages even though winget list doesn't match a store ID

winget list is a plaintext blob that does not contain store IDs nor PS objects that could be explored further.
>>107032917
>Hence there's a chance it can still update your store packages even though winget list doesn't match a store ID.
Or, if you rely ONLY on data from the "list", it can install something absolutely irrelevant. Picrel.

There's still another way to get store URL from full MSIX name and from there you could extract ID by parsing web requests or automating GUI clicks.
Registry lookup is still the least painful and unreliable way to go here.

>>
>>107028630
Yes? It should be pretty straight forward to understand, when you are in the windows installer part where you can choose your partitions and/or where to install the os, you simply just wipe everything except for the D: partition, beforehand check which drive is D:, for example my NVME SSD where I install my OS is a 1TB drive marked as Disk 1 by default, my SATA SSD is easy to spot because it's Disk X and has 500GB, but my HDD is a 1TB Disk 0 so I have to be careful not to wipe that when selecting what to delete and what to keep, learn what number is dedicated to your drive if you have the issue of them being the same size. Also if say your C: partition is the only other disk beyond the D: disk, then you can simply just wipe C: as it'll obviously be a windows partition by default formated to have a boot and a recovery partition, while your D: disk won't have that if it was just formatted for storage.

>Are there any disadvantages to using Win 11 LTSC?
I recommend the iot version, other than it being based on windows 11 24H2 and if gaming is very important playing the latest and greatest you might have problems with anti-cheat software because some these companies don't want you using an EOL version of windows asfaik 24H2 is not yet EOL but when that happens you MIGHT run into these issues not 100% sure.
Because some of them are already forcing things like secure boot.
That version is frozen so in the future you might get problems however if a new ltsc comes out just use that.

>Thanks anon. I fear shit like this. What are your thoughts on Win 11 Enterprise? Is it better for less bloatware than Pro?
Microwin might lower the bloat, if I remember right it is supported. and enterprise supports disabling full telemetry which pro doesn't. but you will have the typical windows 11 problems.

Yes, just like normal Enterprise. Though it sends the absolute minimum system-level shit that's non-revealing of you.

What exactly would be the point of swapping to Windows 10 IoT LTSC if things like Steam/Browsers/Drivers will stop supporting W10 overall in 1/2 years?
Like, yes, you will get security updates but you literally cannot run anything on it and will have to do workarounds 24/7 which will barely work as the time goes on.

This has to be one of the most autistic things I've read on this forum in years

You literally use a separate piece of software to watch the videos, but you still use the actual platform to browse, which is like 95% the interfacing you do with the service other than actually watching the videos, during which it makes zero difference what platform you're watching it on as long as the video is playing??

In what way does it just 'feel' better? Like, are you spending the entire time watching your videos constantly adjusting the volume, and resizing the video?? What the FUCK

Is KB5070773 a preview update? Normally I get an option to install cumulative preview updates if I want but this one isn't labeled as a preview, and yet it hasn't tried to install automatically. Tried looking it up online and some people are having issues installing it on unsupported hardware, but that always seems to be the case with unsupported hardware.

If it's going to get automatically installed later anyway then I'll just wait for it like I usually do cumulative updates. Just thought it was a little weird it's not labeled as a preview. Maybe they want us to install it asap so they removed the preview label? Or maybe they forgot to add the label?
>>
>>107038292
>will stop supporting W10 overall in 1/2 years
Very unlikely, mate. Especially since w10 and w11 have the same kernel, meaning the same drivers apply to both. Any restriction made by software devs would be entirely arbitrary (as anything that has to do with w11 really).
But I don't think Valve, Browsers and such will stop supporting W10 for, at the very least, the 3 more years the ESU will exist. And more surely even longer.
I don't see windows 10 losing support for important software in at least 5 or more years. Definitely not before windows 12 comes out.
>>
>>107039313
I checked and it's an Out of Band update, which means it's usually a hotfix or some quick update they decided to rollout for those who are having problems, in this case an obscure USB bug in WinRE.

Those are not mandatory but they usually come in the next Patch Tuesday anyway

Yes of course it's the same as Enterprise in that regard. But anon asked for something without the bloat, without AI and such. Enterprise still has all the normal bloat of regular editions.
IoT LTSC is the most stable edition.

The purpose of mpv playing youtube videos makes sense when you're using an underpowered machine that can load youtube pages fine enough but struggles with the player itself. Even on modern pcs, youtube's video player sucks dick (and did I mention all of the fucking ads?). Anyway, I agree that's it pretty much mega-autistic to do this, but I'm having a better experience because of it.

I wonder if windows 12 will backtrack on 11's UI regressions, or if it's going to continue the downwards trend from 8 to 10 to 11 of making it a dumbed down touchscreen-friendly OS. I'm hoping for the former.

Bros, I was reading about what windows11 version to get and everyone is recommending iot ltsc, but I read it has some compatibility problems with some programs and some performance problems with some games, is it true?
I thought the iot ltsc version was literally the same as home but with little less bullshit.

Not afaik. What problems or perf issues have you read about?
In my experience, W11 IoT LTSC performs exactly the same as W10 IoT LTSC. That's why I went back to W10 since there was no difference. But this was on my hardware.
The only case I'd think of about LTSC giving you problems is if you used some of the newest Ryzen CPUs that require the fucking game bar to function.

Look no further then into Microsoft's other products.
Did Microsoft go back to making traditional consoles with good exclusives like the 360 or original xbox?
Because that's what people who have been buying these system for the vast majority want.
It can get so much worse then you think.
>>
>>107040134
>I thought the iot ltsc version was literally the same as home but with little less bullshit.
Because it's an LTS(c). If you have never used linux before this might be hard to understand but it's frozen in time and over time you will run into problems because some clown might require you to use new stuff that might be in a future 27H2 that 25H2 doesn't have. (this is not a hypothetical, Microsoft added X12 Ultimate to SAC versions and if you were using an older LTSC or even LTSB you wouldn't have that) At the end of the day iot ltsc and ltsc are really meant for the enterprise who want a stable system not an evolving one and for those who don't want to be forced into microsoft's ecosystem + Windows as a service and want windows as a platform for their applications that's really the only good version.

>>107023099
This was already proven to be bullshit by Linux users in /fglt/. Aside from the fact that Windows does sometimes remove grub after a system update, but there's no data loss there and this issue was fixed in the Windows 11 updater a year ago.

This script helps base mpv be a bit more "feature rich" via mouse clicks plus helps with thumbnails on the seekbar and such.

Seems to be a problem with msstore apps updated or installed outside of winget.
Also some supposedly non-store apps distributed as msixbundle file can get taken over by store and stop getting updates from winget, mostly happens to powershell, windows terminal etc ms apps.
Pic related, I have non-store "Microsoft.WindowsTerminal" installed.
And I do NOT have store "Windows Terminal [9N0DX20HK701]" installed.
And non-store "Microsoft.WindowsTerminal" does not reference store ID [9N0DX20HK701] anywhere in its description.
Guess what happens if I press enter to uninstall [9N0DX20HK701] ?
It will uninstall non-store "Microsoft.WindowsTerminal" (and close its active window)

I have not yet found a reliable fully automatic solution to managing store apps without installing store gui.
Might just keep a note with all the manually installed store app IDs and a script that force reinstalls them on a timer.

I play some games which feature kernel level anticheats and I fear being locked out because I'm stuck on a particular version of IoT LTSC

Hello
I've been trying to block some websites using the hosts file
except everytime When the hosts works, none of the application on my PC can connect to their services
ie I can't log in on steam/discord/whatever
only web browsers work, and I can log just fine on the website of these applications

The hosts file contains a list I got online(easylist I think) + a few additionnal link I added
The list should be the same that mullvad vpn dns block feature use and when I use the VPN, I don't have that issue

Any idea?
>>
>>107041617

Because the link between package in source and installed package is very weak. It can tell that the store package with the given ID is the same as one currently installed and so it will uninstall it. This is just like how you can install programs outside of winget and then still use winget to update them without any extra configuration.
>Might just keep a note with all the manually installed store app IDs and a script that force reinstalls them on a timer.
Once again, have you found an issue with it like the apps won't update through winget even though an update is available or are you just obsessing over the listing?
>>
>>107042337
>I fear being locked out because I'm stuck on a particular version of IoT LTSC
Then just install a newer version? I'm not even an LTSCfag but this is completely a nonissue
>>
>>107042538
But what if an "updated" LTSC isnt even out yet?
Say in 2026 I'll be required to use a version of W11 to play my kernel AC vidya but the LTSC's gonna be out in 2027
>>
>>107042352
Are you blocking any of the domains Windows uses to test internet connectivity?
>everything is being blocked
Its very hard to help without having any info about the additional domains you added or which list you actually got. A good start is for you go through your hosts file and work out which entries are causing the issue.
>>
>>107042529
>Once again, have you found an issue with it like the apps won't update through winget even though an update is available or are you just obsessing over the listing?
Cant reproduce it now since everything is up to date but often winget cannot update powershell or terminal with the error that installation method was different.

>winget cannot update powershell
There's an open issue about this because they were labeling the installer type wrong which recently caused winget updates to fail. This is only a problem with the non-store version though
>>
>>107042553
The chance that they're going to require features past 24H2 in 2026 for a major anticheat are pretty low to impossible.
Also Regular Enterprise 24H2 is supported until end of 2027 so they would be locking GAC users out too.

hey /g/ tech support guy here
i work in a local software house that sells SAS to small business , case being POS for small stores
once about 3 months one specific store can't reach our IP at all, forcing me to install VPN to work properly
yes i'm aware the issue is on the ISP and they already solved this before but it came back after 3 months. also it requires a lot of calls and busywork

any easy way to solve this? or some easy to handle VPN? the people that work on these stores don't even know what is a browser, actually opening a VPN is beyond them

This happened to me once, with Windows auto writing over the header of a Linux partition when I booted from the Live CD. For context, I wanted to install Windows to a certain hard drive but the Live CD just went ahead and reformatted the largest available drive. Luckily it was recoverable and data loss was minimal.

for some reason a small IP range (the last 2 digits) can't reach our website, they simply changed said range last time. still it was a pain for both sides to do it so i'm looking for something easier
for now i installed a VPN and it's working for now. Tomorrow when machine gets booted again the VPN won't be running and the issue will come back
>tell them o open the VPN
they minimum wage workers, they either don't know even that or simply won't bother to do it
>set the VPN to run on boot
for this i'd have to make multiple accounts and install on different machines,, which is a pain. maybe i'll have to do this
