nope, sorry, the market won't

>WEF and Imperial College report warns 5 billion people could face severe water shortages by 2050, costing global GDP 31%, highlighting urgent need for water innovation
>A recent report from the World Economic Forum (WEF) and Imperial College London has highlighted the growing global water crisis, driven by climate change and urban expansion. The report warns that nearly half of the world's population, or about 3.6 billion people, currently face severe water shortages at least once a month, and this number is expected to rise to over 5 billion by 2050.

A global catastrophe reducing the population by 99% isn't entirely unfeasible though. Our infrastructure and logistics are way more fragile than people think, if farmers couldn't get their GMO crops, fertilizer and spare parts/fuel for their tractors then food production would be so fucked that most of humanity would starve to death within the first year.

There's no other habitable planet.
And terraforming anything is out of our reach right now.
The first step toward terraformation would be to understand how to upkeep Earth. And we are currently not able to.

You're a misinformist or a retard if you don't automatically know that there are at least several thousand humans within a population of 8 billion that possess the natural ability to disintegrate microplastics and whatever else you may consider to be inoperable pollution.

The mutation algorithm, while hazardous, is equally boonful. There is almost always an answer to every problem. Can you truly believe that innate miracle to not be god technology? Life is unstoppable.

the idea that humans will wholesale go extinct is sensationalism. we're not even especially likely to hit a malthusian catastrophe. people have been saying two more weeks on that shit since the 1960s yet fecaloids keep breeding.

climate change up to around 3 degrees will, on the longterm, increase the net habitability of earth. Population will likely peak earlier than UN estimates, I personally doubt it will ever exceed 10 billion.

'wet bulb' temperatures, the latest catastrophist doomsday fetish, are mostly a meme. ecological destruction is mostly a meme in that we've already destroyed the ecosystem, humans and domesticated animals make up around 90% of total vertebrate biomass. Chemicals won't halt human reproduction, some of the most polluted places in the world have the most fecund humans and genetic damage from pollutants takes years to build up and those especially vulnerable to it will be weeded out by natural selection.

I'm not even some kind of humanity fetishist that is overly concerned with the survival of the species, this is just the reality.

If you consider capitalism to be just plain property-holding and trading and what-not, then obviously it's here to stay. But when I say capitalism, I mean domination of production and distribution by a merchant class who put their own material gain above any other value. I suppose Mammonism is a better name. It causes the steady decay of a culture, destroying all their values and slowly sucking up all the energy of a people until they've got nothing left. The end result is stagnation and demographic collapse from a mass of beaten down and lifeless slaves.

it won't be this century but humanity will go extinct eventually. it won't be climate change either. this is hyperbole.

an asteroid impact or a super volcano eruption are the most likely causes imo

regardless, given enough time, humans will go extinct due to the Sun slowly getting larger. even a 10% increase from now would make this planet uninhabitable for most animals
>>
>>107026251
If I recall the lore, it expanded to a point where the builders deconstructed entire planets in the solar system for materials as it grew. The builders would also canibalize lower strata to build the higher strata, so you'd occasionally see ancient looking objects despite being on an outward shell.

Don't understand the Redditor obsession with going to Mars. It's not going to be some magical sci-fi paradise where all Earthly troubles are left behind, since the actual colonization of Mars is the interplanetary equivalent of a dude moving into the house right next to his mom's house and taking half her shit with him to decorate. Besides, most of the non-billionaires who get to Mars are going to do fucking shit physical labor, digging trenches and the like, so it's not like their lot is going to be any better there than it is here. Mars is a meme.

Basically this. Population increase has pretty severely stalled globally, at the current rate, its unlikely we will hit 10 billion. Even most African countries have dipped into negative birth rates.

Even India's enormous population boom has slowed significantly. Still overall positive and growing, but it slowed a lot from the 70s until now and its expected to continue to slow over the next decade.
I think the current UN projection is that if birthrates stayed the same as they are RIGHT now, we are projected to hit 9.6 billion by like 2090, but if birthrates continue to trend down globally this severely, we likely won't break 9.5, or even struggle to sustain 9.

Right now we can't even put a person on the surface of the moon, let alone make a habitat for people there. And that's by far the closest celestial body. Unless priorities change on a cultural level, we're not having a moon base in our lifetime, let alone people living on mars. And you're talking a generation ship spending thousands of years going to another solar system? Forget about it
>>
>>107023976
Mars is much worse than that because it has lower gravity and no magnetosphere. Earth will never be as inhospitable as Mars, no matter what we do. A global ice age on Earth would still be 100000x better than a good day on Mars.
>>
>>107030115
This. The "environmentalists" hubris comes from seeing nature as a kind little darling that is both never cruel, and also weak and dainty. Nature (plants, animals, fungi) will always win, it finds a way through natural selection, and that involves species going extinct as they always have.
