What's the best audio solution?

pipewire

pipewire, for both compatibility and performance.

Is there a way to make it not perform crackling noises when running something in Proton?

>>107028398
For me it only happens when something else is playing audio.

Not run it on a 15 year old Chinkpad? I've literally never experienced any crackling when using it, and I regularly play games via Proton with music or videos also playing in the background.

Rinse and repeat for 30 fucking years.

Well what were you expecting on /g/? Tech support?
>>
>>107030683
every linux thread on every website is exactly the same
>>
>>107030668
Everybody else either fixed their fucking problem on their own or asked about it in an appropriate way in an appropriate forum after exhausting their own ability to troubleshoot, providing all the information some chucklefuck in des moines needs to tell you that you didn't set the right configuration flag.

Pulseaudio is still more compatible than pipememe.

I only get this on a single game on my laptop, my desktop and every other game is fine.

Linux is a hobby OS where nobody likes the hobby and find engaging with it as tech support

Try increase buffer size maybe?
pw-metadata -n settings 0 clock.min-quantum 2048[/coide] lets you test out different sizes quickly (won't persist boot)

So, the condition exists across two independant hardware platforms, and no other game exhibits this property?

Have you entertained the notion it's "just that game"?
>>
>>107032177
While it very well could be, I meant that it only happens on my laptop with that one specific game, my desktop is unaffected while running that same game.

Okay thank you I did that and also
winetricks sound=alsa

and also
SDL_AUDIODRIVER=alsa

in the Steam game's launch options, and one of those did work (probably not the winetricks one.)
