Anyone who thinks Windows won't just keep getting worse is delusional. They have no incentive to do anything but squeeze you for more data and forcefeed you more adverts.
main PC (for trading) runs win 7, still getting security updates through ESU program (they are meant for server 08 but work for win7). I'll keep using it until some piece of software I need stops working on win7. when that does, I'll switch to a win 10 PC I just built. The win10 desktop runs LTSC IoT, so I'll get security updates until 2032. laptop runs win10, there's apparently patches to get the ESU updates for free on mydigitallife, but no one will know if it works until November. if I can easily patch, I'll keep it. if not, I'll reformat to win10 LTSC. worried what will happen after that. I can make win11 look and function like 10, but what happens after win 11? MS is assuming the future is just you talking to an AI, so their OS will be made around that. I'm worried I'll have to switch to Linux in the future. not looking forward to that.

>>107029256Windows 10 Enterprise with ESU (kindly given free of charge by massgrave folk), guarantees at least three years of full blown support for everything, practically guaranteed that since both the OS and security will get three years of support for consumer/enterprise grade workstations and that 22H2 is crosscompatible with 25H2 for 99.9% of software/drivers, means that up until October of 2028 there won't be any compatibility issues, as W11 25H2 will also be supported until October of 2028. Now after that, ESU seems to have Patches for years 4-6 too, but they obviously haven't been confirmed by MS, but I see no reason why they won't just cross over patches from LTS builds as 21H2/22H2 are compatible and give us support until 2031 too, but at that point you'll start seeing issues with third party software and hardware having potential incompatibility issues and lack of support.I'll just stick to W10 Enterprise with a local account and EEA region until 2028, then I'll see about upgrading my entire PC, as my motherboard/cpu are at this point pretty aged, 10th gen Intel, and W11 isn't a pleasant experience on that hardware, and I still can't stand the fact that they butchered the start menu which I had neatly organized and optimized for my workflow before, but that might change in three years, who knows. >>107039551This pretty much. Nobody likes the OOBE of Windows 11. I personally can't stand using it for more than ten minutes. Everything is so hostile towards the user. The fact that youtube is plagued with videos about workarounds, fixes, hacks and tricks just to reach the fucking desktop is crazy. Not even iOS, Android, MacOS or whatever other pozzed OS limits you this much, they let you use the fucking hardware you bought, even if "limited". Microsoft needs to step the fuck back at least 15 steps. Go back to the Windows 7 era and make the OS fucking accessible to anyone. If they're gonna sell a literally piece of spyware/adware at least make it so people want to use it. God damn.

>>107029256I started preparing the switch to linux as soon as MS announced Windows 11. It was somewhat clear to me what they'd do with 11: take ownership of my computer, with forced online accounts, extensive telemetry and AI. I was already using linux on my Laptop for years, so the idea of switching to linux on my desktop wasn't that daunting. I do a lot of music recording and production. That was the potential weakspot. But my DAW works natively on Linux and a lot of plugins had substitutes or could be used with wine. I finally switched about 2 years ago and never looked back. Linux isn't perfect but at least my computer is still just that, mine.

I've used Windows for almost 25 years now. But each day I feel like using it less and less.>>Have you ever tried Linux (distro)?Yes. In fact, I'm using it right now. Fedora Kinoite. It is a really good breath of fresh air.>>Why don't you daily drive Linux?I'm starting to. Out of my three machines (1 PC, 2 Laptops - old and new) Only my PC has Windows on it. I use it only for gaming, watching stuff connected to my main TV. The old laptop has Zorin and the new one, which I'm posting this from, has Fedora.>>Bothered by MS and privacy stuff? Is that even a question? jeetcrosoft can fuck the right off. >>107029672cope. multimedia editing is better on linux
>>107029256The hate for Win 11 is overblown, more or less every single issue people screech about it has is also present in Win 10, and both needs to be heavily configured to be usable to begin with. That said after dual booting for like 7 years I switched to exclusively using Linux a few months ago since Windows kept blue screening on me. I was planning on re-installing Windows on an old SSD just to have as a backup for Photoshop and shit, but I couldn't be fucked. Maybe I'll get around to it some day.

>>107029256I'm on linux since whenever ubuntu 14.04 came out but switched away only because i really disliked them ditching unity for gnome. I'm on fedora with KDE ever since then. I switched originally because windows 10 was such a downgrade compared to 7 and 7 was a insufferable spyware too.

>Current Windows Version?Currently none. I used windows 11 for 3 years on my 2022 Acer Nitro 5 but I made the switch to pop! _os a few days ago because windows 11 mad my computer very slow and full of bloatware. >Opinion on Windows 11?It was usable in the beginning but overtime the use of copilot and Xbox game bar and more got pushed on my face and I prefer to use chat gpt instead of copilot. Also, it started taking 15 minutes just to fully turn on and it became painful to Even use my computer. Pop!_OS makes my computer feel good as new again and I finally don't dread using it anymore. >Usecase?Gaming (I was an extremely heavy Skyrim modder for 2 years and I also love emulating games and always have since 2013), I used to use it for college before I started working in a bank, discord for calling and texting>Have you ever tried Linux (distro)?Yes, I tried elementary os, lubuntu, manjaro, and now Pop! _OS and I've been using linux to resurrect old computers and speed up decent ones since 2017.>Why don't you daily drive Linux?I daily drive linux now because Pop! _OS runs my games and emulators and stuff from steam and also runs chrome and discord fast as well as no more bloatware. I didn't daily drive linux in the past before pop os because in the 2010s, it did not really support games that much so I dual booted with windows. >Bothered by MS and privacy stuff? Not particularly, I just hate bloatware that came pre-installed and the artificial obsolescence that windows did each update to my Acer Nitro 5.
>>107040224I agree with you about windows 11, I only put up with that flaming garbage bag for 3 years just so I could mod Skyrim properly but once I finished the quest mods (I finished some of the biggest and best ones), I realized I wasn't going to put up with windows 11 anymore and just switched back to linux completely which I was using before windows 11. I also think that windows 10 was the last tolerable windows.

>>107042820What is the appeal of using a Mac? I'm curious. For me I can't bring myself to buy one due to the price in my country and the lack of USB ports for my many usbs, however if someone one day gave me a Mac, I would simply install linux on it anyway and make it my secondary computer alongside the 2022 Acer Nitro 5.
upgraded my "unsupported" Dell 5577 to 11 and it works perfectly, no slowdowns at all after benchmarksi feel like a moron for buying a new laptop a few months ago just because of Microsoft's fake end of support scarewhat can i say, it has games, the UX is better, and for work WSL is a killer featurerunning Alpine (i3) on my 2 core, 4gb oldest potato
>>107041389Exactly, I get what you mean, another reason why I switched to Pop! _OS is because windows 11 caused so many bluescreens for me and this is the reason aside from the bloatware for me fully switching to linux.
>>107029256>Current Windows Version?10 LTSC>Opinion on Windows 11?Unusable, buggy, laggy, restrictive, spyware-ridden steaming pile of shitEvery single thing is worse than 7/8/10 except for a few kernel jerry-rigged patches for newer CPUs made by indians or LLMs forced by deals with Intel>Usecase?Gaming>Have you ever tried Linux (distro)?Started tinkering with it around 2006Started actively using it around 2010>Why don't you daily drive Linux?I do, in all devices + dual boot on gaming PC>Bothered by MS and privacy stuff?Of course, who isn't?
