I made a 500gb .vc file with veracrypt and I also made a 250gb partition inside of it.
I think I used ntfs format or ext3 format but the program said that the partition can't be exact and that the hidden partition can be overwritten or something like that.

What I want is to write and move tikes in the outer partition and the hidden partition but I written once in both disks and veracrypt said that the program tried to overwrite the hidden partition and aborted and that I have to redo everything but I haven't seen any corruption.

I'm also selecting the protect the hidden partition option when I open the other one, what should I take from this messages?

As long as I keep both partitions below 240gb should I be fine, am I always at risk or what?

why does each device in my network need an assigned private ip address when mac addresses exist?
instead of the receiving packet or frame being destined to my private ip address, couldn't that be my mac address instead?

My monitor seems to be dying - a chinkshit gsync monitor from second wave/late first wave (before the selection of freesync monitors was any good). Most obviously the backlight but it could be more as I'm not sure exactly what mechanics from what component reveal what effects. I'd like to restrict the damage a compromised PC can do by not having that PC ever able to access the NAS config so it is unable to delete snapshots or stuff like that. I just want the gaming PC to have basic access to some folders from shares and read-only access to others.

It's/they're not being blocked in my pihole, they are loading fine on mobile data or with Tor and by friends, but not on my normal network. Router isn't blocking it either.

Tracert for all of the affected sites points to things being lost at twelve99.net, which as far as I know is Aerlion upstream dns stuff that the ISP uses.

I called my ISP and they said they don't block anything themselves, and when the tech tried pulling it up himself it was also timing out. He asked the network guy above him and was told that there's some outage somewhere that's telling their own DNS that it's just broken, despite the fact that it's loading everywhere else I try/ask.

Probably Steam would support the DAS if it gets recognised as a secondary drive. But a DAS is 1000% overkill for what I've got in mind here. The gaming rig has a 1TB main drive which will eventually run out. But Steam allows games to be installed on alternative hard drives, which suits, say indie games or games that don't need SSD read speeds.
On a tower build, the best option is a cheap 4TB 3.5 disk and have done with it. But the 2.5 inch form factor with the mini-itx case is complicating this. Maybe I'm just better off with an SSD. There doesn't seem to be as much price difference in the 2.5 inch form factor.

The big issue that my household is facing right now is whenever anyone moves from upstairs to downstairs or the other way around, their device refuses to switch to the stronger signal. The main router is upstairs and an AP downstairs, I've tried having them both share the same SSID, different SSID, tweaking the channels and what have you but it never fully resolves this until the user manually connects to the stronger signal or turns off and on their WiFi. On the Ubiquiti APs I have there's a little tick box for 'roaming assist' that does a good job of kicking off this kind of device that behaves 'sticky' to an AP. If it detects a client's signal on it's current AP is weaker than it can see it via the other AP, it disconnects it and forces it to roam to the other one. If your current kit is different makes and models then you're probably going to need to swap to a single brand to get that ability, but I don't think it's specific to stuff that's branded as 'mesh'. I set up MinGW on a W11 partition and as in years past it has done the opposite of save me Windows-related headache.
If I set up a folder for SDL and add all of the demanded redundant path env lines in Windows settings, gcc still has muh fatal error no such thing as SDL .h
If I paste the headers in with the c file itself it of course cannot detect them

I have three monitors on my desk and one TV in the room
On Windows 11 when I turned on the TV all my monitors turn off and switches to single display on the TV

Will a bigger PC case actually improve airflow enough that my GPU won't ramp up to 100% fan usage even while temps are below 80c and usage is below 80%?

I can't stand to hear the god damn fans ramp up whenever I play any game without DLSS. Reminds me of the PS4 era.

I still play on PS4, I just change my thermal paste every 6 months or so and it's fine. Maybe consider cleaning your hardware, and or using water cooling.

a friend asked me for help, so I forward the question to the wise counsel:
(friend) has to record a webex meeting so they can be afk for a while and catch up later, what are some no nonsense screen recorders for macos? (or whatever apple laptops are running on nowadays)
they're not super tech savvy, so plug and play is preferred. I also don't want to subject them to bloatware or ads, also preferably downloadable directly from the appstore or whatever its called.

I don't have a Mac either, but if you go to https://obsproject.com/download you click the apple icon and I imagine if it's a newer mac that has the M processors, you probably want the arm version.

This rabbit hole is giving me a headache.
-fps_mode vfr gives me 200+ fps and smaller file size
-fpsmax 30 gives me over a million fps, not as small as fps_mode but smaller than cbr

I have a Ugreen CM559 RTL9210B enclosure that has an isolated issue with an included cable.
>C to C cable works perfectly @ 10Gbps
>C to A works fine for any 5Gbps slot

None of the marketing material seems to indicate that it's not a 10Gbps cable, but another C to A cable works perfectly fine and doesn't cause issues. I'm guessing that it's just that specific cable marginally negotiating 10Gbps with a poor design/shielding, which is then blasting EMI through the motherboard. Maybe this is just C to A being shit? The weird part is, it seems to be able to test at the rated 10Gbps with that cable, although I haven't done sustained tests somewhat out of fear.

I feel like this is not stupid enough as an /sqt/ question, but oh well...

I downloaded Loud House season 1 and for all episodes the subtitles show up too early. The problem I have is that the subtitles are hardcoded into the .mkv so I unless I manually change it every time, for every episode, it won't be synced. I'm not doing it manually, is there a software or anything I can use to do it all for me?
I know of SubSync but that only works with an external text file for the subtitles

I've been getting a lot of BSODs lately, always on startup or a few minutes after starting up. Whocrashed gives me this stuff but I don't know what any of it means, does anyone here have any idea what I should be doing with this to fix my BSOD problem?
Whocrashed also said there was a problem with amdkmdag.sys but that was in a much earlier report, and I already uninstalled all of my AMD drivers completely, used the utility to make sure there was nothing left on my computer, then fully reinstalled them. I don't think amdkmdag.sys is the culprit here.

how is it a dice roll? sata SSD's just work, make sure AHCI is enabled in the bios hard drive options

is there any reason a /g/entleman wouldn't choose a rugged phone over a regular phone, just for reliability and durability alone?

You can buy cases and screen protectors for a regular phone but with a rugged one you can be sure it will survive thousands of falls whereas you can't with a regular one

Huh, this Toshiba Satellite A120 seems to just freeze upon pressing the BIOS setting button (apparently F2). Pressing Esc and going to the F1 setup isn't helpful, just dates and boot order.

What is a good extension for Chrome that disables unused tabs to save on memory?
I used to use the extension "FreeTabMemory" but it turned out to be adware and I had to go through a whole process of deleting it from my computer. I looked up extensions that serve this function, but I don't know which ones are trustworthy considering FreeTabMemory wasn't.
