This is often exemplified by massive tech corporations with large bureaucracies whose sole goal is maximizing shareholder value even if it means shipping complete garbage to users. These corporations had a phase where they were doing extremely performative progressive politics, so that's probably why you associate being "political" with making bad software. In reality they are orthogonal things. You can be political and technical and you can be apolitical and technical. What matters for software quality is that you are technical.
