how do i go from 0 to making music i can enjoydo i have to read the 1000 pages website about music theory
>>107056215you can find the tutorial mentioned in this video online for free if you look:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_003IUkZ4F4if you want to make some songs you enjoy this will get you going. it is appropriate for someone asking your question.
>>107049576cheers will get started on it now :)
is having monitor speakers a waste for most home producers? most ppl would need way more treatment than they usually have in order to get the sound they think they need...better to just use headphones that emulate different environments and then test in car
>>107054667does that shit still get views? i feel like i saw those over a decade ago at this point
>>107056754I would say so, as long as you have a few different references to play your stuff on, it's one of the last things you need
I want to make synthwave/trance just with code,. without a DAW. What technology should I use? Csound? Faust? Supercollider?
>>107057968>just with codeDefine what you meanDo you want to generate the sound from scratch with code? Then you'll want some kind of audio library to let you build arrays of audio samples and send them to the OS to play. Then you can synthesize the samples via code, sequence them, mix them, and play them. I've used NAudio for C# and it was fine. I also used the XAudio2 library which is part of DirectX, and it's a bit more powerful but probably harder to use (I used an old deprecated C# wrapper for it).If you don't want to synthesize the sounds yourself, you have some options: you can load audio files from a hard drive and play those, which will be similar to above you'd just have to read the data. If you want to outsource your audio generation to something else, like a VST plugin, then set aside like a year minimum if you want to do it yourself, though you can also maybe use something like JUCE.

I hate mixing bros...Also I don't understand the submission process. So I hope this counts as interaction with the thread at least.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q-Gi3I-_dUAhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=up3t2IuaJKAhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0jtVoTwTWxchttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-mGFz93HsPo
>>107060592A submission just has to loosely fit the themePost it here and make it clear it's a submission and give its titleUploading in a lossless format just means providing a link to your submission where your original render (like a .wav file) can be downloaded in its full quality. If uploaded to something like the popular Vocaroo site for listening, that site reprocesses your upload to a lower quality and shouldn't be used for submissions

You need to work on the core elements of the genre and properly tune in to why people listen to this stuff. There's no /HqXZARxwd hooks, the mix is bad and worst of all its completely forgettable. You needs to try harder and put the work in because this isn't good.

I have nothing to do this weekend at all. Maybe I will install a DAW finally and actually try to make some music
>>107068276It's about damn time
>>107068954Or I can keep working on coding my own DAW without having any first hand knowledge of how music is actually created?
>>107069366How would you know what to make or improve without having extensively used a DAW?
Yes, you can really just let the arpeggiators do all the work for you!And it's free to do!
>>107069366>>107070090The music software industry in a nutshell
>>107070090>>107070621I watched a few videos and then just kinda winged it
>>107072169If you don't have expectations of people using it, then go for it.It'll probably be fun/rewarding, and maybe you'll have some crazy unique ideas, in a sort of outsider artist deal.
>>107072257I did start on one when I was unemployed last year. I posted some screenshots and webms here. It was the touch screen MIDI sequencer for live production thing. I started working on adding VST support and made some progress, but then I got a regular job again and haven't worked on it in a while.

Are we doing idea submissions for the next album yet?
>>107073397theme is space, for the one after you can say your idea whenever
>>107073431Right, I meant the one after space. I have a theme idea. Maybe I'll let it percolate in in my head a bit longer, perhaps I can think of an adjective or adverb to put in front of it, so it becomes a real winner
How do you backup your stuff? You do back it up, right?I keep a couple local backups and also an automatic online online. In case a nuke or an asteroid hits, otherwise my place is pretty safe, regarding fire, floods, that kind of stuff.
>>107072346>haven't worked on it in a whileI'd expect a hard time getting back into it.
>>107074074I slapped everything into OneDrive for the time being.
>>107074116Eh, maybe. It was complicated as hell, but if I remember correctly it was pretty well engineered under-the-hood, which is probably why development went so slow. I use the same programming language in my day job, so that would make it easier. The VST stuff was just hard as hell though...

VSTs used to have soul....heat vents, wood finishing, metal screws...... now it's all so flat and souless.....
Fixed my rending problem in FLno matter what settings I tweaked some 3rd party plugins would render all fucked up via the standard 'export as' renderingbut on the master channel you can just go to File -> disk recording -> and render the selected track the same way as it plays back in the DAW
>>107079227have you tried this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0_QE1Ci_7TY
>>107079333Yeah the FL Studio settings have changed quite a bit in the 15 years since that video was made lolfixed sized buffers were already disabled in the wrapper's troubleshooting settings where that option seems to be now.Maybe I'll try experimenting with turning them on?Everywhere says not to/you really shouldn't be needing it but I'll try itI tried tons of stuff, googling, AI, none of it helped. Happy with the mixer rendering as I was recording into Edison beforehand, much slower....

All I had to do was send a photo of my Arturia controller to Ableton and they gave me a free Lite license
>>107081700Im still on 10, so I may beg them to get the current version for cheap. I'm poor after all.
>>107082386Well the long story for me is I wanted to activate the "Lite" license that came with my MiniLab Mk II, but it wasn't showing up on my Arturia account. Idk if it was time limited after I registered or something and I lost it, but it just wasn't there. (I did buy and register it last year). Then I found a form on the Ableton site to get a replacement license. All I had to do was submit a photo of my receipt or photo of my device... and I got it a couple hours later, on a Saturday even. I included the serial number in my photo, but idk if that was necessary.
>>107078151What's even weirder is how the flat synths look like they eat more CPU than the skeuomorphic ones to me.
>>107082500>and I got it a couple hours later, on a Saturday even.Nice.Is lite what you are looking for? To try out if you like the DAW?Having a quick look at it, the major limitation seems to be only having 8 audio and MIDI tracks?
>>107083120Yeah, I just wanted to try Ableton, and since it supposedly came with my controller, why not
>>107083679Cool, have fun!I started with fruityloops in like '99, cubase from around '03 to '10, since then Ableton. Fits my work flow and requirements best.
>>107050167>It's chizos fault that people are bad at musicnah if anything shitposting keeps this thing alive it's just lately garbage practices like shills and low quality slop is criticized harshly and retards that come here in hopes to get easy you's are discouraged from posting. I for once am ok with this gatekeeping arrangement. Also last theme was bad pick for everyone.
Is there a way in Kontakt 6 to check which libraries a track is trying to load?I had some SDD trouble with my VST storage and had to move some files, and when I'm looking through old Reaper project files it's kind of a pain to trial and error check exactly which VST I was using for a track sometimes.
>>107084435>which VSTwhich Kontakt library
>>107083918take /prod/ as an example what /dmp/ shouldn't be but always has more posters because>is posted on actual music board>50% of posters are shills>another 30% are very very bad slop posters just fishing for you's>10% actually OK people>10% mass repliers also fishing for you's after posting generic feedbacks
>>107083918>shitposting keeps this thing aliveWhich wouldn't be necessary if extreme shitposting didn't drive everyone away in the first place.>it's just lately garbage practices like shills and low quality slop is criticized harshly and retards that come here in hopes to get easy you's are discouraged from posting. This has never been a significant problem.

>>107084953I already have some kinda space themed songs. But it's probably better for me to make a new one just for this.Reason: i need to get back into making music, neglected it for years because of reasons.
