Do normies actually use arrow keys to move around when programming?
>>
I use the mouse.

I mapped '<-' as another modifier. I use this palm press way but with the right hand and the arrow key
>>
>>107053690
Vim is shit but vim motion is good.

I do

I have my arrows on the nav layer, activated by the middle left thumb button.
>>
i have caps bound as second fn key and have fn+wasd bound to arrows
don't even need to move my hand

what, am I not allowed to anymore? how am I supposed to move the cursor when writing now? reach the mouse every time? what is wrong with the arrow keys?
>>
Yeah but I started in the DOS era
>>
>>107053660
i'm a numpad nigga myself. having home/end/pgup/pgdn/del available without moving my hand is very convenient
>>
>>107053785
you have to use the flippin vim motions
>>
>>107053660
Yeah. I also use
>control to jump whole words
>home/end to jump to start/end of line
>shift to paint
>>
it gets even crazier: normies actually have a dedicated number pad for wagecucking, and boomers piss all over themselves if you tell them to just use jkl numlock
>>
>>107053660
My arrow keys specifically are super close to the rest of the keys, so I got used to just using them instead of indulging into hjkl fuckery.
>>
>>107053785
Ctrl+A Delete, then type the entire thing again
>>
>>107053660
i use them when i don't want to exit insert mode in vim, but i recently switched over to vi compatible mode, so probably not using arrows any more.
>>
>>107054590
>control to jump whole words
>home/end to jump to start/end of line
I always find it wild how people who work on a computer in which they type shit every day spend years/decades never doing this kind of thing.
>>
Yeah, I use it for alt+arrow key shortcuts
>>
>>107053660
>normies
>programming
no such thing. normies think all programmers are perma-virgin weirdos and guess what
>>
>>107053785
If your already moving you're hand away from home row, may as well use the mouse.
>>
>>107054622
numpad is anti-tranny protection. I think I'll order a few numpads and keep them around my desk just so they protect from the homo demons
>>
>>107055428

that doesn't make any sense. separate numpads are so hot right now, everyone is asking for them. some dude even made a Nuphy Air numpad concept on plebbit and everyone is drooling over it

60% is still bloat.

Nobody told me this, I found it on accident this year.

>dumb nigger consoomers cant into keybinds
its really sad what this board has become
>>
>>107055943
yeah! why don't they write that on the keys?
>>
>>107053785
using vim motions (HJKL) solves this problem althoughbeit there are many inconvenient keys regardless.
>made a mistake
take a trip to backspace
>numbers
take a trip to numpad
>special characters
with skill you can hit them without looking but lets be honest you'll miss 40% of the time

the only pure typing experience is typing words only like some kind of fucking journalist
>>
>>107053660
They use the mouse, sperg.
>>
>>107055268
Home row never clicked (heh) for me. I just chicken peck at 100wpm which isn't blazing fast but its good enough for pro gramming.
>>
We use
Ctrl + n (next line)
Ctrl + p (previous line)
Ctrl + b (back character)
Ctrl + f (forward character)
>>

>take a trip to backspace
CTRL-h, or just ignore it and fix everything when you're finished inserting.

>numpad
>special characters
Skill issue.
>>
>>107053660
usecase for moving around?
just write your code in one go
>>
>>107053660
What do you use instead? I use them all the time in Emacs.

>>
>>107057347
Extremely based. I tried using Vim keybindings again after getting used to Emacs keybindings for months, and it feels like I'm cucking myself. The keybindings in insert mode are complete garbage, so you constantly have to switch between insert mode and normal mode.
>>
>>107056501
The most important thing is not too look. I could never touch type the numbers before I did home row because my hands were all over the place. In the long run looking down for numbers and symbols made my neck hurt.
>>
>>107053660
I have a layer on right alt with hjkl -> arrow keys and some other stuff. I have to use visual sneed at work, and they always break my customisations so I've started just using my own keyboard layer (using keyd, I connect remotely) to press their shitty default keybinds.

I do, but they are much closer on my keyboard.

>>107053660
VSCode has that sikk shortcut to span the cursor across as many lines as you want at once. Sometimes it's useful... I use MnK though.
>>
After switching to colemak I started to appreciate that vim keys support arrows by default. I have arrows in another layer.
>>

Normies do, but everybody should use vim motions, they are lingua franca.

>>
>>107055268
do you also own and use a 60% keyboard?
>>
>>107053660
normies don't program retard, they're too busy watching sportsball and complaining about politics
>>
>>107053660
Have you seen laptop keyboards? Most of them have those tiny arrow keys which are annoying to use.
>>
>>107060459
I think so. It's definitely lacking the numpad, arrow keys and F keys, but I don't know what % it is. It's split too.
>>
I like the vim movement keys but i absolutely do not need any of the other crap. what are my best options for this?
>>
when i use vim i still use the arrow keys
>>
i used to have emacs key bindings in web browsers but bassi usecased them with gtk4 so no i'm forced to use ctrl-arrow to move
>>
Vim is great if you are working over a ssh connection but for local stuff I'd rather eat my own shit than edit a large mass of text in vim.
>>
>>107055910
Why the fuck would I spend $100 + $100 + tax + tip + shipping + tithe + hours of my day putting them together when I can get a complete keyboard for $10 bucks from the nearest non-fagman store?
