What dogshit.
I bought the affinity suite about a year ago and the more I use it the more I want to tear my hair out. The only reason I use it is because I wanted an alternative that ran well on my laptop. That it does, but it's missing even basic features that open source software covers.
Now as a kick in the dick they just put it out for free full of shady nonsense. God knows I don't ever want to deal with Adobe but fuck
>>

>>
>>107056559
How's Photoshop on Linux these days? Both CS6 and the subscription suite.
>>
People never learn; it is always FOSS or bust.
Instead of paying $300 for Photoshop, you could simply send this money to a Krita contributor to make it worth his time to fix your niche issue.
>>
>>107056579
I haven't tried running it for a long time.
I heard of many scripts out there to get those programs running but the last time I tried (mainly because I wanted Illustrator more than Photoshop) I would always get the program to run once, then crash every time after through Wine.
I remember at some point in time I would use it through a virtual machine to overcome some issues. But then certain graphical features weren't available.
There is a Photoshop alternative people don't know about that actually runs on Linux, but I got a few crashes with it a while ago: AliveColors. It's not amazing, but I found it more usable than something like GIMP and recently it has gone free for personal use (with the only condition that you sign up to their fucking newsletter).
>>
>>107056633
my niche issue is I want enterprise grade software that feels pleasant to use.
>>
>>107056633
I don't think $300 can completely overhaul Krita's interface and get rid of qt6 dogshit ugliness overall
>>
>>107056633
My niche issue is that I disagree with fundamental design and technical decisions when it comes to Krita, so who's going to take developing a CS6 tier PS and illustrator replacement for $300? Any takers?

very nice. i just assumed the initial startup was account gated.
i expect to see a pirated version soon anyway because a number of the ai model features are actually locally run and just locked artificially.

newer photoshop basically adds nothing that you need for memes and sketching/scaffolding. i used to use photoshop7 for all my needs.

I've been using Affinity since 2017 and I do have mixed feelings about this. It's good that the base package of Affinity is now free-of-charge for everyone, but you cannot use it without a Canva account (you must be signed in at all times and signing out will close the app) and certain features are locked behind a monthly subscription, turning Affinity into cloud-ified freemium software. It raises questions, how much more of Affinity will be absorbed into the Canva cloud from now on?

I've had my doubts towards Canva's acquisition of Serif last year and I've found myself leaning toward Krita, Inkscape and Scribus over time anyway, probably a good thing if Affinity goes past the point of no return.

They changed the way the brush system works. You can no longer stroke a shape or path with a raster brush. If you want a free vector app with no telemetry just use Inkscape.

A good time to fund FOSS alternatives.

newer photoshop versions add dpi scaling which is quite needed for high resolution monitors

Krita is not Photoshop.

And as much as GIMP tries to be it: It's not Photoshop either with that atrocious UX they never bothered to license GIMPshop for.

Face it, Tiger. Adobe has a stranglehold on good UX.

yes you can. the 'path brushes' are just raster brushes, but they're applied non-destructively.
i'm pretty sure this is always how it's worked in affinity.

Now that I think about it, if I would say use their software to make a mickey mouse fan art. Will they invoke rule 9 and ban me for copyright infringement?
Or would it only happen if Disney pay them to do so, perhaps also use it as a excuse if I have done something to anger them(like posting a negative review on youtube).

Well fire it up. Pick the pen tool. Pick a raster brush. The brush won't appear on the path. Draw a circle. Pick a raster brush. It won't stroke the circle.

>rules about what you can make with it
>telemetry phoning home the images you make
No thanks, I'm sticking with Kira.
