convince me to give a fuck. the floor is yours.
Because if you don't give a fuck, then the (censored race) will win and our kids will become more and more (another censored pol related term). But if that's not relevant to you, then not giving the fuck is the correct answer. Caring to much makes you a little bitch.

>>107061602Nah, i think thats just how /g/tards think. They don't need a reason, only a narrative to hold on to. Maybe someone out there has a good set of reason to not use systemd, but the majority is just following a meme they heard and filling in the gaps with retarded ideology
>>107061629>They don't need a reason, only a narrative to hold on to.like the dead internet theory?kek. look into a mirror sometimes

>>107061506because systemd is just not like the other.it will never be a real init system.its an affront to what a classic init system means, which is text>binary, lightweight, elegant and traditional.systemd will always be an oversized blob which strikes the eye and the soul of true unix patricians.
>>107061567They are not twinks, they are jews.
using sysvinit feels like using nothing at all. thats how lean and invisible it is.your computer services just spawn as if by magic and pure willpower.
>>107061896both belong in arbeidslagers
>>107061889alt inits need more love
>>107061506the problem with systemd is that it is not merely an init system but a gigantic amorphous blob of a software suite that basically hijacks your entire system and bloats it up with a bajillion tools that nobody outside of a corporate setting would ever need. actual init systems like runit handles services and nothing else, which gives you a much clearer overview of your system. if you want some systemd feature, its usually easy to find an alternative that works even better
>>107061506I could eat all of that, the 4 twinks included>>107061985Linux noob here, like op i also want to switch out of sysD because the memes. From what i read so far dinit is the new kid on the block and kicking ass, but openrc is apparently the mature stable init with great documentation. My question is, out of the two, which init system would be better for creating an audio workstation on an old laptop. I know that the init system doesnt really play a crucial role for optimizing audio production workflow, but theyre supposed to be less bloated than sysD which imo is always good to use less resources on old hardware.
>>107062494i'd say the oldest is often the lightest but there are some newer ones who focus on being light so i dont know.i am into audio and as long as you don't have fancy-pants daemons or services hogging stuff in the background, your init system is not exactly relevant.there are tweaks for audio which would be more important like looking over everything which influences latency.there are some kernel tweaks you should search for, there is at least some scheduler tweak for the kernel, it really depends on what distro. the easiest is to just copy the configuration of an existing kernel from an existing audio-oriented distribution or even straight up using that.
>>107062494basically, tweaking the scheduler same thing as on windows. its about how quickly a task can gain cpu time.if you have a slower scheduler it will be less responsive but already running programs will be able to run more smoothly.on the other end you have responsive scheduler which gives gives cpu time to new stuff much quicker.this is an important choice not only for audio but really depends on your workload.
>>107062494here is a whole paper on scheduling and how it pertains to professional multimedia, understanding the difference will save you much tweaking later.https://www.dgp.toronto.edu/~dannyt/os_res5.pdf
>>107062494>which init system would be better for creating an audio workstation on an old laptopI don't think it would matter. you could run pipewire on both I assume (not sure what compatibility layer you'd use for it, but you can run pipewire-alsa, pipewire-pulse and pipewire-jack and pick on a by-program basis), at least I do on dinit and my distro has service files for bothif you pick dinit you'll likely be locked to one of the very few distros that uses it, that's the only downside I can see if you don't like any of them
>>107062494>>107062602https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earliest_deadline_first_schedulingthis is what the paper refers to so many times.and this is the linux kernel implementation https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SCHED_DEADLINEpersonally, i've only used av linux and ubuntu studio and they probably configured their kernel the right way out of the box.
