Which one is better? I need one with Wifi so I can't use JetKVM.
>>107061524none, all cheap KVMs are trash. even the $250+ ones have issues its a flawed technology
>>107061628What sort of issues? Is there a KVM which connects automatically to a (self-hosted?) proxy or service so that it works without having a public IP? Use case is giving it to my parents and being able to connect to it without them having a dedicated IP.
>>107061524the solution is to never do something that ends up with you requiring a kvm.
>>107061524These "IP KVMs" are all bullshit garbage. What people really want are IPMI cards.Asrock made them for about 5 minutes then realized they cannibalized their server board market.
>>107063888I'll take you seriously when you show how to put that card into a laptop.
>>107061524Which one of the two is open source? I wouldn't trust any of these KVMs if they are closed source.
I actually bought a JetKVM. Theres definitely a reason these things have wired ethernet. If you just want to use a single GUI I find that X server tunneling via ssh is more consistent. The only reason you would have this is if you somehow needed to reboot the machine or mess with the bios remotely.
Which one of these is open source?
>>107064968Ill take you seriously when you stop using a laptop.
>>107061524>Which one is better? I need one with Wifi so I can't use JetKVM.They are all fine, but wifi is a big ask.
I'll ask here because it seems like you guys might know a solution to my problem. My computer is in my bedroom so that's where I spend most of my time but I want to start spending more time in my lounge, but I don't want to just move my computer there or get a second one. So something like a KVM seems like it could do the trick, however I'm not finding anything that can do 4k at 60Hz and even for this 30Hz the price seems a bit high for what it does (£170). Also while running another network cable up to my room is doable it seems a bit silly, does there not exist something that can also passthrough an internet connection using the same cable? And finally how do these things actually handle the switching, like if I've got another keyboard and mouse downstairs in my lounge what is to prevent say my cat bumping it and taking over control while I'm doing stuff upstairs, or if I'm watching a film on my tv I don't want it also coming out of the speakers in my room and have to turn those off every time.
>>107068222What you have is a KVM extender, completely different from the devices in OP.4k60 is a big ask for a KVM-anything, you're in $1000+ territory per device.
>>107068222Don't use a KVM switch. Use an active USB/hdmi extender. That'll be good for most houses. Beyond that there are extenders over ethernet cable, usb/hdmi input to converter through CAT to converter back to usb/hdmi.
>>107070067You've managed to tell anon to not use a device he didn't ask about, and instead use the device he did ask about, while also completely ignoring his question.
>>107068222Why can't you just use a streaming service like parsec or sunshine/moonlight. They're free and have android, PC, and tv clients.Buy an Nvidia shield tv or a cheap Android tv dongle with a USBC dock and you're done.
I use a PiKVM, it just werks. Also I might change the SD card and put some Linux distro on it.
>>107070067>>107070134I was gonna say, is the thing I posted not basically that? I wasn't sure if it still counts as a KVM but that's what it's labelled as. A lot of KVMs seem to be intended to use two or more computers with a single keyboard/mouse and display but I want to share a single computer among multiple displays and input devices.>>107070258That does sound like a more logical and cost effective solution. I had a look at parsec and it's a subscription service but Moonlight could do the trick. It sounds like Moonlight doesn't do so well for just sharing the desktop (additional overhead causing lower framerates) compared to when it's game streaming and Sunshine doesn't have this issue but looks to be too complex for me. I'll look into this more though.
>>107071107I should do my due diligence and mention there is a fork of sunshine called Apollo that is vastly improved and has additional settings that might interest you.
>>107063888Cloudlfare has their Argus openbmc board but it's an OCP DCI-SCM/SCI connector. Either way, ACCEPT THE NOISE AND BUY SERVER GRADE HARDWARE YOU MINI LAB FUCKING FAGGOTS I HATE YOU FUCKING DIE
>>107063888https://www.servethehome.com/the-ocp-dc-scm-hff-is-taking-over-our-guide-asus-dell-supermicro-gigabyte-flex-wistron/The BMC is no longer supposed to be attached to the motherboard for security and independence, anyway. The boards exist just not in PCI-E cards.
