For all your talk about privacy and security, you never seem to bother addressing your smartphone being as stock as it was a decade ago, sending telemetry on everything you do, personally identifying you to every service you access on it through phone number verification... quite frankly I would be surprised what company didn't know who you were intimatly sleeping with as you skimmed passed the privacy policy on the sound recorder.

The point is, all your work has been completely moot, when you still have a phone number tying your identity to everything, always cross-referencable. If you have been using a default Chromium browser on your Chinse phone to shop for products while using other applications on it, is it really anything more than placebo?

I would imagine this is all because a disappointing number of "technology" enthusiasts on this board fail to even have the attention span necessary to gain root access on their device.

Actually, having my information farmed and taken, used to pipe ads to me, is something of a fetish of mine.
>>
>>107062550
ultimately, it is all in the hands of God
>>
>>107062550
there's an obvious solution to this that most people don't like to accept. but it is what it is

I don't have a phone

pretty close
don't put anything sensitive on it, and don't bring it to any sensitive places
not having a phone is certainly the easiest and most complete way to accomplish this, but for many it's a bridge too far. for better or for worse

>demoralization thread #87349
Some things never change, do they? Every choice you make is a sacrifice. Nothing will stop them, thus there never was a choice to begin with; and so it follows: if your choice is an illusion, so too is your sacrifice.

>Whatsapp
the only reason I still have an android spy brick. used exclusively to talk to those too stubborn and/or tech illetarate to use discord (wich I only use through the website/web "app")
>Contacts & Aurora store
for whatsapp
>KDE Connect & SyncThing
for auto sending media and notifications to PC
>Camera & Gallery
I am cannot currently afford an actual camera
>Clock
for alarms
>Audio Recorder
for covertly recording conversations with buisiness "people" and suppliers
>My Files & Settings
no sure if removing them would break the device (volume controls, dark mode, connecting to wifi, etc), not eager to try
>>
>>107063209
There's quite another type of "choice" that history has shown is rather effective.

Same here. Lineage OS without all f-droid apps except for WhatsApp and Banking. Maybe matrix with a WhatsApp bridge or smth could get the job done.
>>
>you never seem to bother addressing your smartphone
my what?
>>
>>107062837
Kek this.
Imagine worrying about man-made horrors beyond our comprehension.
>>
>>107063402
>Maybe matrix with a WhatsApp bridge or smth could get the job done.
You wish, and so do I; but it relies on whatsapp web, so no calls :/
>>
>>107063519
I could just tell my friends that WhatsApp calls just don't work for me, doesn't sound like that big of a deal. For work stuff people don't call you through WhatsApp
>>
>>107062550
>turns off wifi
>turns off mobile data
>disables LTE calling
simple as
>>
>>107063547
>I could just tell my friends that WhatsApp calls just don't work for me
good luck with that, but it wouldn't for me because it is the main reason people use whatsapp here, the internet calls
>For work stuff people don't call you through WhatsApp
again, not here. fucking doctors call through whatsapp...
>>
>>107063656
Damn, that's a shame. I remember there was articles about the EU wanting to force interoperability, wonder what happened
>>
>>107063402
>Lineage OS
You could use Waydroid on Linux, but they still have no camera support, and they seem to not really care about that fact for some reason

So yu could install your Whatsapp and banks and all that, but they would be able to access the camera
>>
>>107063716
*wouldn't be able
>>
>>107063716
At that point I might as well just have a second phone with WhatsApp on a drawer. I access WhatsApp on my linux PC through a webapp. Still it's a must for me to be able to chat through my phone
>>
>>107063753
>I access WhatsApp on my linux PC through a webapp
not really. You cannot log in without a device running the mobile version
>Still it's a must for me to be able to chat through my phone
alright, fair enough
>>
>>107063711
>EU wanting to force interoperability
These impotent cunts? Really? Interoperability with what? With who? Other dogshit mobile-only apps?
>>
>>107062550
>sending telemetry on everything you do
I don't have google services so this doesn't concern me
>>
>>107062550
I only use my phone as a phone (i.e. calling and sending messages to people) and as a GPS.
>>
>>107063788
IIRC it was going to be RCS, so any app that also supports RCS.
I have no great love for the EU either, but it's innaccurate to say they've never been able to enforce anything open technology stuff.

>>107063897

How do you run a bank account, use your email, sell things online, order from aliexpress, and get appointments done? How do you talk to friends?

>How do you run a bank account, use your email, sell things online, order from aliexpress, and get appointments done?
You can easily do this all on a PC. In fact, most of these are more easily done on a PC anyway what the fuck. The "talk to friends" part is the only real advantage phones have.

If you live in place where your phone can be triangulated you are beyond institutionalized.
