How do you imagine YT 20 years from now?
>>
>>107065276
Just ads.
>>
>>107065276
Independently created content will have been confirmed to be bad for your mental health and replaced with AI generated approximations going outside.

They will have lost – literally lost the HDs – with few good videos that were available. It is already happening, by the way.

i mean..today it's just ads too
been helping a mate fix his car in the garage and he left the youtube phone app running on speaker with some playlist he made. i shit you not i thought it was some commercial radio station, it was like two short ads, then one minute long ad, then an actual song, then around 3 or 4 short ads followed by several long ads, then another song.
this is the average normie youtube experience
>>
>>107065328
No I mean literally the video is just an ad, not the sponsor model.

only shorts because adhd zoomers can't watch a video that is longer than 10 seconds

Somewhere down the line you're gonna need to show ID just to access any website at all

Dark timeline? The vast majority of videos will be AI-generated.
>>
>>107065454
You're thinking two years into the future, not twenty.
>>
>>107065454
Yep and even the videos that aren't AI-generated will be AI-upscaled.

Videos with zero artificial intelligence will be in vogue again. Also gay people will probably be normalized to the point no one cares. Finally Videos about Nu-Linux still won’t have anything new figured out.

I told a lie to my friend in high school about what the first video on youtube was. he called me out on it because he knew about this video and rather than fess up I decided to double down and say they deleted the actual first video. I'm such a loser

The whole site will be a voice command prompt console and it will generate the videos that you want to watch. Ads will be subtly injected in the generated videos.
Let's say you want to watch The Beatles' 1969 rooftop concert, you're just gonna say: "Hey YouTube, play the last Beatles' concert" and it will be generated for you in 16K in less that a few seconds. It won't be the exact same concert, but who cares anyway. After the second take on what's supposed to be "Get Back", John Lennon is gonna take his time to tell you about rAId: Shadow Legends, an immersive online experience with everything you'd expect from a brand new AI RPG title. It's got an amazing storyline, awesome 3D graphics, giant boss fights, PVP battles, and an infinite number of AI generated champions to collect and customize.
>>
>>107065319
if they load-balance their CDNs and don't bother with redundancy on videos that haven't been viewed in 10 years, who cares if the video is lost?
>>
>>107065276
Every video will be AI slop. You won't be able to tell if a person in a video is real unless they have a verifiable identification key tied to their genetic profile.
>>
Obviously there won't be any Youtube in 20 years
Do you realise how much a culture and tech can shift in 2 decades?
It probably won't even be cool to watch videos anymore

You are so fucking shortsighted it's unreal. You remind me of someone who wanted to re-enter the IT industry after being forced to go back to retail temporarily to keep bills paid and his coworkers are all like "the deli is hiring, it pays $0.50 more per hour!!!" "Why are you leaving the retail store?" "Do you want to work for another retail chain in the shoe department?"
Fuck OFF I have a degree for a goddamn REASON you idiots.

Just looking at YT shorts thumbnails numbs my brain. Thankfully there are UBO scripts for it, but they have to be updated semi-frequently.

I know short-form content was inevitable, but I can't forgive TikTok for implementing it and then everyone else following suit. TikTok was a genuine mistake.

eBay and Amazon have been around for a long time, so has Facebook and YouTube--close to 20 years now. It feels like certain sites were weeded out, and what remains will remain entrenched on the internet for years to come.
>>
>>107065276
Dead.
It’s just waiting on a decent replacement willing to blow $50M on marketing with a roughly equivalent feature set and non-insane moderation.
>>
>>107065276
It won't last 5 years at the rate it is going. It takes 30 to 60 seconds to load every page because the codebase is so jeeted, and it's only going to get worse unless they make massive personnel changes right now. Their AI moderation randomly hand out strikes for absolutely no reason, channels are getting deleted left and right for no reason at all with zero recourse except to take YT to court, it's bad. Creators are desperate for a viable alternative if only one would appear because it's becoming too risky to even post on YT.

The site will not exist in 5 years if they don't start making changes now.

AI and automation is the end buddy, there is nothing afterwards unless our civilisation ends. We either get AGI and that would be the end of human history or we don’t get to AGI and we continue with human history until we get to AGI. You either believe AI isn’t good enough now to replace all internet content and will never be, or you believe that this is the end of human culture.
>>
I've been archiving my liked youtube videos for a decade now, thankfully I've only lost a couple of my earliest ones
>>
It'll become a subscription service with all past content locked behind the paywall.

>How do you imagine YT 20 years from now?
dead I hope, we need something else that allows more freedom of speech, no wonder why yt videos are so bland nowdays, creators are terrified of getting their channel nuked if they stepped out of the gay line
>>
>>107065276
it's already dead to me, the memes don't originate from youtube anymore, but from tiktok, I missed the days you got recommendations of some 30 seconds meme kino, now it's only 30 mn documentary slop, fuck this shit
>>
Hard to say. But in next 5 years I'm sure they will start deleting videos that no one watches. AI will translate and upscale and censor everything. Maybe put AI ads edited in the videos like the star wars beer ad in argentinaor whatever. Also they to skip 30 second ad you will have watch 5 second ad
>>
>>107065276
I really have to learn how to live the rest of my life without youtube, this site is so souless nowdays, but what are the alternatives? Rumble?
>>
>>107065276
the internet has become so shit I'm starting to get back some habits I used to have in the early 2000's (when I didn't have internet so all I did on my days was playing video games and watching anime), desu it's for the better, that time was better I didn't have to deal with endless retarded takes from SlopTubers

im pretending you arent a bot rn but if youre human, all you are doing, is admitting youd rather watch AI slop instead of human made content which speaks lods about you

I like the sora threads on /wsg/, that doesn't invalidate a single of the 300+ channels I am subbed to
>>
>>107069771
>youd rather watch AI slop instead of human made content which speaks lods about you
I'd rather watch AI than watching modern human youtube videos yeah, you know why? because they don't have as much freedom to speak their mind as before, do you seriously think someone could make an old 2016 idubbbz video style without having their channel nuked nowdays? if the answer is no then you know I'm right
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UHmQKzenYYw
>>
>>107069771
People are using AI to say slurs because if a real human says it they'll get doxed and threatened to death, so in a way yes, AI lets you make something more out of the line and thefore makes it more interesting.
>>
>>107067546
Youtube is so rage inducing it's hard to even think about it. Happy about the fact I don't need to watch it outside of finding some game performance video if needed.
Literally want to kill someone when I see that algorithm generated youtube front page with shorts and whatever else brain numbing shit they put out.

Youtube is something I've never understood how it is able to scale to the demand. It's an incomprehensible amount of video that is uploaded there every day, for free. How is it sustainable? How can they scale infinitely?
>>

Honestly, I imagined worse.
I was pretty blackpilled when like, 15 years ago or something, Google announced that Youtube had been running at a loss from server costs as >>107070285 said.

I have a feeling that it's all just going to be leftover 3 month old tiktok videos and outdated memes and ai generated videos and people just making video essays with ads or ai generated videos with even more ads added and then 10 ads before every video too. Overall I barely even use YouTube as is nowadays because it just has rehashed tiktok content and the content that is YouTube original always has an ad near the end of the video which makes it nearly unbearable.

Have you seen AI videos? 99% of them are either 10 second clips of some silly obviously fake thing happening or it’s chatgpt rambling about bullshit for 10 minutes and often repeating itself. Do you think these videos talk about the truth or some shit like that? No, you get more uncensored “redpills” on your average podcast where the guests just say absolutely whatever.
