Thanks for reminding me.

Does this come with KDE plasma 6.5?
>>

If this effects me I will just rollback.

if i dont know what these are should i not update
>>
>>107066168
Of course I have. Rebased the other night.
>>107066525
6.4.5. Another six months for 6.5.whatever
>>
>>107066539
Okay I upgraded and everything just works.
Very fast however, fresh boot means shitty captchas.
>>107066525
No.
>>
>>107066168
Yes, but on Arm.
>>
>>107066168
>have you updated?
Was trying it but the gnone extensions I use haven't still been updated in the repos, so I just switched back to arch.
>>
>>107066168
odd numbers are bad luck so i will wait for F44

kek
>>

So do Debian 12 users skip Debian 13 and wait 4 years?
>>
>>107067188
Sadly, the only two DEs that are somewhat bearable on linux are gnome and kde.
I was installing it in both an hdr capable laptop and desktop, so I'm forced into wayland and these two DEs.
>>
>>107067031
>>107067188
These people go out of their way installing massive amounts of extensions and become very dependent on them so hard they are cucked without it and go out of their way to shit on kde and say it has too many options.
Conclusion!
You cannot have enough option.
>>
>>107067241
I literally use 4 extensions total, Caffeine, Blur my shell, gsconnect and kstatus notifier, I literally didn't even notice three of those were not enabled until two days after starting installing it.
>>
>>107067019
are you using snapdragon x?
>>
Installed it either yesterday or the day before. There's really nothing different that I noticed except now the GRUB kernel menu pops up every boot, which is actually something I wanted to enable anyway.
>>
>>107068268
it popped for me every time on fedora 42, it didnt for you?
>>
>>107066168
Yes upgrade went well, but the default python version is now 3.14, I didn't notice that and when I started building shit, I always got errors... at least you can create venvs with specific pythong versions tho.
>>
>>107066168
No because I'm not going to use the ai slop distro
>>
>>107068314
for me some pipx programs didnt work so i just ran the reinstall-all option and it worked. and yea you should be setting up venv for every project
>>107068348
its not
>>
>>107068290
No, I had to manually press Esc every boot at a time where I had some module fuckery and kernel panics going on, lol, but I got that fixed a while ago now.
>>
>>107068356
It is.
>>

Guess how many extensions I needed to make KDE not look like a tablet UI. Just guess.

I did the second it got released.
was a bit scared because I heard that this release had troubles..

had to restore my system afterwards.
today will do one more backup and try again.

so far I hate it.
>>
>>107066168
why is every Linux OS update review just about gnome?

why have different names like Ubuntu and fedora? just call them both Linux with gnome
>>
>>107068356

I will, sensei!
>>
>>107068665
I just make one ~/venv and use it for every project kek

i had some terra/rpmfusion repository conflicts i had to resolve before i could update
makes me wanna switch to kinoite/silverblue so i dont have to deal with this
>>107068654
idk i never used gnome long term but i think its because of momentum it became the default for distro devs early on. where's a lot of newer distros prefer kde

I updated my old thinkpad X220T from windows 7 to Fedora 43 Xfce yesterday.
Trying to get used to Xfce now.

How do I update from 42? Is running dnf update sufficient?
>>
>>107066168
Of course not, I use Arch Linux, not that subpar distro.
>>
>>107068673
Nothing wrong with this as long as installed packages don't have conflicting dependencies. pip is not apt-get, it won't detect conflicts with already installed packages' requirements.

extensions that you can install as rpms usually are the ones that get update in time.
>>

you do know "widgets" in kde are all extensions, right?

>>
>>107072018
any distro that is not silverblue based is by definition unstable. that includes debian lts. everything that can physically break due to an update is unstable.

That is why Universal blue images are NOT unstable as they cannot break from updates
>>
>>107071978
yes, everyone who uses kde uses widgets.

what I'm getting at is more like, what's the different between distros? Ubuntu and Fedore are the same kernels with the same DE. It confuses me why there is such an identity culture are which distro you use when they're the same.

Different tray icon possibilities, and package managers? Then say you're a APT fan and not a PACMAN bro if you use Ubuntu and not Arch
>>

https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/quick-docs/upgrading-fedora-offline/

TL;DR
sudo dnf upgrade --refresh
sudo dnf system-upgrade download --releasever=43
sudo dnf5 offline reboot
>>

why not kde? im running the kde version on a way shittier old laptop

silverblue has updates between fedora versions you know
>>107072977
>what I'm getting at is more like, what's the different between distros? Ubuntu and Fedore are the same kernels with the same DE. I
theyre not, fedora is typically on far newer kernel versions and usually there's different versions.
>>107072977
>It confuses me why there is such an identity culture are which distro you use
there isnt really but people like validation of having others say theyre using the best thing when choice is presented.

>>107072977
>Then say you're a APT fan and not a PACMAN bro if you use Ubuntu and not Arch
its not as much about the package manager as much as it is about the development team/update version philosophy. ubuntu is supposed to be a package of very reliable tested versions where's arch is for ricing your own desktop
>>
>>107071140
It seems the ones I'm using haven't been updated yet in 43, they've been updated already in arch, but in arch I usually use kde more than gnome since it is a first class citizen in that distro.
>>
>>107073263
>they're the same with tiny nuances in their packages

>>107068533
this happens every fucking release, even with the delay, it's genuinely fucking impressive.

KDE's a first class DE in Fedora since version 40 now too.

distro = the team that delivers your packages/software (meaning theyre supposed to make sure shit works together)
i dont think there's an 'identity' based on that just banter of which one fucks up more often or has newer packages
>>107073950
well silverblue is gnome so thats not relevant, also i think silverblue is delayed compared to nonatomic.

i have kinoite on my laptop ill see if there's issues updating there im guessing they havent even pushed 6.5 there yet

Well, I don't spend three and a half days just trying to upgrade my operating system. So I guess you've got me there lol
>>107073962
>i have kinoite on my laptop ill see if there's issues updating there
Probably another month or two until 6.5 gets pushed out on Fedora 43.
You can do a rebase preview to make sure you're not going to get any weird conflicts with your rpm layering before actually upgrading too.

nah it just fucking werks in kinoite while workstation-kde is stuck.

i think this is the thing thats gonna make me switch to kinoite on my desktop too, fuck this dependency bs took me an hour to solve conflicts to upgrade to fedora 43 now even after it was clean and updating its fucked up again? fuck this shit

Yep. You're right. I just hadn't restarted my system in a couple days. 6.5.1.
Kinoite/Silverblue are definitely the way to go on Fedora IMO.
