Yeah like people paying 1000+ bucks for 25 year old G4 or G3 Macs... NOT. More like 100 bucks MAX.

It's not like it isn't irreversible, just no point.

No, I deal with retro/vintage hardware as a "side hustle".
Sure you can rip off retards if you're skilled and get lucky, but usually you won't get more than the actual common market sales value.

It's for the best Anon, these old iMacs are still perfectly serviceable as web browsing/emulation machines. Keep it around.

That iMac's lit af Anon, just browse around with it, I still use a Core 2 duo 4GB laptop for basic browsing the same way you'd use an iPad for.

Part of me wants to disable the wifi and larp as a writer on this thing. It can also run emulators just fine, which is a pretty great use case given the screen is decent and the speakers are surprisingly good.
>>

>which is a pretty great use case given the screen is decent and the speakers are surprisingly good.
Yeah the 1680x1050 on a 20 inch screen is pretty damn good, even the 24 inch imac with 1920x1200 is right on par with what I use to this day, I would just watch blu ray rip torrented movies on VLC player, Anon.

This, depending on if it's an 07-08 iMac which can can put in 6GB of DDR2 or the based 2009 which can fit 8GB of DDR3, they're really not that useless when you trick it out, I'm not saying be a baby duck but you could probably put Windows 7 on there and run some really good software and games, or just use Linux and have it as a basic use machine, Core 2 CPUs still fucking slap after all this time, this used to not be a thing with computers when they got old but an old iMac has it's uses still, I remember dankpods making a video about how stupid iPad pros were because they didn't run a desktop OS, but then he showed his 2007 iMac recording 4K video off a webcam and running Logic Pro
>>

Wait I was told macs will only increase in resale value, someone told me buying macs is actually an investment, kinda like wine and gold.
>>
>>107069464
I'm not sure about wind and gold, but there is a point where Apple product to have a slight collector value, like right now the Core 2 era aluminum macs aren't really worth shit, but give it some and it may be worth hundreds of dollars the sweet sweet era of Mac OS X Tiger through snow leopard is special to me and a lot of people, and so is the hardware that it runs on.

I recommend that you install lubuntu on it so you can make it feel fast again and make sure to install essential software and this can be a backup computer in case the others break. I had to do this with my old computers in the past and it saved me money and let me continue doing my work no matter what. It will be decently fast overall or at least usable. I did this several years ago on an old hand me down MacBook from 2012 and also one from 2013 and then HP Pavillion from 2017. This has always been my hack to get computers to be usable again and not wasted.
>>
>>107069652
At least he's got XFCE on whatever Linux that is, even on something like Xubuntu or Mint XFCE, you're doing pretty good at not being crazy bloated.
>>
>>107069735
I believe that bloat is always the enemy when it comes to OS which is why when I get any computer I immediately uninstall the default os and pick a non bloated distro and not install windows 11 or keep Mac osx.
>>
>>107069807
Based debloater, it's really a shame XFCE Linux distros aren't sold on the shit low end laptops, because I thought my old coffee lake computer was a piece of shit, but I go to the store, and there's laptops being sold with 8 gigs of ram on the low end, and 4gigs of it's an extremely cheap sub $200 laptop yet they're putting Windows 11 on it. which has got to be the most miserable experience ever. Imagine how great a sub $400 laptop could be as your daily system running Xubuntu or something like that, I crammed 16GB of ram and a cheap 2.9GHz i5 into a 2013 Toshiba laptop and the thing is an absolute monster for basic laptop use on Linux
>>
>>107069843
I would say that on my old 2017 hp Pavillion with 4gb ram that I got for high school and college back then, windows 10 back then ran for a year max and it was as slow as mollassess and took 5 minutes to boot after that but once I installed lubuntu (xubuntu can be installed as well) with xfce, it booted up faster and became usable and not so slow when using a browser, I feel like laptops with windows 10 back then in 2017 and now windows 11 in 2025 will experience planned obsolesence,I feel like its definitely a sales tactic they use to make people buy a new computer every two years. This is why I tell everyone with any lower end or entry level laptops they buy to immediately install linux and use windows 11 on a virtual desktop or emulate the software if truly needed like if they have to use it for work or school and for some reason weren't already given a company laptop, but an xfce desktop environment with lubuntu or xubuntu is recommended for the actual os. This is how to defeat planned obsolescence of windows 11 updated premately aging your computer or bloat. My old laptop cost 500 usd in 2017, however it's good the new lower end computers are cheaper now because they can be bought easier and installed xubuntu or lubuntu on and they have better specs than my 8 year old laptop.
>>
>>107069903
It's absurd how hard Windows 11 obsoletes computers with relatively decent specs, I remember back when I was a Windows user, wondering how Linux bros would be getting by with such meager specs, well when your OS isn't absolute dogshitbloat, you can get away with not that much in the way of hardware, which is fucking awesome because a Linux user can spend very little money and get a computer that does everything they need for a good while before they spend another little bit of money and just keep upgrading when they want more speed to run things they want to run.
>>
>>107069921
Indeed, lubuntu on my hp Pavillion lasted me for 4 years and I used it daily (I used it for 5 but windows 10 was used for the first year since it came preinstalled) before I got my acer nitro 5 in 2022 that i use now with pop os. I also uninstalled windows 11 from that after 3 years of using windows 11 for modded Skyrim but windows 11 caused too much bloat and killed my battery life so I went back linux. From now on all my computers will be linux from day 1 to avoid the windows update planned obsolence. I only upgraded my laptop when I had to and my hp Pavillion with lubuntu got too slow for college back then and was making it hard to meet deadlines. Linux really stretched my money though for ages and that's why I recommend it to everyone and I think my acer nitro 5 will last at least 4 years more now. I've had it for 3 years and now it runs as good as the day I got it when I switched it to linux after windows 11.
>>
>>107069962
Based Linux, desktop computers made over 10 years ago with support for 32GB of RAM should be usable for a very long time and they're stupid cheap, the internet itself is bloating to the point where 4GB is kinda pushing it with one tab of bloat open, but I think it's gonna take a long time before people say "oh wow bro you have 16GB of RAM? how are you even loading YouTube?"
>>
>>107067707

The call is easy, Linux + Windows XP, old games on Windows and indie games on Linux.
