I hanged up a touchscreen monitor next to the door in my room that has dietPi running koreader 24/7 so that I build up the habit of readingBasically any time I walk by I read a page or twoI also host calibre-web on my seedbox so I can download books directly from it, and on my Kindle tooThat's a good use of technology if I've ever seen one
they came up with a pretty decent solution to this around 3500BC, but sure, this works too.
>>107072003>Basically any time I walk bythats good. you lowered the friction.
>christcuck
>>107072085it's obviously bait
>>107072105OP here, not bait I'm actually reading the Gospels right nowNo man can call themselves educated if they haven't read at least the Genesis and the Gospels
>>107072048what solution?basically the problem I'm trying to solve is internet addiction I guess whenever I'm in my room the computer just pulls me in and I don't have enough willpower to just take out a book and read regularly so now I don't have to because it's always open
>>107072228>i don't have the willpower to just take out a book and readjesus fucking christ, get a grip.
>>107072228>I don't have enough willpowerJesus gave up on you
>>107072240Yeah I don't in my room because I have access to fast internet and I get FOMOI like reading when traveling or in places with no/slow internet because then I don't have other options so I can fully focusmaybe I have ADHD, idk
>>107072253youre good man theyre just being crabs in a bucket. theyre right that you have a problem but they have it too and atleast youre dealing with it.
>>107072260>they have it tooholy cope
>>107072323well if you dont then good for you, most people do. atleast OP is trying.
>>107072003Cool project but the real way to get through books is to listen audio books while you're gayming and cooming. If you want to be cheap or it doesn't exist just download the Gutenberg and use TTS.
>>107072344>the real way to get through books is to listen audio books while you're gayming and coomingI don't want to "get through books" like it's homework, I want to deeply absorb and appreciate them and I want them to deeply challenge meyou're not going to get deeply challenged if you can't ponder on sentences, scan complex sentences with your eyes back and forth, and so onI do already listen to semi-casual things like podcasts while gaming, but I don't often register all sentences but only the gist of it, because I'm not giving it my all attentionSo I'm sorry to break your bubble but your understanding of those audiobooks is probably very poor, especially if you have it just in the background You need to read actual text without any distractions for full retention
>>107072003My brother in Christ. Buy a Bible stand, put in your desk, let the Bible open and everytime you pass you read a page. Not only is simple, but reading actual paper is more stimulating. And it looks better.
>>107072404I prefer digitalIt's literally just text information, it's so minimalistic, you don't need any paper and get the same information it stirs my autism just right over hoarding booksI might upgrade to an eink monitor one day but this is just a prototype
>>107072433>this whole setup is more minimalistic than just a single book, trust me bro
>>107072511It's equally minimalistic as a single book, but I can read millions of booksAnd also I can adjust the font and layout and other things
>>107072337most people are not so far gone that they can't read a few pages of a book, come on man. I'm an actual ADHD retard and even i'm not that fucked. Stop projecting.
>>107072218"Educated"
>>107072003STOPHAVINGFUN
I had a few slow days at work today and that got me to bring a cheap paperback book and read it thoroughly, and I enjoyed it. It’s a movie in your head. So basically the key to reading is to get rid of everything else that gets rid of the boredom. Go out to the park or middle of nowhere and just bring your book (or ereader) and start there. Get away from your computer and tablets or whatever else you got. Just get one paperback book from something that seems interesting. Don’t start with the bible, that is gonna confuse the hell out of you unless you have one of those weird new age translations and you’re gonnna not really read it. I’m sorry but the bible is like the schizo babble you read on this site just ancient. read something else first that you can read for hours on end, like any good paperback book would. bible isn’t meant for long reading sessions imo unless you’re studying it. Last resort is get rid of your technology except your smartphone which is a necessity.
>>107072584Educated about the western culture I already read some Homer, Plato, Herodotus, Aristotle, Marcus Aurelius, etc. so now it's time for the Bible, the culmination and the basis of our (Graeco-Roman) civilization I'm reading the Orthodox Study Bible though, which is based on Septuagint - the Greek translation of the Old Testament that the New Testament is based on. But despite being a "translation", it has many of the oldest passages that we know. So it's kind of like the work of it's own, I would even say the True Bible (since we can't recover texts older than it).
>>107072615I'm having fun
>>107072615>reading the bible (lol) from a unergomic wall mounted shitty monitor>funokay, whatever floats your boat i guess
>>107072671yep.
>>107072539>most people are not so far gone that they can't read a few pages of a book>most people
>>107072951this. most people don't read anything other than the text on Instagram reels
>>107072003you should set it up in your bathroom so you can read while you shit
>>107072623Western culture is a rotting corpse. It has proven utterly incapable of adapting to the modern age. Hardly anyone reads books at all these days, and most of the people who do are only reading romantasy and other "not-YA" garbage. Western values have been eroded more and more every decade since the suicidal paroxysms of the World Wars. Manners, habits, morals and aims today would be unrecognisable to a Westerner from a hundred years ago. The West's role as the leader of the world that everywhere else aspires to emulate is over. What you're doing, in essence, is no different from someone who autistically consumes every scrap of lore about, say, Warhammer, or the Elder Scrolls - if we're being charitable, you can liken yourself to history buffs that know everything there is to know about the Assyrians. Nothing you learn and treasure will help you as you move into the future, because the future is not "Graeco-Roman". I'll go so far as to say that everything from before the digital age might as well be fiction now, because the pre-Internet world is as distant and unimportant as Middle-Earth.
>>107073241It's a nihilistic viewYou're right in a way but I'm not doing it for others but for myself. And even if only just 1% of the population in Europe still holds to these values, it's something. It can always swing back.
>>107072003>That horrendous backlight bleedDevil's monitor.
>>107073241You'll never belong in the West, Ivan.
>>107073870Yeah I mostly just wanted any touchscreenIt cost 50$ with the cables included
>>107073241If you were actually cultured you'd know that the enlightenment was just as you described.
>>107073912but it's not distracting and also the brightness is at 0%
>>107072003>I hanged up a touchscreen monitor next to the door in my room that has dietPi running koreader 24/7 so that I build up the habit of reading>Basically any time I walk by I read a page or twoi should put one next to my shitter. Hell, i have a raspberry pi b+ (ancient tech) from a decade ago and a waveshare 7in monitor; should i read while i shit?
>>107072623It’s really funny that someone who has such a low IQ that they can’t read without tricking themselves into it is so obsessed with stuff like this.
>>107072003I was gonna buy that monitor once but didn't see a point, at least it went to a good home
>>107074530I can read without "tricking myself into it" just not as much as I'd like toThat's not really a trick tho, it's just like setting up an infrastructure that encourages a habitIt's like having a server that's running 24/7 and is ready to take your requests at any time VS. a server that falls asleep and you have to wake it up with the first request
>>107072003>"I hanged-"Bullshit, you never read
>>107072228> I don't have enough willpower to just take out a book and read regularlybut you took the time to came up with all this convoluted shit, you are just bored admit it.
>>107072003
>>107072003Dude.Just set aside like 20 minutes a day to read, come onYou'll be walking by this without reading a fucking thing in like 2 weeks
>>107077832>You'll be walking by this without reading a fucking thing in like 2 weeksJust like real books!
>>107072003retarded or not, I find the ergonomics questionable. there's some cabinet in front, which limits your ability to move closer to the small-ish screen. and then there's height. we can't see the top of the door on the right, which could mean the display itself isn't mounted high enough to be comfortable for use while standing. or maybe what looks like a cabinet is in fact a desk, and the setup is meant for use while sitting down? clarification needed from OP
