If you're using a laptop PC, use GNOME. If you're using a desktop PC, use anything but KDE.
Try a few WMs out, if you don't like any of those then xfce mogs pretty much every other DE and it's not even close
GNOME with addons to make it feel like KDE.

Cinnamon is what I wish I was using. But only Wayland has a display feature I really don't want to get rid of at all given that I put money on it.Plasma is what I wish would work well but ever since Plasma 6 it's been giving me nothing but headaches. GNOME is what I use, begrudgingly so. But I get around its problems and it works better for me than getting around the problems I have on Plasma.I am aware of Hyprland but I don't want to invest time trying to learn how to use it. For as convoluted GNOME is, it is still braindead to use in most situations. I found that a lot of the things that I "can't" do on GNOME I can actually do, they just take more steps than necessary. Extensions have broken on me through updates, but none that didn't have a replacement or didn't get a fix soon enough. Extensions bring a lot of fucking value, I love some of the shit I can do with them. I love this little fucker that allows me to create custom toggles in the tray area. I can easily enable and disable something that makes no fucking sense to actually "toggle" so it's never considered to be a toggle anywhere in any desktop.I wish I was using Cinnamon.

>>107075511People should use Windows. In many ways it's better. My only computer for the last year and a half has been Mint, and I find it good for a lot of things I want to do but it never feels completely professional and I just don't get on with GNOME.The only professional Linux systems I've used are Red Hat, Ubuntu, and Debian. I've used almost every single one and the rest all have elements that make them feel like unprofessional offerings made by random nerds. They're just not good guys lol. Or are utility or niche tools.

Why not use a sane desktop environment like Xfce or MATE? You don't have to make yourself suffer like this.
Gnome just feels clunky and weird. I like the idea behind it, but I don't feel it.KDE feels the way it like it, coming from Windows it's usually the better choice.Cinnamon is cool too.

>>107079828whys the scalling so bad in xfce? i only have a 4k tv now and when i switch to 1080 it looks terrible, it doesnt happen in kde. i wonder, if i buy a 1080 monitor the scaling would be good right? this is preventing me to jump in.
>>107081065There are two different scaling options in Xfce and neither works properly. There is the one in display settings and the one in window manager settings.I set the 4k tv to 1080p 120hz and xfce looks fine.
>>107081198>neither works properlycould be my TV too, since the font looks terrible in 1080p kde.i see a lot of screenshots of xfce looking nicely in 1080p, usually better than kde, so i imagine it'd look fine when i get my monitor, but im not so sure.

>>107072271the answer is>kde if you wanna actually do something on said computer>gnome if its a laptop that will just run a browser window 99% of the time it's in use and nothing else. no-customization-needed normie friendly DE for your grandmathe programs/utilities that come with kde are just plain better.for one its piss easy to set up kde connect (like 2 clicks) and you have instant easy file/clipboard/screen sharing between all computers and phones on your local wifi + media controls\shared notifications/remote input. >>107072289having an out-of-the-box tiling mode is objectively the correct thing to do in a DE and cosmic have the right idea. but right now it's unstable/jank/crashy af maybe in a couple of years they will be at a gnome/kde level of polish
