Pale Moon is Internet Explorer levels of backwards. Just the other day I found a bug where it couldn't play VP9 in MP4 containers.

same

mp4, webm, mkv, even avi, are all just container formats that can hold any kind of audio/video format. You can put a VP9 in a MP4, AV1 inside an AVI, HEVC inside a webm, and so on.

Ah, I recognise you from >>107070941. What compels you to make these posts? Are you lonely?

I like it, and I used it for years when it was still pretty well known and very actively developed. Bluemoon theme gives me huge nostalgia.
But holy SHIT is it an enormous memory hog, and performs fucking horribly. Also noticed the longer its open/running on kde, the slower and laggier it gets over time. 4 Tabs open with a 1080p youtube video playing = 6gbs of memory, on firefox its 3.2 and on ungoogled chromium its a fucking gig.
>>
>>107077746
how? i have 27 tabs open, 543 total (most sleeping, i need to do a cleanup), and it's using 2.7GiB
youtube pages are memory hogs though on any browser, i use youtube-local instead of the official site

>>107077746
as a test, if i open this thread in a separate instance 3 times + 1 youtube-local page playing a 1080p video, it uses less than 400MiB of ram
>>
>>107078047
Not sure, I'm aware its an absurd amount of ram to be consuming. I'll retest, but it was the only browser that was eating that much consistently a week or so ago. The continuously degrading performance was a major concern too.

Willing to bet its something specific to my machine.
>>
>>107072699
You can, it's usually not done, though.
>>
>>107078075
i will admit that every so often, like after a week of running, i'll restart it just to cut down it's memory usage, so something may be leaking, but it's not a big deal. i leave my machine on 24/7. also sleeping tabs do take up memory, i'm not sure they really should, but it's not much, only becomes noticeable when you have hundreds
and no, palemoon is not the fastest browser, it's single-threaded, but how often do you need good performance from more than one tab at a time anyway?
>>
>>107078075
I get the degrading performance as well, but only if I visit YouTube. Even on the AVX2 build.

I can make it use tons of RAM by visiting websites that allow you to load tons of videos on one page (my record is 20GB). But when I close the tab, the RAM is always released.

TL;DR - YouTube's website sucks.

I've noticed a lot of anons ITT talking about video issues. I haven't bothered playing videos in a browser for over 6 years now. I do everything from the command line and/or use a media player for the job. I also torrent/scrape typical content that I want to watch like someone who has some sense.
