Leetcode is one part of it, but not all of it. Try not to let HR know you're an antisocial 4channer or you'll be cooked. True for any јob not јust tech, BTW, for those who are forced to work at a store or restaurant due to being unable to land tech јobs.

>How to write a resume
Use Jake's Resume Template. Υou can bend or stretch the truth a little if necessary, but you must make sure you know your resume back to front and can talk confidently about what's on it.

Only even think about this if you have an offer. Just look up whatever the market is and go slightly on the low end unless you're really cracked (in which case you likely wouldn't even be here).

According to Plebbitor 10 years ago
>I applied to tons of jobs back in May and it was extremely easy to get competing job offers.
>... Only applied to 15 jobs in months? This is your problem. Go to IBM's website right now and apply to 100 entry level positions

Meanwhile, IBM's current open entry level positions...

So am I to believe this Redditor was Indian, or is there something more here that I'm not aware of?

Also

>Check glassdoor for all companies in your area and just apply bro

They have like at most 1-10 entry level positions open, if they have one at all (because most don't), and you're competition against thousands of other grads (not saying I haven't applied just because of that, but still).
>>
>>107073835
Not to mention, most positions are getting filled with H1Bs, or at least were until Trump put a stop on that.

I do not have a plan. I have a few principles:
I really want to keep it lawful and not commit any crimes; this will require *us* to research computer crime laws to know the boundary.
I believe that PowerShell will be the best tool; it is multi-platform and is supported by all major cloud providers. (PowerShell works great on RHEL).
*us* defined: I also believe that any centrally orchestrated or uprising is inherently flawed in that it will be easily put down, easily infiltrated, and easily entrapped (by colleagues who are actually FBI agents trying to get *us* to cross the lines into unlawful/illegal behavior).
Right now my thought is that the clouds make use of public networks, are attempting to capture from the internet commons things that are in the public domain, and externalize their failures by polluting the public domain; if *we* can be at the right place at the right time, digitally, then when they fuck up we can defend the public commons make it harder for them to recover.
Perhaps publishing some PowerShell cmdlets is the start. I'm not sure. Those are my ideas so far. *We* also want to make sure that whatever work we do does not assist AI. I am inspired by rumors of folks deliberately putting trash into places that AI will suck it up. If AI wants to exploit and rape the public domain and ingests poison pills *we* left in key locations, my intuition tells me such is lawful activity. Such as if I manufacture something inherently dangerous and an asshole thief comes and steels it from me, brings it into their camp of theives, and kaboooom! then i've not done nothing wrong and am just a victim of theft. That just gave me another idea where cloud providers steal from the open source commons; maybe a few well crafted steal-me libraries that some FAGMAN jeet steals and runs internally.
How's that for a start?

" Educate and inform the whole mass of the people, enable them to see that it is their interest to preserve peace and order, and they will preserve it, and it requires no very high degree of education to convince them of this. If they approve the proposed constitution in all it’s parts, I shall concur in it chearfully, in hopes they will amend it whenever they shall find it works wrong. This reliance cannot deceive us, as long as we remain virtuous; and I think we shall be that, as long as agriculture is our principal object, which will be the case while there remain vacant lands in any part of America. When we get piled upon one another in large cities, as in Europe, we shall become corrupt as in Europe, and go to eating one another as they do there." -- Thomas Jefferson

first job a few month as a cybersec exec for a french bank got the position after winning a hacking competition of france's nsa equivalent,

then i left for a SE job at a meme crypto company because it involved less paperwork and paid 3x more.
then the previous job at that 5B$ company, i'm friend with whom at the time was the "chief of software" so he helped me get in.
i am however very good at what i'm doing and he'd have not taken me in if that wasn't the case, though, this allowed to skip all the HR bullshitery, i stayed there for a little over a year.

then got two short term job, the first one i applied to on indeed, passed their test, interviews etc, but it did not work for me as it was in office and 3h of train per day just made my life hell, so i left.

then i worked for 3 weeks for another company, they reached me on linked in because of my experience at the 5B$ company, they kinda low balled me on the contract but i still took it because i needed the money, upon joining i realised the whole codebase was GO and the whole team was jeets, at that point i decided that it was not worth it especialy with the low ball and the fact that i did not like go and not only that, poorly written go, they told me there would be some rust and c++ but that was a lie to bait me in which i obviously did not appreciate.

so yea, shit was bad, i did not want to work in this environment.

and then the one i'm working for currently, they contacted me on linked in, their founding engineer unfortunately passed in an accident away and they needed someone that could take over, that makes me the current only engineer and that means i have full control of the technology, which i enjoy very much so.

so i basicaly took the role of founding engineer and am on my way to cto when we are gonna expand the team, the company is a startup but worth about 100M currently, they actualy have that value through infrastructure and are already profitable.

there you go with my work history.

oh and to give you a timeline, if you ignore those 2 short term position i've been unemployed from mars of this year to last week.

so if something is bad, i don't have to just live with it, i can actualy chose to fix it and make life nicer for myself.

my job at the 5B company was for an american company.

my job second job in the meme crypto company was a swiss company.

i will stay on what i think and say that what matters the most is skills and network.
if you have the two you don't need a diploma.

though winning some hacking competition that involved reverse engineering and binary exploitation sure helped.

also i was lucky to get my first SE job in like end of 2022 / begining of 2023 at that time people would contact just about any dev on linked in, the market was indeed much better, not sure i'd be able to pull off the same path today desu.

> only jeets
lol,

i mean i am in the later category, i've been obsessively and autisticaly spending all my time programing and learning about computer stuff since i'm a kid basicaly.

but repeating my point, i think if you are highly skilled, you just need to build some network and you'll do fine.

Soon companies will require that you pay them for training on the job and then you have a chance at getting a job at the company afterwards.
However I do not know how the people who need to work to make money will be able to pay for that.

I'm from EU, I'm working at my first company for 2+ years as a front end dev (but it's a small company so I also do DevOps and stuff like npm packages) already after graduating uni

So after I come back home I mostly don't really have energy to do side projects
I have a website (although) and some personal projects as well as work projects to show (open source npm packages)

So what do you think my strategy should be?

How many applications a day?
Do I adjust the resume for different companies or just send the same stuff every time?

Until every domestic born teen has a job, we don't need unskilled labor, and until every domestic born college grad has a good job, we don't want skilled labor from coming from anywhere in the world regardless of how "smart" they are; "go somewhere else we're overflowing full and piled on top of each other" should be the polite response. thank you anon !

initially it was a hobby as a kid, i just realy enjoyed learning about computers, i eventualy became very good at this stuff and it made logical sense to make a career out of it.
i will definitely not get complacent as i still realy enjoy CS, though i'm now also kinda getting interested in other fields, ie chemistry, math and neuroscience.

> some advice

thank you very much, yes i do tend to overwork myself.

i'd say my biggest issue is that if i think too much during the day i may have trouble falling asleep even if i can stop thinking in bed, it may take time to actualy relax.
that's also why i chose to live in the mountains, so that i can take forest walk breaks, learning to play violin has also been helpful to break off work.

i generaly have as a rule to leave all tech 3 or 4 hours before bed, i'll generaly spend 1 or 2h walking outside when the weather is nice, read and play violin when it isn't and then have dinner somewhere in there as well.

picrel from about a two weeks ago near my house.

i wish you well as well ! :)

Similar story here but mine are using an underhanded tactic I spotted in a toxic union workplace, which is emotionally abusing the shit out of someone until they leave / creating an environment that makes them physically sick or debilitated from stress.
I am genuinely having health problems living with them, like grinding my teeth in my sleep from stress and waking up with horrible TMJ pain / "brainfog" (associated with stiff neck & shitty sleep) that stops me from doing very basic "IADL" shit, let alone searching for work. This is so they can force me out without looking bad to their (non-existant) friends or extended family.
Honestly, it's looking like I'm going to get abused either way. Anyone that doesn't conform in this country gets massively shat on, like how I see 50 year old gay guys stuck working at TJ Maxx, or a 60 year old pizza delivery driver with some sort of cognitive issue.
>>
>>107086787
hmm, i think you were quoting the wrong guy, if not i don't get what you are saying, i've always made more in new positions than previous.

you may settle for less to get a first job in your cv yes, but as soon as you have a half decent resume and the skills to show for it you'll do fine if you are not socialy retarded.

though i can't repeate enough how network is important, you need to go meet people, some that are good (they can end up in high places or help get you in companies), and some that are already high up the ladder.

anyway, i'll probably be hiring in like a year or so as i'll move to cto, i'd be fine hiring some juniors even without diploma as long as they pass my technical interview and show that they know their stuff.

i wouldn't do meme leetcode.

I was doing maybe an hour of work per day with little oversight, very comfy. Buy then the DAO matured, stricter oversight put in place, so the "easy" money dried up.

Getting into web3 startups / DAOs was, in my experience, far easier than the traditional linkedin humiliation rituals. You show up in their community, learn about everything, help everyone, until you're seen as a semi-important person. In my case it meant reading all their smart contracts, then helping onboard developers with boilerplate solidity code and so on. Learn the tools for the job like hardhat, ethers.js, viem, and write some basic documentation for people trying to integrate via their frontend apps.

DAOs will usually fund so-called "working groups" for various things that are needed for the project, like community/developer outreach. So I applied to that one, and my public record in discord helping out developers spoke for itself, and was instantly hired.

Start robbing and scamming people. If society thinks it's okay for billionaires to get tax breaks and subsidies while the working class is left in the dust on unlivable wage and virtually no work opportunities and zero safety net, then you don't own them anything. Lie, cheat and scam them, you don't own them anything.

Boomers are the worst, they think that it's still 1960-70s when you could walk into a place of business and get a job paying your bills that would allow you to purchase a spacious house. Government defrauded people by massive spending and the rich tax breaks, while the 90s, 2000s generation is paying the price.

I say go the criminal route, the society is fucked and isn't worth giving a shit about.

Counterintuitively, I sometimes WISH I lived in China or were a Chinese citizen.

I know that'd probably mean everything would be 10x harder and I'd have to live with my parents in a cramped apartment if I screwed up. But I'd have a province, a nationality, an identity. I could go to the first floor of my commie block and eat steamed buns and spicy noodle soup from the little stores there which wouldn't even be legal under most western countries' zoning laws. I'd have millennia of history and culture to look back upon instead of not even 300 years like the fucking diasporitard Ameritard I ended up being born as.

I don't get along with a lot of people, and I believe a semi-conscious urge to please my parents (and ancestors) led to me exclusively seeking out the company of fellow yellow Chinkameritards. I thought I was being "a good kid unlike those drunk fratbros" and exhibiting integrity, but now I'm aware what I was really doing was throwing away the ONE chance I had to mingle with general American society. With my charisma, all was within reach - girlfriends, riches, networks - and yet I threw it all away.

Being Chinese means nothing if you're unemployed. Even in America.

Boomers are vulnerable to scamming as well, since they're very gullible and naive. Just remember though if you do scam someone there is a victim, and it's gonna be someone's mom or dad. Instead of burning all their inheritance on cruises and casinos they'll have nothing left.

Life splinters, changes, and evolves, creating new forms of life to add to the wonderful tapestry of life. Your and all American's ancestors made the decision for us to move from their ancestral homelands to form new peoples in a different land. The only rule for everyone in this land is you must value freedom and the ability to be self reliant, so even if you want to stay within traditional Chinese parameters you have to at least cultivate those values. There are enough freedom less authoritarian slave countries so if you don't want that then you should just go back to China.

not evil. just ignorant, uninformed, stupid, think that electing a dictator is democratic, embrace communism without knowing what it is, sometimes crazy, usually just resentful while directing hatred in all directions, racist, priveleged and detached from reality, unaware that nazis were socialists too, don't understand what fascism is, hopped up on drugs, just completely and utterly retarded entitled and bitter, don't respect private property, do not understand anything whatsoever, complete fools and degenerates, protest without putting forth any demands, riot with no clear objective of introspection on the purpose, lack a clear understanding of the definition of monarchy, have rarely if ever had a real job, trust-fund babies without a cause, hate the working poor, hate marriage, want to destroy everything so that everybody is equally ruined...things like that. "the left" is psychotic really, and obsessed with assinign things like "climate justice" which does not have any real meaning at all.
as for "the right", I truly do not think there is such a thing anymore; just normal people trying to work a job and live in a low crime area, worried about how to earn a meal and some shelter, decent folks: salt of the earth. wanting to work a job and be let alone... instead of swarming in some mass of spittle flying protests, again it's not evil vs good, it's retard vs trying to be productive against all odds and wanting to restore the rights of the individual vs the mob.

How important is mentorship for a software engineer?
I just left my first job of 2 years because I was on a small team of 3 devs and I was getting stressed about essentially being senior and making all design and architecture decisions.
Well, turns out the new job lied. There are no seniors, just two jeets and my manager. I'm back to being the "senior" or at least I don't have anyone to review my code or discuss architecture decisions aside from the jeets.
I'm planning my exit, I need to line something else up first.
I want my code to be reviewed. I want a senior to tell me what I'm doing wrong and why it should be done some other way. It's just so stressful having to figure it all out alone, knowing that I'm probably picking up bad habits that I won't be able to break.
It's a state government job so the pay isn't worth what I'm being asked to do.

Idk man, I swear there's jobs but nobody is actually hiring anyone. Like they get overwhelmed with bullshit resumes they just give up or go with the guy who knows a guy. It sucks not even being able to get a temp job that is supposed to be way below what you could do. Hopefully seasonal demand should get you at least a couple months somewhere. Like UPS or target or wherever.

>salary, always asking for the lower end
I am under the belief you are supposed to ask a bit high, like mid to high end of their range, so they can counter with a lower offer. As stupid as it sounds, they don't actually seem interested in trying to get the cheapest worker possible. I think there's an assumption that the less someone is willing to except the worse he must be at the job
>>
>>107093293
>100 applications
It really is more like 1000s in a couple days. And from what I have heard, they are hiring at lower rates too. Hirers are complaining because they can't so much noise in the applications and AI tuned resumes are making it impossible to determine who would actually be a good fit so they don't even end up hiring anyone a lot of times then maybe wait until someone in the company can refer someone they actually know is capable

Something they do a lot is contact people working for rival companies.

They probably believe it's better to hire someone that has a similar job for a long time and is probably reliable, than to hire someone who may or may not be a good fit.

We have shit like fridges with AI, AC units with AI. Why the fuck would you want a fridge with AI? Why is this necessary whatsoever?

My companies product manager keeps having heated arguments with my team and a few other teams because he believes everything should be handled by AI and we're causing a "waste of potential". He wants AI to answer phone calls, sell products to people and other crazy shit which would be a PR disaster.
>>
>>107094396
>He wants AI to answer phone calls
Every company has done this so I always ask to speak to an agent immediately because the AI has no decision making power.
>>
>>107094414
He wants AI to handle the entire phone call. As in, AI talking to you pretending to be a customer agent.

Didn't some guy try to do that in Arkansas but a bunch of Jewish lawyers shut him down?

I am a backend developer first and foremost, I don't have a portfolio and even if I did I wouldn't know what to put in it because my work experience is closed source/private or APIs, and the things I could actually put there are hobby game projects that might make me seem unprofessional or completely unrelated to what I am currently applying to.
Of course I always link to my GitHub when prompted, but more of the same applies to that as well.
If there are any backend devs here, what do you do in this situation?

>just spend millions upon millions of dollars to construct, educate, and equip your own miniature civilization that consists of you and your cousins and then defend it from the U.S. government and hoards of bomb-throwing leftists and starving third-worlders that can't buy food at the supermarket because their EBT cards ran out of money.

sure bro. great story.

this message is for you and only for you: even if it were that you are all that remains of America, then the spirit of America will not perish until that moment when you draw your last breath on this godforsaken planet. And the rabbles and richmen would hardly notice that the light of the world had extinguished.

I find this thought somehow inspiring.

It's happening bros???? Maybe can get my hopes up???

things are looking up.
but nothing is guaranteed until that shit is in your hand.

Just fake it bro. 3 more years and you start applying for senior roles. Don't sweat it, most people are equally clueless about architecture even at the senior level.
>>
>>107076123
Google wanted me to spend 2-3 weeks on practicing for LeetCode Hard questions. I looked at them and after seeing N-Queens I thought: There's no way I would think up a solution for something like that right on the spot, especially under pressure.
So I just said no.

you don't need a mentor if you can mentor yourself. read books on software architecture written by well-known software architects. Mark Seeman is good, though niche, Martin Fowler comes to mind.
>>
>>107095463
Does starting at A1 and if another queen is on same row, column or diagonal then try next square nested 8 times not work?

a local one, only for my country
where are you from?
you should try applying to your local job sites, cause there the only competion you have are from your country, as opposed to international
>>
>>107095523
My point was not about a good solution for that task in particular, but rather that if that's the difficulty level to be expected then I wouldn't think that one up on the spot.
>>
>>107095442
>it's ok bro all the fake seniors don't know anything so it is ok to not know anything and still be a senior like me because being a senior just involves sitting an a chair for 5 years and not actually knowing anything
yeah and if you slip into medically induced coma for 15 years then you can wake up and apply to CTO rolls.
yep.

Given: Martial arts school A promises all students achieve a black belt within two years.
Given: Martial arts school B promises that only if you train hard and often then will be possible to achieve green belt within three years.

Which martial arts school should I attend if my intent is to be able to defend myself effectively in a street fight?
>>

>Which martial arts school should I attend if my intent is to be able to defend myself effectively in a street fight?
The entire premise here is false. You should not expect street fights to be fair. This means the opponent can bring a knife, gun, baton or have guys backing him up.
Just run away.

actually that sounds like fun. Just use a chatbot to write a bullshit text vaguely related to what you may or may not have done. Read through it, edit it to match your taste. Really internalize it and feel it. If you have a BW printer at home - print out the text and put your smartphone so that you look into it while you read the text. It may take a few takes but I'd do it. Sounds fun even if they don't take you application.
