I moved to Mint because of how bad Windows 11 has gotten but it's been none stop issues. The fact is while Linux is way more secure and quality focused the current state it's in means that it's not normalfag friendly. While I do think improvements while happen especially when steam os is launched the fact is it seems unusable to me right now. Should I just revert to Windows 10 until then?

>The fact is while Linux is way more secureThis is only true if you're paranoid and take precautions. A lot of Linux users(like Archfags especially) are brainlets who1. have a lot of packages2. continuously update them without any particular reason for itLinux has the potential to be more unsafe than Windows has been in decades. It really depends on how many brainlets it manages to attract.

Linux is getting worse and more user unfriendly. We had a couple good years of linux mint and then they fucked it up with the new theming changes which look terrible and they are still following guhnome to this day. If we look objectively from linux mint's inception, it has only gotten worse. They decided to create cinnamon and nemo which are still buggy and not as stable as MATE and its utils to this day. NEMO has a reputation for being the WORST file manager on linux being the slowest. People have been vocal about this for 4+ YEARS. Seriously takes .8 of a second to switch tabs or load folders yet the mint devs plug their ears and basically live in lala land only geting high off their own farts and whoever praises the shit garbage they put out. They are basically glorified gods with their own cult. What a shame. Debian 13 with XFCE it is for most people that just want a just werks long term stable distro. And for all those other people who need modern kernels and modern drivers for nvidia or newer AMD cards, well you're shit out of luck if you want a GUI experience like mint. I guess you can always install a new kernel on debian for AMD but for nvidia drivers IDK.This is why linux sucks because no linux dev can just make a reliable snappy and fast distro with GUI interface. They eventually fuck it up. I don't even think the mint devs even use their own desktop because cinnamon is so bad.
>>107079164I agree but windows 11 is just too shitty now.
>>107079585I can sign under this post. I bought a new (older model) laptop recently and wanted to install Fedora+Xfce. Some "bwrap" process raped my CPU on fresh install and dnfdragora never even loaded because stuck on package caching forever at 100 % CPU. Another try was openSUSE Leap with Xfce. Installed fine, but didn't even let me log in. I thought there is something bad with my keyboard and type password wrong, but no, it tried to start "xfwm4 --wayland" and logs were full of "wayland session failed". Last try was Debian13+Xfce, which felt like classic Linux right from the installation process. And guess what, it works pretty good.Looks like Linux desktops are slowly getting abandoned like all the good thing we had in the past.
>>107079709Dnfdragora also failed to ever load for me. It proves it's just some shit cobbled together by geeks that something completely non-functional is actually in the system. i moved all my "important" computer uses, mobile banking, work stuff, actual productivity, over to a new macbookand i am not a mac user, my only experience with macs before this was briefly using a 2014 mbp as a secondary machine, and using them in school as a kid like 15-20 years agoit has done all the things i wanted the device to do, it doesnt bother me, i like it, but this isnt a a thread to shill macbooks, not todayfor the windows 10 machine i refuse to upgrade to 11 because i hate 11, its too far into the realm of losing user control, windows 10 is pretty bad with that already but 11 is even worseits bloated as shit, slow, unreliable and theres way too many "i want to turn this off" situations where i find out "youre literally not allowed to turn this off" is the solutionso with that my windows 10 machine is just going to stay a windows 10 machine until its literally impossible to launch steam on it anymore, i already reinstalled 10 on there, to wipe every last bit of data off the machine that wasnt steam, and game related, its a games console nowand when steam stops getting updates on 10 ill run it til it stops working too, and when steam outright will not work on 10 ill just take the machine offline and play all my games offlinelike you would an old games console, one day the xbox 360 stopped being usable the same way it once was, and people just continued to play their singleplayer titles without the xbox connected to the internet, my pc will be the sameid skip the linux part unless you want to have one machine do both things, your important stuff and your games, if you can do seperate devices by all means just continue with a gaming box and get a mac for modern uses

Linux was always designed to be a terminal centric OS. A normal person would just use the latest version of debian with flatpaks for steam and heroic gaming and learn the terminal.GUI apps will exist for gaming, videos and browsing like steam, heroic and parole/celluloid but linux's configuration and installation of packages will always be terminal based. You can install distros like Linux Mint or MX linux but then you have to deal with their customization. Linux Mint and MX linux provide GUI tools but they are just frontends for the terminals.System config will always be terminal based. If you learn how the linux filesystem is structured and how linux works its better than windows. If you want a windows friendly linux distro just stick with mint but be warned you will be subject to their retarded changes like themes or their forced desktops they want you to use like cinnamon.
