we say color instead of colour here

What model is this big reader at bottom?
>>
it's just awful stuff
the colour displays are terrible
I don't know how they can even sell them they aren't accurate at all
after 10 years the refresh rates are still total trash
>>
>>107077420
Plenty good enough for reading books. If your issue is with your chinese comics then you should either grow up or use something else.

>Refresh rates are still trash

Isn't this the point with e-ink? That's how it uses so little battery compared to a tablet screen for example. Because it doesn't refresh unless it needs to.

give it 18 months and it'll be a viable technology
>>
>>107078135
you could still have good refresh rates without constant refreshing
it has improved quite a bit in the newer models at least

I don't have this problem on my 11" ONN brand tablet from Walmart.
Quit being such a picky nigger faggot.
I swear you people are worse than audiophiles when it comes to this kind of shit.

I bought one recently for my mom and I couldn't understand how even the cheap options were so expensive even to this date considering how long it has been since the tech exists

What's the cheap non-e-ink competition for the Note Max and Tab XC? The OLED tablets are even more expensive.

>>107078135
>>107078236
New monitors manage 60Hz.

>>107077968
Colour accuracy isn't everything.
>>
The real downside is that it doesn't have the pleasant yellowing of the paper version.

when do we get OLED E-INK

I really liked Kindle v1. Was pleasant, no backlighting or anything.

>poor resolution
It's already plenty.
>brightness

Not a problem on my Kobo Clara HD running Koreader.
>patents expired
Thank fuck for that. Can't wait for something like the Boox Palma 2 that runs Linux, isn't overpriced and doesn't lack quality control. I want to keep the Kobo for home and a phone size one for outside, mainly work.

I have an early one and it looks like a fucking fax machine from the 80s.

both of those already look good enough for me and they probably look even better in person. all displays look bad in photos, even oleds.

>Is that electronic device perhaps emitting LIGHT????
>oh no this LIGHT that is far weaker than reflected sunlight hit my eyes specifically designed to safely absorb LIGHT!!!
>how could this happen to ME???
>I can't even see anymore from reading 5 seconds off the screen, never mind office workers spend 8 hours a day staring at the same screens without any fancy $2000 eink tech and are still fine after 40 years
>>
A reason why this isn't a bigger industry is because eople who read books are smart so they don't buy stuff unless they need to and they don't buy junk that breaks, so everyone has had their same reader since 2018 or earlier.
>>
>>107079758
Good luck seeing your LCD in all the reflected sunlight.

E-ink isn't a technology it's a rent seeking patent troll.

I like my Inkpad 4, it could be a tad bit bigger for certain Manga but it was the best compromise when it comes to also reading books and taking it places, too

Fuck off with your amerilard abomination.

Most people speak more than one language fluently. Most Americans can’t even speak one.

Why is it so different? It seems like the conversation is completely different. The content is similar, but the vibe is worlds apart

This, what makes it nice is not having any backlight and lighting it from a bedside lamp.
Hopefully colours will improve over time and refresh rates are getting there. I think e-paper could be a great thing for more pleasant experiences with computers.
>>
>>107077438
So troue
>>
>>107079847
buying like 10 manga books costs like $70. And it should last a few days.
non-used decent contrast and pixel dense displays start at like $200 and 6"
8" could be $300-400, and 13" would be $600.
But, if you actually read black and white mangas a lot, yeah, the $600 eink display would easily pay itself off.
But just pirating your mangas and reading it off an IPS display would also pay itself off. You could even buy a OLED display if you really want to read it in the dark and maybe it has color (doujins). But you can't read it in your bed which is probably the point, and pretty much every e-ink display as a backlight.

>>

>>
>>107083701
>and pretty much every e-ink display as a backlight.
Not in the 10" and 13" b&w category. The only devices with front light and 300ppi are the Kindle Scribe and the various Kaleido 3 offerings.
I'd average around 2 hours for a volume so 10 might take a week to complete. A Japanese volume is about $5 but shipping more than doubles that. American versions are even more expensive in print. $7 per volume is more in line with European prices.
